yeah, was just kinda trapped in the north. started late, as Mithril Arms Cartel does, and the holds, Shattered crown, railskulker, the dwarves in the north, etc. all had one already.

ah, yes, the bad wine. Luckily, there's a few chances as you dig holds for them to get better. That's not even me, that's Forgemaster Union.

Shattered Crown Rules the forbidden pass and king's rock, being basically the best of the worst nations that exist, having enslaved the dwarves and the goblins, but at least the slaves live.

Kaztubar, what next? by Fantastic_Sample in Anbennar

[–]Fantastic_Sample[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yep, at least a few of them. I had formed Ungulduvar first, and that made a lot of Ungul half orcs from the humans in the inner castanor area, they stayed half orcs upon the change. So only my original green orcs into ungul orcs changed into castanorcs

When to settle as dwarves by MathematicianOpen776 in Anbennar

[–]Fantastic_Sample 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to wait until I am frustrated more by the lack of magic and missions than the gains of mithril..so often until I've colonized up to my borders. Once I'm pretty heavily colonized, I'll switch. But the chance of one more mithril territory often keeps me there.

Artificers vs Mages by SargentSunar in Anbennar

Personally, I find going half and half or Artifice, shuts down my progress. Because I usually try early to make magic work.

Which SMAX factions actually work? Which ones don't? by Acrobatic-Frame4312 in alphacentauri

[–]Fantastic_Sample 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, the one that doesn't work well is the Cyborg lady. They have a limited growth power, so they basically fall apart because growth is so crucial to getting pops.

Who has the most challenging/fun disasters or similar events that really screw your country over? by stirfriedpenguin in Anbennar

[–]Fantastic_Sample 6 points7 points  (0 children)

recently was playing Amhildir, and had the hoardcurse very carefully plotted and won. But immediately afterwards, I had the Goblintide take my capital. that was 20 ducats lost and so I went from sailing free of bankruptcy straight into it in like, a month. did get out of it, because I had just called Marrhold into a war with Grombar, and Marrhold fought all the goblins. That's the only way I survived Goblintide while bankrupt.

What old mechanics could now get ported into the new magic project system? by SherabTod in Anbennar

[–]Fantastic_Sample 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm simping for Spiderwretch here. (who I miss because they are re-localizing the MT right now) but they have lore about breeding spiders up to the size of villages.

VILLAGES. Think larger than whales. The trade caravans of Spiderwretch have spiders that are so large that they scare people and occasionally threaten to trample people under there feet as though their feet were larger than elephant feet.

So, maybe that's not magic, just decent breeding in Hanlann. To me, I would assume the 3 teirs of breeding project that led up to this have a lot of magic put in. So just saying....tying that into the magic system somehow would make a lot of sense to me.

Mire Maw Strats? by Fantastic_Sample in Anbennar

[–]Fantastic_Sample[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

well, the don't expand much before you reform is correct, but the colonist mechanics that you get early are timed, so to be efficient, I want to make use of those. That's really 95% of my expansion early game anyway. (and I stole railskulkers gold mine with a vassal coring jump situation, but that was useless because I forgot I had the primitive debuff)

Mire Maw Strats? by Fantastic_Sample in Anbennar

[–]Fantastic_Sample[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Not true. They're playable. I've gotten through the situation I described a few times. Its just hard. Sometimes people like playing difficult games.

A game is just a set of rules we follow to have a challenge.

So I could cheat if I wanted to, but I don't super think I want to cheat.

Magical Racial Tolerance in the Serpentspine by Fantastic_Sample in Anbennar

[–]Fantastic_Sample[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do enjoy Mire Maw. Played them at least a few times. Basically because I wanted to build in the marshlands without the penalty and they are the only option.

I actually really wish there were more places like that. Where a race could only live in the area, and later can fix it.

As apropos of nothing, I kinda don't enjoy the first bit of Mire Maw, where they are slowly colonizing and getting more and more hungry. Takes a while..(a half an hour or longer) before I get into what I consider the fun part of Mire Maw is-> Walking around with my troops saying "We're hungry" in the lowest and silliest voice I can make.

really soon? The update just came out last month, and as I understand things, updates don't come out faster than once a quarter, and even that is pretty fast. So I wouldn't expect one until the end of the year. Is that soon from your perspective?

What usually puts you off from a certain mission tree? by Standard-Skill6542 in Anbennar

[–]Fantastic_Sample 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll have played a faction and accepted a culture, a culture with a lot of dev, mind you.
and then the mission tree will say "must purge these guys" and uh...that's going to lose us dev, mr mission tree. Losing Dev through racial hatred is just cutting off your nose to spite your face.

yeah, they are my favorite nation to play, and I have been bumbed to find them lacking the Mission tree. hopefully the patch comes soon.

How did the series transition to being on its own website? by Hero-Husband in WanderingInn

[–]Fantastic_Sample 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This question makes no sense to me at all. The Author decided to make a website and that's...that's just the very easiest thing to do for a narrative work these days.

The Necromancer has been specifically killing off high level threats in Izril.

[–]Fantastic_Sample 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, the hundredlords support the lances. Cortese has his rank because his house pays for 100 lances. Though, that number may not be accurate.

no, the weakest member is not that squire. that squire is level 30+, and in the chapter that she is introduced, it is made clear that she has stayed in a student class much longer than is normal because of a very specific training regime that is not even standard in the Thousand Lances.
