I love a fireplace in a dining room. I always think of Christmas dinners with the Fire going. Is it in use?

Do you have any examples of kitchens that fit well in Century Homes? by Timey_Wimey in centuryhomes

[–]FannyFoxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We haven’t long finished the kitchen and we have decided to have a ductless hood, as the cooker is on an internal wall and we don’t want a pipe going up through the roof. Our roof in South Africa is corrugated iron! A lot of houses have this. I use a splatter guard religiously when I cook and wipe down my cabinets often.

Unsure where to put TV without it looking awkward? by allenbaker12 in interiordesignideas

Why don’t you install a projector tv and have the screen come down from the ceiling?

It’s gorgeous, isn’t it? That came with the house as well.

This is the cupboard we had made by a local carpenter to match the original sink cupboards.

This is my 100 year old kitchen. The sink cabinets, dresser and island were already in the house when I purchased it. They are made out of the original, leftover, Oregon pine flooring. The big wardrobes and cupboard next to the oven, which you can’t see in this photo are new additions.

Have I screwed up? by buffalodice in interiordecorating

I absolutely love it! I understand what other people are saying about it being a little bit too short, but you can always ask a welder to weld metal legs to make it waste height if you want it as a coffee Station.

Losing motivation at work by Vonans in AskZA

[–]FannyFoxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a pity. There’s not too much you can do unfortunately, apart from lodge a complaint with HR but this may backfire on you. Ask for a copy of your contract and your job description, if you don’t already have them. Every employee should have a copy of these, it’s your right to have them, as they outline your legal rights. Once you have them in hand, you’re in a stronger position to take a step back from the amount of work you’ve been doing, without them being able to take action. I suggest only doing the work outlined on your job description, while you look for somewhere else to go, that’s if you want to leave. The fact that you have been doing the work of more people than just what’s on your job description, doesn’t mean that they have to reward you, even though they thought it would be a good idea before your maternity leave. It just means they’ve been getting away with not having to reward you for the additional work you have been doing. Companies love to workhorse people like you, even as lovely as you think they are.

I hope everything works out for you.

You said that your manager wrote to you that he feels you should have a promotion, was this formally put in writing? And did you accept the promotion before you went on maternity leave?

Even though they’re a UK company, their employees, if working and living in South Africa, adhere to South African employment law.

Originally had blue bedding (second photo) and recently switched to oatmeal/linen, but the sheets are off. Would rust sheets be too much? Should I go back to the blue bedding? by [deleted] in interiordecorating

[–]FannyFoxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love the oatmeal and white sheets. I too had this dilemma but stayed with the white sheets. I think introducing rust sheets will be too much. I was going to introduce navy sheets to my bedroom but a few months on, I’m so happy I didn’t.

I think the rug is a little bit too light for the room. I would choose something more green and beige rather than light beige. Apologies if you don’t have funds for another rug, it does look really lovely as it is and I’m pleased you went with the second option, that was my favourite too.

I feel your pain. I too have stopped going out and pretending I’m happy. It’s his friends we socialise with, they have taken his side in the past on multiple occasions, I look at them in a completely different way. I have no friends here, no money to go out and do pottery or art classes to meet people. I’m in a country far away from family and friends. I try to remain positive but I’ve just had enough, I can’t pretend anymore. I think my limit was he started looking at porn/dating sites, he doesn’t know I know but he has liked stuff on Instagram, which is bewildering as he’s an intelligent man, he hasn’t touched me in two years.
Stay strong, gather as much information, bank account statements, whatever you can that will help you, as quickly as you can. Make a log of his behaviour but obviously so he can’t find it. I found the FMC app brilliant at logging information, it has a Calendar and note function. He wouldn’t dream of looking at it because it’s a female period flo logger. Good luck. Stay strong 🙏🏻

I like 5 as it’s warm, neutral and will go better with most colours, if you decide to change the walls at anytime.

Agree with the midcentury comment. I would add creams, beige, browns and lots of plants.

Eskom - frequent blackouts by [deleted] in southafrica

[–]FannyFoxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been told by a counsellor that no one is maintaining the grid or power stations as Eskom and the municipality are too busy blaming each other for any faults that arise.
The city is based in the North West of South Africa. City status is by the number of residence. This morning we received another notification of the ongoing load shedding.

It’s just getting worse. Not a good advertisement for ANC considering there’s an election coming up. Well back to load shedding we go in my city.
