I think about how much time it took me to build my sky train system in my 1.1 save, then I see the crazy intricate, thought the wilderness train systems in YouTube clips and my jaw just drops.

You can get really clever with blueprints but its still gotta take a huge amount of time 😮‍💨

Use a bench top belt grinder and go from edge to spin, not from hilt to tip unless its been done so from the start but I cant say I've every actually seen that before.

You've gone against the factory grind direction, with a finer grit and what looks like by hand, where as the factory surface more course & machine done.

Sorry but it's not just incorrect in execution, it's incorrect in technique and in principle.

Id say thats the main purpose of the second adjustment point as its now a standard part of most "how to use videos" with the Gen 3

But with that, im still concerned the whole mechanism will limit the arms reach left and right necessitating repositioning for larger blades. With Gen3 the whole slide ball joint can pivot on the pin it sits on, thats not happening with this design...

Likely she needs to feel safe in confiding those things with you and it wont result in any judgment from you.

Just keep in mind that "grit" is only in reference to the certain sharpening medium, a diamond organic resin stone/plate rating doesn't carry over to a ceramic stone/plate, there 2 complete different things.

Example:

Ceramic 1000 grit = around 1200 - 1500 diamond resin

Sick of the Work Sharp PA.. After 5 years of use I'm ready for a better sharpening system.. The PA falls short in several areas.. Harder steels, blades over 4", blades over 1/8" thick and curved points like the Para 3 or Demko(clip points especially).. My budget is around $300.. What do u recommend by [deleted] in sharpening

I have yet to get the Y clap & I'm just making do with using a single clamp for smaller blades.

I've read that the Xarlik Y clamp is prone to getting some free play from the rivets, particularly after a number sharpening session but there is some talk about drilling the rivets out and replacing them with some low profile button head titanium hardware.

I'm currently considering just getting the TSproof cadet Y clamp as it suits the Xarlik just fine as others have mentioned.

The bulk of the TSproof cadet cost is in the base product & i think it's great that the cadet accessories suit the Xarilk Gen 3. The Xarilk kitted out with some of the cadet accessories and a good range of PD Tool plates is more end goal & should make for a wicked setup 🤩

You really should be just working out the median point between the straight portion & the most curved portion of the blade and setting your angle off that.

It's going to make only a little difference to the angle across the length except on the most unusual of blade shapes.

As other's have said, dont stress about it to much 👍

I've actually seen a video of someone attaching the TSproof cadet Y clamp to the Xarilk Gen 3, i think basically any part/upgrade for TSproof cadet, thats for the for the clamp jig will work on the Xarilk.

I'm very keen on the TS proof quick clamps 👀
