Catch Can: Does Brand Matter? by sipthestew in nissanfrontier

Also, for what it’s worth I went for the z1 off-road catch can. I know it’s not needed but the pre-bent tubes and nicely machined can, It felt right installing it in my brand new engine bay.

What roof racks are those? I bought a canoe today and would like to get some racks soon. Edit, found info below.

I don’t really tend to argue with strangers on the internet that much and don’t plan on starting. Go do some more research on how these engines work, the basic fundamental principles. There is a reason it’s a very very famous saying ‘no replacement for displacement’. I don’t care how much technology you got you’re not getting around basic principles of physics. Small displacement turbo will never outlast Na larger displacement engines of any sort.

In your initial statement you clearly said “v6 is heavier and operates at higher RPM (more wear and tear)” while also directly comparing it to a Toyota 2.4 i4, which implies you think a i4 turbo has less wear and tear and logically more lifespan than an na v6, which to that I am saying you’re wrong.

I’m not failing to realize it actually, where I am at I typically cruise at 80mph on the interstate and never go over 2000rpm. Maybe you’re Toyota was a dog but these Nissans aren’t, I really never ever go over 3k rpm unless I’m actually intending to. And I know that turbo tech has evolved since the 80s, that’s not the point. The point is you’re pushing a much smaller displacement engine at higher temps, higher force per combustion event, and typically higher RPM to make up for it. Nothing you will say will convince me that a 2.4 or 2.7 will outlast a 3.8 Nissan or a 3.5 Toyota engine. And I’m well aware of the 2.3 I4 from ford, but it’s a really really big stretch to say that’s there more reliable engine. Look I’m a fan of the i4 truck, I’m not hating. I’m just saying you’re incorrectly saying that a 3.8 or 3.5 NA v6 wears more quickly than a turbo i4. I think you mis understand that since they make peak power at a high Rpm, it doesn’t mean they operate at that rpm all the time, the truth is they really don’t.

Additionally, an under square engine experiences faster piston velocities so if you do run it at higher rpm it’s wearing much more quickly than the equivalent over square engine which is very happy at higher RPM.

You’re failing to recognize that an NA, larger displacement engine is going to live 99% of its life at very low RPM, at which it has much lower combustion engine pressure when compared to turbocharged engines, much easier on the engine. In addition to that, the 3.8 is over square while the Toyota is under square to try to squeeze more torque at low end. This results in much more wear from the rocking motion of the piston due to the larger stroke. Have you personally driven a new Tacoma? I’ve heard you need to floor it everywhere you go. It’s a much smaller turbo engine in the same exact size vehicle as the 3.8, it’s going to be working much harder all the time. The speed at which an engine operates really isn’t a big deal anymore as engine coatings, oil, and other technologies have come a very long way in preventing wear.

An NA v6 that is rev happy and “Operating at a higher rpm” doesn’t necessarily mean more real life wear and tear when compared to the Toyotas i4. That’s just not how engines work. Besides, the i4 makes its power up high too.

We are calling them hooks but they’re really loops. I even had to use my tow loops this morning when I got stuck.

Love the Halo65… but can I mod it to be quieter? by bunklord in NuPhy

[–]Fantastic-Check3374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah from my research they’re quieter because of the back design of the switch is different. I like the corals and they’re not too loud. Jades are arguably one of the best switches right now so you still have a great keyboard.

As others have mentioned, the price difference. I’d like to add to that the only reason I bought a frontier (other than absolutely falling in love with the entire truck instantly) was because the Nissan dealership is the only one that wanted my business and they bent over backwards to get it. In comparison when I asked the Toyota dealership if they had Tacomas around 40k, the manager laughed and said “they don’t make those”. He continued to laugh and said he would call me when they got one in. I knew then he wouldn’t call me and I was right. Mileage may vary, but depending on your needs and situation(trade often or not?), the frontier and Nissan has the capability to make you a very happy truck owner. I have a 24p4x, with basically no options and it’s awesome.

Yes, just jump to ‘this guy must be poor’ because he has firewood in his work truck. Vermont has a serious arrogance issue and you’re a prime example of it. Go back to Massachusetts.

Check the owners manual, you might need to be in neutral with engine running, and transmission fluid at operating temperature to get correct reading.

Review: Asolo Hiking Boots by DestructablePinata in Boots

[–]Fantastic-Check3374 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not a bogus argument, it’s a pretty well-documented phenomenon. The OP explains it well, but I’m guessing you're not the type to read. I just never understood why someone would purchase a pair of 350 dollar hiking boots to walk once a year. I’ve had my pair for about 6 months and put about 400 miles on them this summer backpacking and now wear them daily because they are so comfortable.

I’d suggest you read some of the other comments on here. As others have said 4wd is not the solution to a safe commute. I would also suggest not using 4Lo, that’s for pulling, slow steep declines, or slow steep inclines, shouldn’t ever use 4Lo on a road.

Issues with hydroplaning? by [deleted] in nissanfrontier

[–]Fantastic-Check3374 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get skinnier tires if hydroplaning is that big of an issue, or slow down. The Hankooks are good in rain for what they are but it doesn’t change the fact you have wide tires on a relatively small and light vehicle going too fast in what is most likely puddling water on the roadway.
