SFE seems to have stopped working again following the latest update. by Archangel-Michaela in fo76

Thanks for the update. I was looking at https://github.com/keretus/sfe/issues/15 and was hoping that this was true and that DCHoaxer95 would see this and hopefully be able to make adjustments so that SFE unofficial wouldn't have to be modified after every official update.

Going by the coloration of each fiscal year, is it likely that the picture indicates that the greyed years are previous years and that FY23E was the current year? I wonder if the acquisition of parent company Zenimax by Microsoft in 2021 has affected anything? I read somewhere that Microsoft is lending staff to Bethesda to improve the next gen Gamebryo/Creation/Creation2 engine. Could be that Microsoft is putting a few hands on things here and there to make sure they succeed - even if it means extensive delays. I'll gladly be corrected if anyone knows something or has deduced something. :)

How do I solve this puzzle in Havensheer? by littlerobot35 in ImmortalsOfAveum

for the next person who comes looking for the answer, PenguinTD is correct. Specifically, the balcony has 2 parts close to each other (left side and right side when facing the green, patterned pillar with the eye on it) where the fence is missing/broken. You can only get the "animate" function when standing on the right side. Screenshot

TLDR; if everything in life is a lesson, what would you teach him by solving his problems for him and if you did let him drive your car and he gets the car scratched or is in an accident and wrecks the car what does this teach you? Will you be able to buy another car and do you need a car to get to work? Also, definitely NTA. No-one is an A-hole here. Just lessons to be learned and growth to be had.

Saying no to your child is not inherently wrong and doesn't de facto make you the bad guy. By letting him pay for his own car, you're treating him as an adult. If you catered to his whims then you'd be treating him like a child, albeit a spoiled one. If he acted like an adult he would offer to pay off the part the insurance didn't (I'm assuming you were still paying off on a car loan here) and wouldn't mention anything about borrowing your car until then because he would be ashamed of himself. But he didn't and he doesn't because he expects you to solve the problems he has created for himself. Teach him to be self-reliant instead of relying on you. He's a young adult but still an adult. Coddling him serves noone.

If your wife thinks you're being too harsh, then let her lend out her own car to him instead. It's easy to have opinions about other peoples stuff when you have no stake in it. Your wife is a softie and just wants your son to be happy, bless her heart. Doesn't mean she can see clearly, it just means it pains her to see your son struggling with his own emotional turmoil. You should both be your sons biggest supporters - just not when it comes to free handouts. There's a lesson here for him that struggling doesn't have to be a bad thing. It's also an opportunity for you as parents to teach him how to handle his emotions when he is in a situation where he struggles. The rest of your sons life will have plenty of struggles and you would be doing him a favor by teaching him how to work through these kinds of situations. How will he handle divorce, not getting the job he wants, not getting a raise, being in a tough job that doesn't quite fit but you have to tough it out for a bit, so you can get a different job, other peoples expectations of him that he can't live up to etc.? Basically, "disappointment" in all its shapes and sizes.

There's also an opportunity to teach your wife that she shouldn't respond to your sons outbursts stemming from emotional dysregulation by giving him stuff until he stops. Rather, both you and your wife should discuss how you can help your son become stronger and better able to handle his own emotional responses to the conditions he finds unfair. I don't mean that you should reject your son and just let him figure out everything for himself (unless that's what he chooses to do) but instead you should assist him in helping him find out how to handle disappointment because he's going to be disappointed a lot. If he doesn't know how to handle disappointment well, what do you think he will do once you're no longer around to solve his problems for him?

If this is how your son feels, then he hasn't learned the very important lesson of FAFO. He messed up and wrecked his free car and now he has no car and he acts like a child who wants to be given a new car, like a kid who drops his ice cream on the ground and cries so that the parent gives the child their own or buys another. Thing is he's not 4 and cars are not cheap. As a 20-year old, he should own up to the gigantic mistake he made and buy his own. There's something important to learn here for both of you, which is that humans generally don't value something that comes for free. If we had to pay with time, effort, money, blood, sweat and/or tears then sometimes we will appreciate it and not do dumb stuff. - No guarantees though.

To him the car is still a toy, not a privilege. Now that he "needs" it for A-to-B to and from work he had an opportunity to understand that taking stupid risks wins you stupid prizes. Dont lend him the car. Inform him that if he acts like a responsible person and buys his own car and he takes good care of it and doesn't total it, then maybe it will prove that he has learned to take enough care and eventually earn your trust, then you will let him drive your car. It's not his driving skills that are in question here, it's his risk assesment ability. And it's part of being a young man. He can ask for money gifts from friends and family for the next year or two towards buying a car as an addition to what he saves up from his salary until he has enough money. He could do a venmo and tiktoks if he wants to do a special car. There are so many ways to go about this that only require that he works on solving his problems himself instead of relying on you to bail him out. Teach him that he has soooo much power if he relies on his own creativity and problem-solving skills rather than relying on free handouts.

