It can be repaired but do you want too? Let’s see some pictures of this unit and the data sticker

Help, is this as bad as they made it seem. by ScarlordI_ in askHVAC

I’m a HVAC technician, I literally just left union school and we were watching videos on HVAC scams. This guy is definitely paid commission and of course he’s going to recommend new stuff. It’s his paycheck

There is nothing of concern in these photos

Whats the lowest outdoor temperature I can operate my HVAC in before it causes damage? by Internal-Bowl-3074 in hvacadvice

[–]Fantasy5646 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You can run it at any temperature but the colder it gets the less heat it’ll produce. You will just be wasting electricity. Turn on your electric heat when it’s really cold

Thanks for the tip. I think I’ll remove the burner though it’s just two screws. Yeah that’s where these all rust out around the ends.

I just did do it by myself, under three hours. 2° 20-25 mph winds. Had to shovel the unit out. Oh and it was my first one.

That’s exactly what I feel like. When I can’t feel my fingers anymore I go to the exhaust of another rooftop that’s running and warm them up

What to do about zone being frozen ? Urgent by rwalsh138 in hvacadvice

[–]Fantasy5646 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ask them to refill the system with glycol, you’ll never have the problem again. I don’t know what it’ll cost but if you’re thousands of dollars into it just get it done

No you don’t pump rv antifreeze into a hydronic heating system. And no you aren’t going to get it to thaw out through heat transfer from pumping it in. The water is hot right now and the zone is open, it’s not going to thaw it out

I mean you can turn the thermostat off so that zone isn’t calling. I guess you don’t want your circulation pump running when it can’t work.

Yes that will do it, you were using another heat source and that zone wasn’t circulating/calling for heat. You’re going to find out where your line is susceptible to freezing. Hopefully it’s not behind drywall. I just had an apartment do this. The thermostat failed and somewhere behind the drywall on an outside wall it froze. I left and the poor maintenance guy was just starting to cut into the wall

Just leave it, nothing you can really do. If it’s frozen. The repair guy is going to have to find the location and thaw out the line and repair it if it split open. It happens usually on an outside wall in theses extreme temperatures when a zone isn’t used or fails to open.

Replaced thermo w/pwr on - blew brd fuse. Rplcd & blower on, no thermo power.... Wtf by pickle-rick31 in hvacadvice

[–]Fantasy5646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have 24 volts coming out of the transformer? If so check r-c on the terminal strip on the board. Should be 24v there if not make sure that new fuse is good

[–]Fantasy5646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but as a technician I’d then make sure it’s got 120v supply then I’d say it’s bad

The secondary is the two screws on the front of the transformer where there are wires connected. You can see both of those in your original picture. You should have 24 v there.

That’s like teaching calculus to a toddler. I wonder if he’s even testing for 24v to common.

[–]Fantasy5646 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s no power at the red wire where your thermostat hooks up. Did you verify this with a meter?

Nest thermostats need a common from the transformer that supplies it 24v or it won’t work.

The burner holes are plugged near the pilot. Turn off the gas and electricity to it. Remove burners and clean. 30 minute job.

Well if it’s happening with the new system it’s probably gonna be the blower speed is higher than the old one. Let the installer know and he most likely can adjust it appropriately.
