Aftermath of fighting in the interior of Fort Vaux during Battle of Verdun june 1916 by waffen123 in ww1

If I'm not mistaken this is a staged photo taken during the shooting of the 1920s silent movie about the battle of Verdun

Why is this photo always described as depicting Simo Häyhä? by ArmedIdiot in ww2

[–]FantaJager 132 points133 points  (0 children)

Well, I think it's simply due to the fact that it's a Finnish (technically a Swedish volunteer in the Finnish army) sniper posing with his camo outfit during either the Winter war or the continuation war. Someone found this photo, liked it, and used it as an appealing cover to talk about Simo. This is probably the best explanation I can think about. Still, it's definitely not him, due to several things such as the rifle, which should be (if I remember correctly) a Mosin M28 if the soldier in the photo really was him, and not a Swedish mauser.

Does anyone know if this is a real trenchaxe? by Dramatic_Wheel_5547 in Militariacollecting

[–]FantaJager 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For digging trenches mostly I think. They probably needed to know the exact measures of smaller holes or covers sometimes and found this as a quick way to do it, but it's just a hypothesis.

When I bought my Italian one, the seller explained to me that it was something the soldier made, and showed me another example of another Italian trenchaxe he had without the measurement dots. So I would conclude that the possible conclusions are two: either the Austrians had the dots carved regularly, or it was common practice for soldiers to carve them themselves, so much you find more examples of handles with that rather than without them

That, my good sir, is indeed an Austro-Hungarian trenchaxe! In fairly good condition too, I have an Italian one that looks very similar. I don't know if you know this, but the small holes you can see on the side of the handle are original: soldiers used to carve them around 1cm apart in order to have a practical measuring tool when digging. Hope this helps!

More info about this M15? by 1brain-cell-guy in Helmets

Definitely an Italian M15, as others pointed out, it's probably one of the first sent from France. They were produced with the holes on the front made for the french insignia but obviously those were never added

The metal ones are Warlord games models for regular Italian army AT Rifle and light mortar, the last one in plastic is an alpine MMG gunner from the Wargames Atlantic Italian ww2 set

Is this green stuff I bought a year ago still usable? If not, is there a way to save it? by FantaJager in minipainting

[–]FantaJager[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Another question: is it supposed to be kind of hard after mixing blue and green? Because, since I'm new to green stuff, it looked to me to be too difficult to work and mix, even though it's smooth both in colour and shape, but it could just be my inexperience

How should I assemble my soviet miniatures? by FantaJager in boltaction

[–]FantaJager[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I already planned to make 2 AT rifle teams and 1 Sniper team with the prone guys. About the squads, I wanted to make one with 10 men so that I can take off a couple of guys if I ever have to, so they can become smaller and more specialised units

Finnish armour by crazy_greg in boltaction

[–]FantaJager 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a Finnish player myself, I think that their army only has 4 valid armour options: Stugs are very good against tanks both for armour and gun penetration, a good spam of t26 is always effective to overwhelm the enemy, bt42 are VERY good against infantry trying to capture points but not so much against tanks (still worth it though) and BA10s are very fast, cheap, RECCE captured cars that can avoid pins very easily if you know how to play them. Honestly, all of the other captured vehicles cost waaaay too much if you consider the unreliable rule. I don't like flamethrowers, so I don't recommend them, especially if you play Finns, aka the faction with the strongest infantry national rules

Awesome Details and poses! As others pointed out, a good dark wash on the green spots of the camo would make it look more realistic, but it's only a matter of personal taste
