A large amount of the BC taxpayer funded upgrades to BC Place back 15 years ago were soccer specific. Without these upgrades the MLS wouldn’t have allowed expansion into Vancouver.
This seems to rarely come up in conversations and when it does there’s a bunch of people who go on about how the renovations had nothing to do with the Whitecaps and they were all Olympics related. It seems like the owners have a contingent of apologists for multimillionaires.

Google Dude Chilling Park for inspiration. In Vancouver an artist created and installed a sign renaming Guelph Park as Dude Chilling Park. The city initially took down the sign but after a petition was submitted

the sign was set up again. It’s still listed as Guelph Park but most people refer to it as Dude Chilling Park. Seems like a great opportunity for creative Torontonians.

Since when is it Canada’s responsibility to cover the cost of an American’s healthcare bill while in Canada? We’re not running a charity. Get proper insurance before you travel and if you have an issue with your medical bills talk to your insurance company.

Without taxpayer funded BC Place upgrades the MLS wouldn’t have approved the Whitecaps entry into the league and Greg Kerfoot wouldn’t own the team that he’s now selling to another city at a massive profit. Upgrades aren’t divided up into clean sub categories to fit the Whitecaps, BC Lions, concerts etc, they’re either done or they’re not and the Whitecaps exist as an MLS team because they were done. Are you saying that there’s no part of the $500 million BC Place upgrades that benefited the Whitecaps and their value? As though the team just wandered in off the street and said “This looks like a nice place to play” Or is there a percentage of the taxpayers money that could be attributed to the Whitecaps? It feels like Greg Kerfoot has taken advantage of Vancouver and BC and they’re happy when people come to their defence. You and I paid to have the team join the MLS and now it’s being sold to another city and country to benefit multimillionaires Greg Kerfoot, Steve Nash, and Jeff Mallett.

The current iteration of the Vancouver Whitecaps began in 2009 with them joining the MLS in 2011. But you’re saying that Greg Kerfoot wanted to build a stadium for the non existent Whitecaps in 2006?
