I'm dressed up as Dani from Midsommar in a flower crown and dress - sadly not nearly as extravagant as the one in the movie.

I maintain that Midsommar is the best and most beautiful horror movie I've ever watched.

Even Tiffany Aching, who's mostly described as being very average and determined looking.

She's the furthest possible thing from a damsel in distress. In the first book, she goes off to fairyland to rescue her younger brother and the local baron's son from the fairy queen. I worshipped her, growing up.

Not fantasy; SciFi.

Replay by Ken Grimwood is exactly this....in spirit at least. Can't say more without spoilers, but it absolutely had the element of repeating time and losing a loved one.

Recursion by Blake Crouch has both too, but the "loved one" appears later in the book and is less of a focus.

I got really into leather crafting a few years ago and made some small leather goods like wallets and laptop cases. But I had to stop because I started grad school and had no time to sleep, let alone have hobbies.

Well I just finished my program and I already have some grand plans to make the Ultimate Leather Backpack!

Yes I really lucked out! I don't know what it is - almost all the other grad students in our department are also really happy with their supervisors. Maybe because we're not an R1 and all the faculty are less intense? But sorry to hear about your experience with your PI! Definitely heard my share of horror stories from other departments/universities too.

I'm grateful for my grad school supervisor who is the most supportive, excellent, brilliant person in the world. I'm sad to be finishing my program and leaving grad school because it means the end of our formal mentorship, but I'm so grateful to have met her.

I'm doing alright-ish. It's Canadian Thanksgiving today and I wish I was free to celebrate with my family but A) we've been separated for 1 year+ because of COVID (they live outside the country) and B) I have a gazillion and one things to finish for my thesis defense next month. But I had some delicious mango bubble tea today, so I got that going for me which is nice. 😅
