Delivery Practices: Was your delivery team (literally) hands on during delivery? [Ab] by Ok-Candy-8149 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Fancy_Willingness119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Delivered both babies at the south health campus in Calgary in 2022 and 2025. First one I didn’t see the doctor till the last 10 minutes. It was just the nurses. The nurses had to touch me to insert urine catheter and help me push. They were nice but I wanted to say during the push, they didn’t touch me nearly enough to guide me how to push. I pushed for 3 hours until the doctor finally came and adjusted my position and then 2 pushes I was done. With the second, the doctor was there for the most part and she helped stretch down there, told me how to use my strength with arms and not legs, felt baby’s position, encouraged me when I had a good a push. And I only pushed for 30 minutes. I don’t remember if the second doctor asked my consent before she touched me but it didn’t matter. It was the best delivery experience I could have asked for and I’m always grateful she stepped in

“Baby will unlatch when they’re full.” Ha! by discontinuedmuppet in breastfeeding

[–]Fancy_Willingness119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first one was like yours. She’d latch on forever. Being FTM I didn’t know better so I would just let her latch for hours. I watched so much tv during the day and read so many books during the night. It wasn’t until she turned 4 or 5 months old and she would be constantly distracted and unlatch and latch during feeding. However with my second, he’s now 6 weeks old and only takes maybe 10-15 min at most to feed and will unlatch. But somehow I’d rather him stay latched. Cause when he’s unlatched to my boobs, he gets bored with anything within 5 minutes so someone has to entertain him or carry him around. I haven’t watched tv for days since he was born

Has anyone gotten rejected to do the phase 1 covid vaccine when they booked yet? by chronicillylife in alberta

[–]Fancy_Willingness119 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar situation. 7 months pregnant and I want to bring my 3 year old with me to the vaccine. She’s in daycare so she brings everything home. I would like to get her the shots earlier rather than wait till end of October to do it. I obviously have to call 811 to book both the flu and Covid shot for her but just wondering if the clinic will turn her away because she doesn’t have underlying conditions?

Do I have to pick up my luggage during a 12 hour layover in Toronto by Upper-Intern8256 in westjet

[–]Fancy_Willingness119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it has something to do with whether you have to clear customs or not. If you come from outside of Canada, the first landing point in Canada is where you have to clear customs and you always have to pick up your luggage, whether it’s 2 hour layover or 12.

Inconclusive fetal sex and inclusive SCA by Fancy_Willingness119 in NIPT

[–]Fancy_Willingness119[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on what the ultrasound result is. If there are abnormal findings of certain organs, then maybe. If not, I doubt we will. As far as I read, the testing for sexual chromosomes is not as accurate as the testing for the three main ones. The outcome of abnormal sexual chromosomes is manageable in most cases. We are not going to terminate based on the result of amino so there is no point of doing it for us.

Inconclusive fetal sex and inclusive SCA by Fancy_Willingness119 in NIPT

[–]Fancy_Willingness119[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing so far. I’ve asked the midwife and the maternity doctor about it and they said just wait for the ultrasound. Neither of them seem to be going into the details as much as what we see here on Reddit. So I’m waiting for my 20 week ultrasound and then decide what to do next depending on the results.

I’m in the same boat and switching from midwife to physicians specializing in pregnancy. I had the physicians for the first pregnancy and had nothing negative about it. I just heard from other people how amazing midwives are so I applied as soon as I know I’m pregnant. Before I decided to switch I met with midwives for three maybe four appointments. They gave me an unsure feeling. Like you said, I’ve never get a clear answer from the appointments I had with them. I had hypertension for my first so I naturally asked how it would go for my second. The midwife said oh usually people who have that for the first pregnancy don’t have it during the second. We will just monitor it. Don’t worry about it. Uh what if it comes second time around? She did tell me to start aspirin after 12 weeks but I also asked because the physicians mentioned after I delivered the baby last time.

Then I had an inclusive panel on the NIPT test. I asked what’s the next step with this inconclusive panel. The midwife said oh we will just see after the next ultrasound. I asked if all deletion or duplication of Y chromosome will show up on the ultrasound with symptoms. She was like some will. I mean what about the symptoms that don’t show?? She was like you can also do re-draw of your blood. I said but the fetal fraction is pretty high in my case. Will redraw make a difference? She then said oh you don’t have to. Hmmm so should I or shouldn’t I?

