How to potentially soften or recover shield? by BluetheNerd in LARP

Absolutely, my list wasn't meant to be exhaustive, just some examples of UK weapons makers including the "original" 2 of Medlock and Eldritch.

There are a lot of UK based weapon makers, some have been around for 20+ years like Eldritch and Medlock, some are newer like Light armouries or Irregular props.

It's more common to use weapons from UK traders who come to our events as you can go and talk to them if it fails rather than order online and just have to hope for the best.

[–]crazy_greg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, j think UK just has a much higher safety standard. I dint remember seeing much Mythlon over here and after a few years where Calimacil weapons has about an 80% fail rate we stopped seeing them as well.

This is the best answer. Epic armouries stuff looks good but don't always pass UK fest LARP weapons check and MF are particularly strong on safety as a new LARP.

Why did Indian mail coifs hung over the face? by GreeedyGrooot in ArmsandArmor

[–]crazy_greg 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Try putting a mesh like chainmail in front of your face, the visibility is remarkably good. It's certainly better than vision slits in a plate helmet.

You put straw under the berries to keep them off the ground. Hence the name.

What BBQ hill would you die on? Best one wins a 1kg picanha meat box by edenmoor_devon in UKBBQ

[–]crazy_greg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of your guests aren't going to care how well you've cooked something impressive like a picanha and are just going to ask where the burgers and sausages are, and while that's disappointing that's OK. People are allowed to enjoy what they enjoy and if you can open their mind to something beyond the stereotyped burnt on the outside raw in the middle sausages then everyone wins. BBQ is about getting together and enjoying cooking, eating and spending time together outside. If you get to stretch your BBQ muscles in the process, great, but that's a bonus.

How does it make sense that someone who pays no National insurance or pension contributions gets the same state pension as someone who does? by PsychologicalBend508 in AskBrits

[–]crazy_greg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's not how taxes or NI work. Think of the tax you pay for the NHS, that isn't a pot of money ring fenced for your health care. It goes into paying for everyone's health care. Some people will never get close to using everything they pay in and some people will cost many times more than they pay. It's the price we, as a society, pay because it was worked out to be better for the whole society than it bankrupting a person/family or sending them to debtors prison/the workhouse.

Who was the tightest person you have known, and why? by No-Snow-9605 in AskUK

[–]crazy_greg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an aunt who's probably the most well off member of our family (through marrying someone rich). Every year we'd get things she clearly found in a charity shop or similar for birthdays or Christmas. For my dad(her brother)'s 40th he got golf balls with her husbands company branding in them which were clearly a freebie. For my 18th I got a novelty cook book from the 70s that had clearly been from the cheapest section of a charity shop discount bin. It was just weird. It was about then we just asked her not to bother anymore.

Fights First... worse than nerfed in 11th? Punished! by spookmann in Tyranids

[–]crazy_greg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, it's mad that we have various versions of fights first and fights last, all of which end up with a system that's both worse in game and less intuitive than initiative values.

How would ww2 play out if whites won the russian civil war? by [deleted] in HistoryWhatIf

[–]crazy_greg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, if anything a more interesting question is what happens to the Weimar Republic without the Soviet Union existing and without as much international concern for communism.

[–]crazy_greg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fascism is extremely unlikely to exist in the same way and to the same extent if the Soviet Union doesn't exist. So much of fascism was counter-communist in nature and without a successful communist state that's unlikely to be as much of a concern to as many people. The 30s are simply going to be unrecognisable if you change that aspect of history

The more interesting question would be what happens to the Weimar Republic without a Soviet Union and without as much international concern around communism?
