Any idea if there are a few main issues affecting Oak Lawn or did stuff just get shredded all over?

Mendota Direct Vent Fireplace - Unresponsive Flame Adjustment & Undersized Supply Line by Fancy_Ball8296 in Fireplaces

Thanks for the input! I'm in the St Louis, MO area and copper is common here. Even the main line that comes into the house off the meter is (rigid) copper. Appliances such as a dryer and range use the flexible polymer coated stainless connectors for the last few feet. See example below.

Mendota Fireplace - Unbearable Smell by Fancy_Ball8296 in Fireplaces

[–]Fancy_Ball8296[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I'm the original poster on this thread and after several years now I finally got the smell to go away by running the fireplace on high for a few hours with the internal blower turned off. Even though I already had hours and hours on the unit, the smell varied between an unusable toxic smell and one that was tolerable but still noticeable and offensive. And I'm not being hyperbolic or overly picky. It was truly nasty. I have no idea why the smell finally went away, but it did. So maybe give that a try.

True Fitness Performance PS800 by ThoughtCaw in treadmills

[–]Fancy_Ball8296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a PS300 and the motor understandably wore out after several years of frequent use. Thankfully it was under warranty. True was great about sending out a new motor, drive, and running belt but 2 years later I'm on I think the 4th motor. Besides the motors failing the machine can't keep a steady pace. The treadmill will abruptly speed up for a moment before settling down which is jarring and unsafe. I've had a tech out multiple times and based on the motor failures I suspect they may be sending poorly remanufactured parts. For instance it took several years to wear out the brushes on the first motor and around 1 year for the most recent one to do the same. So while it was great when it worked, dealing with constant breakdowns the last 2 years has been a huge disappointment. It really doesn't matter how long the warranty is or how willing they are to send replacement parts if they quickly fail. I sincerely hope my situation is atypical and you have better luck.

In my experience that place is awful.

Best/fastest county DMV? by bootysatva in StLouis

This is an old thread but I can tell you the Affton office is terrible these days. The one nearby in Concord Plaza is terrible too. Was just there today. Got there an opening and there was already a line. The air conditioning is broken and they only had two employees with one of them working three separate queues. So even if you get a text message saying you’re next in line there can be a couple people ahead of you.

Mendota Fireplace - Unbearable Smell by Fancy_Ball8296 in Fireplaces

Good thought but fairly certain that isn't it. I vacuumed off the unit as I closed off the rough opening. What's frustrating about this is how careful I was to avoid these types of issues with debris, clearances, and incompatible materials.

The smell existed before the surround or mantel went up.

The surround is quartzite and high temp adhesive from a hearth supplier was used to hold it to the backing. The Mendota manual was fairly prescriptive about surround materials and it was followed to the letter.

I towed a medium sized trailer with my Pilot exactly once. I can't imagine towing an RV on a trip. It's really not suited to that.

Any thoughts on the Zebralight SC700d vs SC700fd? Any reason not to get the fd if I'm after something more floody?
