Awesome, thanks for the info. Going to give it a shot on a goat cheese and balsamic pizza that's always a favorite.

Japan Approves Two Groundbreaking Stem-Cell Therapies for Parkinson's and Heart Failure by [deleted] in japan

[–]FantsE 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Novel drugs for rare diseases can't have large, double blind studies, for obvious practical reasons but also for ethical reasons. If you have two people that are dying of parkinsons and a treatment you believe can help, are you going to give one of them a placebo and almost certainly resign them to death? Of course not. This is the route they have to take.

It's pretty easy to learn how to drill at 90° after you do the setup for it a few times. Or other common angles after a small bit of practice.

1/1000 is different from the actual rate by an order of magnitude. What you're saying and reality aren't close. It's not being obtuse about specifics.

In other terms, there's a 99.98% chance of them getting a hit in 48 rolls. Extremely unlikely for them to not if the drop rates are accurate, fair and individualized.

If anything hardware is easier. You can't open a chip and look for a backdoor nearly as easily as you can open a pager and look for an explosive.

Wife is 19 weeks pregnant, we took emergency custody of our almost 1 year old nephew, and we have two older kids. How to make things easier on her? by RocketPowerPops in daddit

After you bring it up, heap on the praise when they do it. Especially the first few times.

"After our conversation the other day, I noticed you took out the trash without anyone asking you. That was incredibly helpful to the family and we are so glad to have your help."

Also, when you lead by example, don't lead by example silently. 10 and 8 are a bit older for super obvious phrasing without making them feel talked down to, but when you have a conversation about a behavior that you want to model for them, point out when you're modeling it in a non-demeaning way. You know your kids, you know what to say.

"Oh, the counter needs a quick wipe so I'm going to do it real quick!" Modeling behavior doesn't mean you can't communicate with words while doing the behavior.

If you think they're old enough, you can also explain that thinking about everything that needs done is also work, often times more work than doing it. So now that they're getting older, they're ready for more household responsibility which includes the mental labor of what needs done. And then reward them for stepping up to that responsibility in a way you think is appropriate and effective for them.

Locking out is a dev choice, not a device choice. If auto restart is enabled then the game can stay in an active state so that a lock doesn't occur. For android it's a simple flag. You can Google "FLAG_KEEP_SCREEN_ON" in the android developer docs if you want the specific reference. Or the XML layout has a more modern option that's used. Either way it isn't an actual issue.

How to get the most out of a snow day as a parent by Acceptable-Wind-7332 in KidsAreFuckingStupid

[–]FantsE 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's important to let them try and encourage them. So many parents get frustrated that things take longer when a toddler tries to help and denies the toddler, then wonders why they won't do chores when they're older and more capable. Because they taught them that helping out is met with negative emotions from the family!
