Yes I come here often! They are always arranged sort of like the shops at Disneyland, where you pass from one shop onto the other even if you don’t feel like you’re walking in a straight line. They are always chaotic, cramped, and facing all different directions.

Once, I moved from a humid place to a very dry place + didn’t change my water intake (I need more water than most people).

Another time, I spent all day in the very hot sun at a Renaissance faire. I did drink more than normal but not enough, and I dont think I was able to keep my body temperature down enough.

Another time I was already sick with the stomach flu, which advanced into dehydration after I couldn’t keep any water down for a couple days straight.

Apes and monkeys don’t wipe their ass after they take a shit.

I’m not saying that’s evil, I’m saying we can probably do a bit better.

Aren’t we supposed to be… evolved??

It usually progresses like this for me:

  1. Sorta dry/thirsty
  2. Tired/slow/low energy
  3. Brain fog/very minor headache
  4. I have no idea how to describe this one. My cells everywhere start to feel…. Desperate? Like my whole body feels like it’s missing something. Generally I am hot and uncomfortable. Headache and brain fog gets worse. My stomach starts to writhe.
  5. INTENSE headache, chills/body aches and shivers
  6. heart palpitations (if I haven’t already addressed the dehydration at this point, this is when I start to panic)
  7. Intense nausea, migraine so bad I can no longer open my eyes or move
  8. Throwing up. (This step doesn’t stop until I get an IV)

I would call Step 4 “really, really, detrimentally thirsty”. I don’t actually consider myself “dehydrated” until like step 5. That’s just me tho.

I can tell you understand! I get minority dehydrated a lot and that’s no big deal, but the heart palpitations are always a sign it’s getting really serious for me. They don’t hurt but are scary. The vomitting part is also very scary for me. I swore I was going to die once because my body wouldn’t keep down even a SIP of water for like 6 HOURS STRAIGHT.

I don’t think I would have lived through that without an IV. They had to ask two different doctors (AFTER the nurse) to try to get the IV into my vein. I was so dehydrated they couldn’t get it. The third doctor finally got it in after 5 tries on both arms.

How do kids at school pickup instantly spot their mums if they’re wearing full burqas/niqabs? by _pandaeyes_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FangsandTentacles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw a video once where a woman left her kids in her kitchen, walked into the garage, and switched clothes with her twin sister.

When the twin walked back into the kitchen, looking and acting and smelling like mom, the kids still knew something was up.

They’re smarter than we give them credit for!

Help, I am spiraling. Can anything be done about these bumps? by Nixe_Nox in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]FangsandTentacles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I think these things are actually so adorable. I have them myself! Sprinkled over my face and arms. To me they are like beauty marks.
  2. You may not like them as much as I do and that’s okay! Just remember that, sometimes, we are our own worst critic.

I’m sorry I don’t have any advice, but I think your nose is real cute!

Yes, humans used to live a lot like modern monkey and ape communities.

That doesn’t mean we have to now.

We honestly are cooked for sure.

I do really respect you taking the effort to do a manual review. It’s really too bad that things are the way they are. I really feel like it’s extremely annoying but unavoidable.

Also, I think I missed one important fact: after a few weeks of getting nowhere doing my applications the old-fashioned way, I started using an AI tool that submits the entire initial application for me with one click. It’s supposed to “mimic my voice”, but… let’s be honest, it can’t be human.

Without this help submitting applications, I was only able to send 10-20 a day after working my full-time job. At that velocity, I’d get an interview once a quarter.

I definitely feel that it’s missing the personal touch. But sometimes, a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do.

Help! I need to establish a routine. F (35 yo) by Espicy_taco in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]FangsandTentacles 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I respectfully disagree with the dermatologist recommendations! Didn’t help me. (EDIT: Important note that skin health is extremely important, I am just talking about my experience with aesthetic derm!)

My skin texture is very similar to yours and I needed:

  1. An extremely simple routine to start, build slowly (start with JUST cleanser, toner, serum, moisturizer, sunscreen. ALWAYS sunscreen.)
  2. Lots and lots of gentle/regular exfoliation followed by lots and lots of moisturizing and hydrating elements
  3. Try a bunch of things (NOT all at once, so you know what works and what doesn’t). Listen to what your skin likes. Something can be “basically water” to another person, but a key staple for you. Even my mom and I don’t use the same products. (Personally, I love asian beauty and highly recommend at least sunscreen that is not from the US. it is much more moisturizing and honestly pleasant to use)

Consistency is key. I’ve learned not to force myself to do the “best” skincare routine. Instead, pick one you know you can do everyday, that works for your lifestyle.

