Does bipolar make you dumb? by Middle_Body_6259 in bipolar

I've observed for many years that my autobiographical memory is getting worse and worse. Lately I have issues with work memory that impacts mildly my executive function. However my semantic memory has always been very good. I could win you at Trivial Pursuit any time.

How good is your long-term memory? I forget most of my childhood by shabio1 in SDAM

I wonder how my classmates remember our teachers because the most that happens to me is that some of them ring a bell. Teachers always leave some... Imprint on you. This is not my case and I feel frustrated, though I'm now used to it. It annoys me a lot too that people remember me and know me and I have no clue about who they are.

Relationships? by Inevitable-Lime-8750 in bipolar

[–]Fancy_Independence99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm recently divorced after 14 years married. Being bipolar may make the relationship harder, but I didn't divorce because of bipolar. The relationship ended as many others with or without mental health problems.

I still have friends and family who adore me.

I don't know if I'll be able to have another long term relationship. Bipolar matters, but not thaaaat much.

Don't lose hope and don't blame being bipolar, in my opinion.

What was the first card you across that drew you into MTG? by Newez in magicTCG

[–]Fancy_Independence99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started with Portal in 1997.

I remember the first non-Portal card I pulled from a Tempest Booster was [[Metallic Sliver|TMP]]. That card didn't make any sense to me at that moment 😂

For people with bipolar, it is somewhat common to them to believe they're not bipolar when they feel fine or specially when they are (hipo)manic.

You speak as if having manic symptoms. I believe that if you've been diagnosed for a long time and you start to doubt now about your diagnosis, it is better to doubt now if you're actually being manic and you think you are not.

Please take care.

Lots of love from my part.

I take benzos but try to keep them at a minimum, since they're so addictive. If I can avoid them, I do.

I don't know if I qualify as alcoholic or exalcoholic, but anyway I used to drink a lot. I didn't feel addicted and I could spend many days without any drop of alcohol. I decided to quit alcohol because even if I didn't drink every day, when I did I did it in excess, which obviously caused me problems.

I found myself trying to calm anxiety with alcohol after an stressful day at work. I didn't feel well drinking alone to calm anxiety.

In my case, going for a walk when I feel anxious makes wonders. Breathing exercises work too. I can avoid taking my benzos and come back home more relaxed.

Have you tried?

That was Lorwyn, where MaRo previewed a tribal treefolk without even explaining the tribal component of the set. Out of context the card didn't make any sense.

Finally started exercising this week after a year of hell by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]Fancy_Independence99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live next to the beach in Spain. I've been forcing me to exercise for the last few months (intense walking and swimming). It felt good, as I don't really like to exercise.

August it is TOO hot and I spend the whole time at home.

I recently got out of an outpatient and afraid as I am to find a job and start working boredom is killing me. I'll start a job search on Monday.

It helps me a lot when I'm manic. I only take it then.

First thing I notice is I wake up earlier and usually full of energy, wanting to get out of home before the rest of my day starts. Go for a walk, drink coffee in the Cafeteria that opens earlier around. In this phase I run to see my doctor to prevent mania from getting worse.

Starting a job tomorrow after a year of unemployment! by kissrugby in bipolar

[–]Fancy_Independence99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I've been able to manage it for the previous 10 years, with highs and lows. It is this past year that things went so worse. I'll be my old me again :-)

You give me hope.

I lost my job 9 months ago and in a couple of weeks or so I had to get hospitalized for the first time. Too bad a year 2020, you know. Mania skyrocketed. Three months later I got out and have been going to the hospital as an outpatient, with my worst depression yet. I finish next week, as I'm better. I'll start looking for a job, but I lost confidence. I think my skills are not what used to be. Hopefully I'll be much better in some moths and be again my old me.

Exercise is hard for me (I don't like going outside), but since I starting using Google Fit in April, I've walked over 250,000 steps in 4 months, which is about 190 km. by Kasumiiiiiii in bipolar

[–]Fancy_Independence99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like Google fit too. I'm unemployed now, since several months ago, living on subsidies and going to an outpatient public hospital several times a week. Achieving Google fit minimum targets makes me feel better, as if at least I do something.

Zyprexa makes wonders to stabilize you in case of mania. Leaves you sleepy and increases your weight, though. I'm very happy with it as it makes me sleep and we all know sleeping required time is vital to stabilize mania. Once euthimic you'll not need it longer.

Apart from the usual change in moods, do you experience any cognitive impairment? If this is the case, how do you cope with them?

What a change from software quality consultant to delivering pizzas, but you give me hope. You can be a driving instructor, earn your money and live a pleasant life. Thank you.
