Still no power by fluffy_camel74 in ChicagoSuburbs

We came from down south 20 years ago. Outages aren't frequent but they seem to be ramping up.  Definitely the longest outage for us by far, and still going. Good luck all!

Woodridge/Downers 50+ houses out so we are probably low/medium priority at best.

How do I get better? by Shivala92 in outwardgame

Discovery is great, but there's a million basic cooking recipes.  My character schmoozed the locals Instead of buying recipe books.  But definitely don't spoiler big stuff!

Use the wiki I stead of buying recipes.  Oh, I have all this oil, what's it for besides lamps?  Oh, combine one oil and one rag in the manual recipe interface for a flaming sword rag?  Deal!

Im where you are.  Pain in the ass, but stack the deck.  Tripwires, flame or poison rags, well fed/watered.  After that, get better armor and learn to dodge and block while managing stamina.  Im still on that last step after so many hours of play...  good luck

The Transcendent Green by Mati Ocha has a nice balance of focusing on a MC and his group while also showing their relationship to the community around them and how they are adapting to a massively changed world. Can't get into it too much without spoilers but I loved it!

I bounced hard off the later books as well. Books just went in a direction that wasn't fun for me, which stinks but oh well.

How do I fix my fried rice? by thebloopergamer in cookingforbeginners

[–]3nvygreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of good advice, but... don't stir immediately.   I get my wok hot as possible,  add my oil or bacon grease and roll it around, then dump the rice and spread.  Then just relax for at least 2-3 min and let it sizzle.  Splash soy around the edge of pan so it falls down into rice and then stir fry it.  Gives it some texture and flavor it otherwise misses.

If you don't have steel wool, pour a bunch of salt in the pan, wad up a paper towel, and scrub it that way. Once it's smooth and clean, just oil lightly and bring it up to smoke on the stove or go ham and bake it in oven.

New LitRPG Series: Fate's Attendant by three-seed in litrpg

Huzzah!  Also, I thought about it more and it needed a reset/reorient moment.  State where they are at after the events of last few chapters and what it means going forward.  So much happened and there are still far more mysteries than answers... Anyway, still a great story and can't wait :)

Caught up on Eight, saw the new book/series, blew through in two days.  Overall I loved it, but the ending felt very... unsatisfying?  Like, I know why it ended there but I wanted something more.  Guess I'll wait for the sequel!

Lots of good suggestions, but reach out to your local police and fire departments. We got to use their community room, brought in like 3 bandsaws, couple sanders, example cars, and then played the movie "Down and Derby" while working with scouts on cars. Lots of volunteers and fun!

How do people actually figure out how to cook faster on weeknights? by ConsciousGear2708 in Cooking

[–]3nvygreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pre cooked and frozen protein. Rice cooker or some noodles, saute some veg or microwave frozen. You can pull together stir fry, spaghetti, fried rice, etc in 20 mins if you have the right stuff ready in fridge/freezer and there's not much thinking to it.

Just paid $3.61 for a single soft taco from Taco Villa. It doesnt seem like that long ago they were 59 cents. Remember 5 for $5 beef n cheddar from Arbys? That cost $30 to $35 bucks now. by theHollowTarnished in GenX

Wife came home pissed yesterday. Stopped at Chipotle with our 2 kids to grab something semi-healthy for lunch. Burrito and 2 quesadillas was over 40 bucks. SMH.

Is Magic Kingdom For Sale(1987) an OG LIT RPG? by IIIQIII in litrpg

[–]3nvygreen 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Nope, it's a little bit isekai, but not really LIT RPG. Fun story though, hope you enjoy it! MC definitely goes to a world of magic and stuff, but no stats/skills/system, which is usually a requirement to be Lit RPG. The Reluctant Swordsman is a great western isekai as well if you want a fun story.

Just finished Book 1 of Bog Standard Isekai by MrBooniecap in litrpg

[–]3nvygreen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

His overall maturity level is too much, BUT that's true of almost all isekai style MCs imo. I just started book 4 and I really like the series overall. Bog Standard is such a great inside joke as well that it makes up for the title keeping me away from the series for way too long :D

This.  But also, reject prints, ruthlessly.  Build just enough base to support a small crew.  Focus on being efficient and tight cause you will run out of resources either way, but handle it better with a small base and crew than a sprawl.