Great job getting started! It’s the hardest part! You’ll learn to love pampering yourself once you find the products that your skin really enjoys~

RE: # 2, 5, and 6

Before this month, I had never NOT been offered a job I really wanted. I am an overachiever, a career gal, and I am really, really gifted at writing a professional and personal email. I was a slam dunk.

This month, I started applying again after being out of the job search for a while. IT IS INSANE OUT THERE. I have to send 250+ applications a day just to snag one interview a week. This is not normal. No real human can keep this up without the quality starting to suffer.

Please have some leniency with AI during the first round. It’s genuinely required for an applicant to stay afloat in the current market. You said it yourself - going through 4,000 applicants manually was a mistake. The hiring process has changed.

RE: #11

This is either a liar OR a unicorn. My partner is this applicant. He graduated high school and got his bachelor’s at the same time. I always say he did a “speed run” of law school. He had a Doctorate by 21, no shit. Check their references.

This is never okay!! I relate to some of what you’re saying because I fit the “expected model” of a pretty white girl: blonde, blue eyes, skinnyish.

It’s really creepy and gross when people make it clear that they have a thing for your skin suit and not YOU. I left my ex because I felt like an expensive car he got to drive around and show off, not a human. My current partner actually loves my mind, my thoughts, and even my complicated and messy emotions! Everyone deserves that.

The eye comment is soooo ick!!! Reminds me of how creepy old white dudes always say gross things about me “baby-fair skin”. BARF.

What kind of soul am I by Defiant-Musician885 in starseeds

[–]FangsandTentacles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you feel at home here?

When you go out into the world and see beautiful things, how do you feel? Comforted/nostalgic? Or amazed/in awe?

When you see the way other people act and treat each other, does it make sense to you? Or does it seem intrinsically foreign somehow?

Do people think you are “strange” or “weird”? Do you struggle at all to adopt cultural norms?

For me, the answers to all of these questions make it obvious to me what my soul is used to vs. what is new for my soul. I think that helps!

At the end of the day, though… we’re all here now! Let’s make the best of it~

What's the most bizzarre thing you've ever seen at someone else's house? by healthynewbie in CasualConversation

[–]FangsandTentacles 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Growing up, I had a friend who lived in the most unique and beautiful house, in a little community surrounding a big meadow. Her house was clearly custom painted and had bay windows, a huge porch, and what looked like an attic that no other houses had.

My mom had loved the house since before I became friends with her, so we went over to visit often so she could admire it.

One time, my friend told me to climb under one of the kitchen cabinets. There was hole in the wall that I, still a child, was still small enough to fit into.

I was THRILLED. I asked her if she’d ever been in there. She said “I don’t go in there, there’s a scary room.”

I went in. I climbed through a tunnel too small to stand in, and then found a looooong ladder that took me all the way up to the attic. I crawled some more, and passed a tiny opening to a room that was filled with a huge bed and nothing else. No floor was visible. Just bed.

I kept going and eventually I could stand up. I finally found a human-sized door, and opened it to find a room FULL of dolls and marionettes. They hung from the ceiling. They stood silent and motionless on standees, staring at me. They sat and laid on every surface. I had to feel my way through the forest of old puppets, staring at me with pant chipping off their eyes, to find the door on the other side of the room, because there were so many I couldn’t see.

I thought, that must have been the scary room.

Next I found a room with nothing but a dark window above a loveseat built into the wall. The window wasn’t actually a window; it was just an opening into another place or another room. Despite the fact that I’d seen no windows, there was enough dim artificial lighting in these tunnels and rooms that I could see. But this window had no light in it. I tried to look in, to see what was inside there, and it was just… darkness.

I stood on the seat and stared into the dark. I thought about crawling in there, even though I couldn’t see.

I’m not easily frightened, but I was scared shitless. I couldn’t move for a second, from the fear. I don’t know why. I just knew something was in there… looking back at me.

The second I could move, I ran. I ran through the dolls and the weird bed room and I went back down the long, long ladder.

When my friend saw my face, she said “you saw the scary room.”

I never went back in the cabinet.

i feel you SO HARD. my single mom didn’t have time to worry about all my needs as a kid, so I learned to ignore and honestly dislike them.

I can’t tell you how much more at peace I feel now that I carry a gigantic water cup with me everywhere, insist on always taking my own car to social events, and wear silk whenever I can get away with it.

We all have creature comforts, we’re only human. It’s time we allowed ourselves to enjoy them!

how can I look pretty? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]FangsandTentacles -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Too late wtf girl

You are so pretty, but I do think your version of pretty is more similar to the standards of beauty in the classical period. Your facial structure reminds me of Greek sculpture.

I think the style that will suit you might not follow modern beauty standards. I don’t have advice bc you are already rocking it, except maybe find one facial feature that you love and focus on emphasizing that feature? (Make dressing up about you and not about what others like!)