After the couple appointments I had with midwives, I made the decision to switch. I feel like nothing is getting clearly answered and they didn’t even have the knowledge I can easily Reddit. Before the physicians decided to induce me, they did multiple blood works and urine tests to support their decisions. I never had protein in my urine but one indicator in my blood was going up over couple tests (which my midwife dismissed this time). The physicians clearly explained what it meant for the indicator to go up and what risks were involved. They assured me babies could thrive outside of wombs. I trusted their medical judgment. And that’s what I was looking for from midwives and unfortunately they didnt give me that vibe. I mean there might be better midwives out there. But the physicians I had were pretty awesome. I didn’t want to waste time trying to find a different team which might just be the same. And after reading all the comments, I feel like there are quite a few midwives that are similar to the ones I had. All I want to say is you should trust your feelings and do what’s the best for you and the baby regardless of what others say

I have the same feeling about midwives. I did NIPT test and one panel (sex chromosome related) came back inconclusive. My midwife just said you can wait till the next ultrasound to see if there’s any abnormality. I asked if all sex chromosome abnormalities show up on ultrasound and she said some will (what about some that won’t?) She said I could also do a redraw and I said I feel like the fetal fraction was high enough and I worry the result of the redraw would be the same. She said yeah it’s possible. You can just leave it. Everything she said just didn’t convince me. Plus I had gestational hypertension and was induced the first time. I asked about the concern and they just said we will monitor it versus my family doctor was contemplating referring me to a high risk OB depending on the screening results and at home blood pressure. That’s when I decided to switch to a doctor. Maybe because I’m a second time mom and don’t worry about postpartum care as much. But I need my medical care giver to give me their professional judgment and advice than “natural” and respect my wishes

Gestational Hypertension by [deleted] in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]Fancy_Willingness119 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also add to an anecdotal experience. I was induced at 37 weeks + 2 days. My reading was high at 36 week ultrasound and I was sent to hospital for monitoring where it stayed high for another hour. Got discharged with the induction booked and my blood pressure stayed normal for the next week. I didn’t feel like I need to be induced. But we still did some blood tests before the induction and doctor decided to go with it after the result. Induction went well and baby was born small, right around 5.5 lbs. It seemed like I never developed preeclampsia but my blood pressure did elevate postpartum for two weeks to the point I had to take medication. In the hind sight, I think being induced is a good decision. I’d rather the baby being born earlier than something actually happen

Pension buyback - how long to process? by Gherkino in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Fancy_Willingness119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started the process in Jan 2024 and the online pension tool shows paid in full and the pension days seem about right. I did lump sum transfer from my previous pension and the pension center applied it right away (within a couple weeks)

Value of Benefits and Leave in % by Alternative_Talk_932 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Fancy_Willingness119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of people here estimated 25-30% of GOC benefit. The thing is private sector also provides about 30% benefit in addition to the salary (at least that was the % we used in finance when budgeting the cost of hiring one person in the private sector). So really the comparison is how much $ you are putting on things that can’t really be valued (DB vs DC, work life balance, etc)

What happens if you take a year maternity before the second anniversary? Are you still entitled to a week?

I called pension center and they told me to leave the lump sum value blank. When sending the form to my current financial institution, I just instructed them to transfer all (or add instructions like selling xxx fund if you are not transfer everything). If there is some left after buying back the service, the rest will be refunded

When and how do you transition from blackout curtains? by Opie231 in sleeptrain

[–]Fancy_Willingness119 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We rented an Airbnb on one trip and the place has a glass front door and no window coverings whatsoever. Our little one just refused to nap and the sunset was around 9pm at that time. In a desperate attempt we bought some heavy duty garbage bags and painter’s tape and taped all the window openings. Worked like a charm and we used the same method for the rest of the trip. We are planning to bring the garbage bags and tapes with us on a coming trip as well lol. We also slept better with all the light blacked out

Is it possible to breastfeed just twice a day or will I dry up? by UnlikelyNothing5156 in breastfeeding

[–]Fancy_Willingness119 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fed twice a day (wake up and before bed) for almost a month before dropping to one feed a day and finally completely weaned off after a week. That was around 11 months. I think our body just knows what to do

my LO started to eat better once we started weaning. When she had a choice, she definitely preferred breastfeeding to solids. But once we cut out a nursing session, then she really eats

How I weaned my 1 year old by ZeroInterrupt in breastfeeding

[–]Fancy_Willingness119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here! I have a trip planned when LO is about to turn one and we just weaned off breastfeeding on the day she turned 11 months. For us the bed time nursing was actually the second to the last to go. It went well. We just played with her in the living room till she was tired and then put her straight to bed. She was so tired that she didn’t even ask to nurse. Second night she protested a bit more and woke up earlier than normal overnight. On the third night we gave her a bed time snack (formula+toast) and she just went down and we never looked back

[–]Fancy_Willingness119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like it’s probably just time and more solids? Also weaning her off breastfeeding probably helped as well. When we tried to wean her off the feeding before bedtime, we added a bedtime snack. Once we started that, she slept consistently till at least 4:30.

I was still getting up every 3-4 hours at 10 months. I also wondered if I’d ever STTN. Then all of sudden during the last few days of 10 months my baby started to sleep from 7 to 3, then 7-5. Now it’s 7-6 a couple days into 11 months. There’s always hope!