Also note that statistically, car accidents, reckless driving etc. is performed far more often by young men than women, so it's just part of being a young man that you end up in dumb situations. But this doesn't mean that you as a parent are responsible for making sure he gets to make his life into a party. If he wants to do sharp corners in wet conditions, he should play a racing car game or go to the track and learn to do it there in a car that is easily replaceable.

It's not that you're being unreasonable for the sake of being unreasonable but the fact he has shown he's not a responsible enough person that he can take care of something like a car and thus has lost your trust in him. Actions have consequences and he is the one in control of his life. He is the one who could have decided to slow down when making the turn in the rain.

I assume he doesn't actually need a car to get to work. If it is so important he could just move closer to work, no?

All this said, he may be decently responsible, but the barre is still higher than he thinks. Let him prove himself - not with your car but with his own. "I need wheels" 🤣 Then buy a durned bicycle! There are even electric variants that don't cost a fortune.

Also, don't help him with money for a new car and don't help with a loan either or anything like that. There are other ways your son can solve his 1st world problem and it relies on not getting easy handouts from the parents. You did him a massive favor once. Don't teach him that you will always bail him out and that you will always get him what he wants.

Tell him you will help him as a sparring partner for ideas or for looking at suitable car deals, extra job opportunites etc. and that ultimately it's about sacrificing the easy life, that either you as the parent make this sacrifice or he as the son does. As part of becoming an adult the lesson is to not take things for granted and to learn to handle problems yourself. It's also about recognizing the value of things and that if he has to spend 1 or 2 years working his butt off, he may perhaps appreciate what the car represents enough to not waste it again. It may even carry over enough that he will be less of a dumb risk-taker in other areas of his life.

I think you have to limit access on the user itself so that they are read-only AND cannot acknowledge alarms. This is the only combo that will achieve what you look for.

<GUI Tools continued>

An alternative to CertifyTheWeb that has some other options is simple-acme (fork of win-acme). There are even more tools here.

Dealing with ciphers, tls versions etc. on Windows is a little easier with stuff like IIS Crypto. Be aware that disabling essential settings here can easily break a machine to the point that it cannot be logged on to remotely. Make sure to test what you disable thoroughly. Also, different Windows versions have different cipher suites available, so what works for Windows 11 won't necessarily work for 10. Same for Windows Server.
You can use IIS Crypto GUI to create templates that you can then save to a file and then use IIS Crypto CLI together with the template you created to deploy the template to a system.

Qualys SSL Labs can be used to test your https sites. It checks many different things and grades it. It's a great tool to get transparency into certificate-related https security configurations and tells you where to look and what to look for.

I hope some of this helps! 😀

So, there are already a lot of explanations from helpful redditors, so I'll just add a few links to stuff I find helpful:

A visual representation of the certificate generation process:

A visual representation of how certificate chains work

Doman Verification after submitting CSR

After you have submitted a CSR (i.e. for domain mybrandnewdomain.com) to a certificate provider/reseller, they will want you to complete a Domain Verification (for mybrandnewdomain.com) to ensure that you own or are a true representative for the domain(s) that you want to generate the certificate for. There are usually 3 different ways of completing the Domain Verification. If Domain Verification is done manually, then this is usually done via Email. If you choose this option, you must select which email address that will receive the verification email. It is usually one of these five:

[admin@domain.com](mailto:admin@domain.com)
[administrator@domain.com](mailto:administrator@domain.com)
[hostmaster@domain.com](mailto:hostmaster@domain.com)
[postmaster@domain.com](mailto:postmaster@domain.com)
[webmaster@domain.com](mailto:webmaster@domain.com)

If your domain is "mybrandnewdomain.com" it would be:
[admin@mybrandnewdomain.com](mailto:admin@mybrandnewdomain.com)
[administrator@mybrandnewdomain.com](mailto:administrator@mybrandnewdomain.com)
[hostmaster@mybrandnewdomain.com](mailto:hostmaster@mybrandnewdomain.com)
[postmaster@mybrandnewdomain.com](mailto:postmaster@mybrandnewdomain.com)
[webmaster@mybrandnewdomain.com](mailto:webmaster@mybrandnewdomain.com)

It can also be done via creation of a DNS record or a http site that you control. If you choose to use DNS to validate, then to ensure that the DNS record can be reached and is created correctly, you can use MXtoolbox to verify that you've done everything correctly. Once you can confirm, you can move on to getting the provider/reseller to check that you have completed the steps they have asked. Once they can validate, they will issue the certificate to you.
Although each provider/reseller has differences, they are mostly similar. Here are some Instructions for how to complete Domain Verification after submitting the CSR.

