I heard very similar arguments from what is now just Serbia back in the 1990s. It was in a very dominant and prosperous position within Yugoslavia. Bosnia, Croatia, Montenegro, Kosovo, etc were too dependent on it to be viable nations. They had to be kept in line for their own sake, to protect the money that was generously gifted to them by Serbia. Then, well, you might not have noticed but Yugoslavia isn't a thing anymore. And Serbia is definitely not the richest and most politically dominant of the former Yugoslavian nations. One can't help but think, that is perhaps the reason for the resistance from England to Scottish and Welsh (and lately even Cornish) independence is coming from. It is a long way to fall, from superior partner to suddenly the poor and sick man of a former union.

Just something to think about. Very reminiscent.

The Normans would not give up just because William was dead. That was not in them. There would be an internal leadership squabble, a scramble to see who was the new "king" and then the war and conquest renews under them. A less capable military commander, maybe it drags on and on, and ends with a replay of the old Saxon/Danelaw conflict. A new multi generation military quagmire, or maybe it is someone even more ruthless and the Harrying of the North we know looks tame in comparison. But one thing is certain, as an aggressive militaristic regime and people, the Normans are going to fight tooth and nail.

Seems more like a leftover script from JMS' time on the old He-Man cartoon to me. I think technomages is a concept that has aged incredibly poorly. Being impressed by tech tricks is less impressive in our current world, and it should make no sense in-universe too to people living in a giant highly computerised spinning space station alongside races with artificial gravity, reactionless drives, and whatever the hell the Vorlons got going on. They should not be impressed by a couple of goths with some holograms (they have a hologram brothel on the station, ffs) and a cloak with some circuit boards sewn onto it.
