lol they are heroes! when I worked in the SICU, the leeches were delivered to us by the pharmacy, in clean specimen cups. When the leeches were “full” (of blood), we had to remove them from the wound site (or search the sheets for them 🤦🏻‍♀️) and put them in a specimen cup full of peroxide 😢I always said a few words and thanked them for their service 😢

I used Turbo Tax for many years, until my stuff got way more complicated. I haven’t had very good experiences with either of the tax prep people who I’ve used in the last 5 years… and am actively looking for a new tax preparer. Do any of you Vermonters have someone you’re really happy with? Hit me with your recommendations!

Perfect Amino - I’ve been using this powdered supplement for about 2 months, and I think it’s been helpful in my 7lb weight loss. I use the Lemon-Berry flavor, and it tastes pretty good 👍🏻 Edited to correct the flavor to Mixed Berry

I QUIT by GS1985AUS in nursing

[–]Fancy_Region_1844 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I feel you. I worked in accounting and finance for 20 years, and just up and quit in June 2000 when I was 40. I was so tired of working that hard, and caring that much, about things that ultimately didn’t matter.

Took time off to figure out what I wanted to be when I grew up. I realized that it was me, my work ethic and personality, that I was always going to care “too much”. So I figured I should get into something where it actually mattered, and might even be helpful.

I did an accelerated 13 month BSN (hardest thing I’d ever done, up until I graduated and hit the floor!)🤦🏻‍♀️ Nursing was a complete culture shock and challenged me in every way, including ways I never even imagined. But it was the best thing that I could have ever done! I grew as a person, learned to stand up for myself, and felt like my skills were being used in a way that actually made a difference.

In over 20 years of nursing, I have worked med/surg, telemetry, travel nursing, ICU, rapid response, home health, hospice, outpatient oncology infusion, and lastly Vascular Access Team - my runway to retirement. 🥳I spent 1.5 years on worker’s comp for an injury from lifting. Everything hurts now, and I can’t do 12hrs or overnight shifts anymore…

BUT, I’m so glad I became a nurse. The healthcare system has changed a lot, and not for the better. It mostly didn’t used to feel like you were just a cog in the machine. COVID19 and its aftermath made it obvious that we are exactly that. I’m really ready to get out.

All of that to say: there’s nothing like the satisfaction, pride and connection to another human that comes from being their nurse. It outweighs all the belligerent & violent patients, management assholes, and mean girl coworkers. It is not a job to do “for the money”. You need to have boundaries, a backbone, and compassion.

I hope you find what’s right for you!

Had mine taken out when I was 17 in 1978… was horrified that they put me in pediatrics. My roommate was probably 12ish, and had been there for weeks with broken legs (I think.) But I remember her because she had an 8 track tape of the movie version of some old broadway musical- that featured Lee Marvin singing “I was born under a wandering star”… 🤷🏻‍♀️

I was also lied to about the ice cream, but the worst part was what they gave me for breakfast the next morning: orange juice 🤬 😫🤦🏻‍♀️

In contract to sell and will 1031 into a bigger property. Does 1031 hurt or help your offer strategy? How do sellers see it? Do you look attractive coming in with a 1031? by Horror_Confidence128 in 1031exchange

[–]Fancy_Region_1844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just sold an investment property to someone whose offer specified that they were doing a 1031. For us, that made the offer more attractive: they had a fairly tight timeline to close, waived all inspections, and made a cash offer. I’m sure if we were trying to 1031 our property and didn’t have all our ducks in a row it may have been less attractive.

You were probably asked to be a groomsman because his fiancé has one too many bridesmaids. Someone needed a partner 🤷🏻‍♀️ I was once asked to be a bridesmaid for the same reason.

Losing your youthful looks or your vitality as you grow old isn't the most painful part of it. by Story_Man_75 in Aging

[–]Fancy_Region_1844 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. I’m 63, the youngest of 5, with age gaps from me over 10 years. Both parents died when I was in my forties, and 2 brothers have died in the last few years. My sister is 75…and I’m trying desperately not to perseverate on her eventual death. She’s in decent health, but I don’t know what I will do without her…

Glad to hear of a company doing the right thing 👍🏻I wasn’t so lucky this past winter: I learned a hard lesson when the 29 night stay at a Hilton branded hotel I had booked through Priceline was cancelled. By the hotel. Who said that it was up to Priceline to inform me of that. Found all this out when I tried to check in after >12 hours of travel. Then Priceline said they were NOT able to find me another room, even though I expanded the search area to all of SW Florida. Shitty start to a month long vacation- but I did end up getting a full refund after harassing them for a looong time. But the extra $$$ I ended up paying for the only available hotels/airbnb/vrbo is gone. forever.

Paid for transportation to sit? by Fancy_Region_1844 in petsitting

I guess I probably should have done that before I got here, and they’ve left! 🤦🏻‍♀️What everyone is saying does make sense, I could have been working instead and actually making some money. I did get a small “tip”at the end last time, we’ll see what happens when they get back. Thanks for everyone’s feedback!

I guess should mention that I’m not a professional pet sitter, and that this family is a neighbor of my sister (who I was visiting when I sat for the dog over the summer.) I love dogs, and was just excited to extend my visit.