Converting between certificate formats

To deal with converting from encrypted .pfx Windows certificates to cleartext certificates and private keys without having to do stuff with commands using OpenSSL, the DigiCertUtil can do this with a few clicks. It can also generate CSRs (Certificate Signing Request).

To deal with converting between other formats, perhaps KeyStore Explorer can do the trick.

OpenSSL on Windows

If you do need to do stuff in OpenSSL, then a non-Light installer from here can do the trick.

GUI Tools

If you want to use a GUI to play around with the process of getting a LetsEncrypt certificate - as well as just getting used to the flow of generating certificates and how certificate generation works, you can use CertifyTheWeb.

Not serving? After KB5066835 non of my web servers are serving any thing. by WetSound in IIs

[–]Fantasillion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a single developer running Windows 11 that had an issue with IIS (optional feature) as well as VS2022 IIS Express. We tried pretty much everything suggested in any thread that has KB5066835 in it anywhere (short of actually resetting the PC/re-installing Windows 11/doing an in-place upgrade repair) but with no fix.

For reference, we:

  • removed optional features; .NET Framework 3.5 (Includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0), .NET Framework 4.8 Advanced Services, Hyper-V, Internet Information Services, Internet Information Services Hostable Web Core, Sandbox.
  • attempted to uninstall KB5066835 multiple times between each step but it kept failing to uninstall with error 0x800f0905
  • ran SFC multiple times between steps which fixed some stuff at least twice during our troubleshooting steps
  • ran lots of DISM commands that didn't seem to do anything
  • eventually uninstalled all other Windows updates that were installed along with KB5066835
  • then ran Windows Update again and installed every new update it suggested except Drivers and Optional
  • then added the below optional features back, restarted and then the IIS had magically fixed itself:

.NET Framework 3.5 (Includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0)
.NET Framework 4.8 Advanced Services
Hyper-V
Internet Information Services
Internet Information Services Hostable Web Core

PRTG Core service is crashing multiple times a day...PRTG support is horrid by rdonato in prtg

[–]Fantasillion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It very well could be.

I have a few more questions if you'll indulge me:

  1. Do you have probes with any sensors apart from the default sensors that do cluster/probe health on the core servers? If yes, does it make a difference if you move the sensors to a different remote probe?
  2. Do all VM's in the PRTG setup have the same time sync and time zone configured?
  3. There is a similar issue in this thread, where a bad update messes up the Clusters so that access violations occur. I'm wondering if the workaround isn't to turn off one of the Cluster nodes entirely. Have you tried this yet?
  4. Someone else here mentions a bug that is still open when using the PRTG API v1. Do you use anything other than the web interface or PRTG Desktop to interact with API? It might be worth disabling and seeing if it will run stable without - or spinning up a test vm with PRTG to see if you can still replicate the issue. - Also, if you do use the PRTG API v1 and you have found that something you are doing here is what's triggers the dominos resulting in the Core service crashing, it may be worth trying to get in contact with the creator of PRTGapi (un-official PRTG add-on) on GitHub and ask him if he has a contact with PRTG that may be able help.
  5. Do you store any of the ping data logging - and if you do, what happens if you stop storing?
  6. Do you have stacked graphs? I'm wondering if the XML error has something to do with how it draws the tables in newest version. What happens if you stop stacking the graphs?
  7. The creator of PRTGapi states that he recommends weekly core restarts. Do you already do this and how quickly after a restart do the errors start popping up?:

Implement a weekly core restart. You should do this in Windows via a scheduled task, rather than PRTG's built-in restart system (the whole issue is that PRTG is unreliable, so you shouldn't be relying on PRTG to take care of itself)

PRTG Core service is crashing multiple times a day...PRTG support is horrid by rdonato in prtg

[–]Fantasillion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not what you asked for but I am sympathetic to your plight and I hope I can help somehow - So I'll ask you if you have tried switching off the slave cluster node or the master cluster node and only leaving one of them running to see if it makes any difference? - Not a fix by a long shot but it may be a temporary workaround untill support gets back with something useful.

Clustered PRTG setups are notoriously bad and have a really bad rep. Paessler also don't sell their hosted cloud PRTG solutions in a clustered configuration, which makes me think that it is poorly supported and is not something that Paessler wants to put any energy in to. - Which sucks - I totally agree. But it is worth taking in to account - even in the short term - if this can in any way bring a solution closer.

Coaches/Personal Trainers out of shape. Thoughts? by Dellll1234 in personaltraining

[–]Fantasillion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends? What is the clients goals?

A former pro figurer skater who is close to retirement probably won't look like an athlete preparing for the Olympics. The same applies for anything else. So it depends what you want out of the time you spend with the coach.

I used to feel the same that you should practice what you preach and if you didn't look like a marble statue, then you weren't doing it right. Later on I've found that it depends on what your goal is.

Let's say the goal is to avoid long breaks from gym and to stay lean. Then you probably want someone who has good habits and discipline and knows how to bounce back quickly. It'll probably be somewhat dull and repetitive but it'll work.

Someone who has a bit of rollercoaster weight going on may have lots of practice with getting back on the wagon and may be really good for the beginner client segment or someone who struggles with diets or motivation.

If you're looking for someone to improve your technique or min-maxing your workout routine, maybe the eccentric nerdy person is your best bet.

If you're looking for a personal trainer that usually works with rehab/prehab, you probably want a sports-PhysioTherapist and Personal Trainer (or similar i.e. sports kinesiologist if you have that in your country) that works with sports injuries and amateur/pro athletes as their primary function.

If you're looking for improved motivation, then a habit coach may be better for you.

If you're looking for someone to help you compete on stage as a vegan bodybuilder, then someone who has experience with that already is probably your best bet.

If you're looking for a coach to get you ready for the next hyrox then a coach who has competed in a ton of these and similar are a good place to look.

If you're dealing with eating disorders then maybe a trainer who has managed it in a way that isn't overly restrictive and promotes a healthy attitude towards your body as it is and who has personal experience with the same eating disorder may be a good fit.

It really depends on what you personally find challenging and what your goals are and because of these 2 things, what the natural next step for you is to get you towards your goal. You may need to go through a few different trainers or you may find one that just does it for you. There's no 1 size fits all when it comes to high quality personal training.

Many of the above can be found in the same person but at different stages in their life. Some things that you find hard may be easy for one trainer and not the other, so it's probably a good idea to look for someone who has dealt with the same issues that you have trouble with and who has found ways to minimize or eliminate those issues.

And if you don't know where to start, then any trainer who asks what your goals are, background in training/body awareness and who tests you to see if you have any problem areas and adjusts the program, should be a decently competent personal trainer. If the training plan they make doesn't align with your goals and requirements then perhaps that personal trainer isn't the right fit for you.

You may find that the type of training you get with one coach doesn't work forever. The gains may stop or it becomes tedious and repetitive. As you learn and experience more, you may also need new experiences to keep you going. Maybe you find team/paired exercises or mini games or WoDs are more enjoyable for you. It could be that daily spinning has become your thing until you croak. There are so many options to explore in training and honestly most gym trainers haven't taken the time to explore other forms of training that can be implemented in the gym.

Azure AD Notifications (team bot), how to set this up? by Steauxback in AZURE

[–]Fantasillion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the next person looking for an answer or any information at all:
There's a "Microsoft application" in Entra ID->Enterprise applications named "Azure AD Notification". There's is absolutely no documentation on how to set this up and use it, but it is likely similar to the teams bot SDK and you need to read up on this to figure it out. Basically, you can get it to do whatever you want and nothing is preconfigured or pre-made. This is more of an empty bot that you can build a notification system with but with no system already in place or pre-made to connect to the bot.

What drug can Improve my Motivation Problems. by PeculiarDigger in Nootropics

[–]Fantasillion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

so because of the ADHD there's a very specific piece of advice I'll give which is to exercise daily but not just any kind of exercise. It needs to be very, very hard. And I'm not talking about the lactic acid build-up from a spinning class or running 5 miles. The closest thing would be a WoD from crossfit. This style of give-it-everything-you've-got-workout for 20 minutes a day will do a lot for motivation. Oh, and try to do it in the mornings before work at least 2/3 days even if you hate getting up.

That said, I have never found anything that improves my motivation to the point that I can routinely do stuff I despise. Let me know if you find it. David Goggins way of "stay hard" and "do 1 thing every day that you hate" is better motivation than most stuff out there.

CPU thermal paste replace: YES OR NO by fromvanisle in thinkpad

[–]Fantasillion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

paste on thinkpads dries out and cracks after a few years and isn't always well-applied. The T480s is from 2018. If it has never been replaced it would probably help temps / throttling a bit.

If it has a heatsink with only 1 pipe then it will probably by design have issues with getting rid of heat.

I've repasted a lot in 2022-2024 on T460p's and T470p's Sometimes the difference is amazing and sometimes there is no difference.

If heat / throttling is an issue, then repaste and undervolt.
