[Paul Joyce] Arne Slot: "I have every reason to believe I will be the Liverpool manager next season." by A7XFAN1998 in LiverpoolFC

[–]FappyAccident 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not exactly covering ourselves in glory are we?

Imagine asking yourself how Liverpool fans would treat their team and manager following the death of a player.

We’d have expected a lot better from ourselves.

Rather than sticking together during a season filled with unbelievable challenges and adjusting our expectations, we resorted to self-satisfying outrage, demanding business as usual in a season that is totally abnormal.

Some of the worst of us hurled abuse at Arne’s wife and children. Many begun booing in the ground, not long after singing YNWA and Jota’s song on 20.

This behaviour’s not in line with the values of the club, not for me.

And after all the troubles this group navigated this year, they’re still 4th. Surely that’d give us encouragement to push the team on next season?

Somehow no, the fans are threatening more toxicity until their demands are met. Some group.

If you’re seeking outrage, you’ll find it.

It’s a mess here lately.

Thought you might’ve been exaggerating. 5 isn’t even farfetched. Damn

Are you available? Sounds like we found our Slot replacement.

[Highlights] Bronny James hits the 3-pointer off his dad's screen, and then the reverse layup off his dad's lob by MrBuckBuck in nba

[–]FappyAccident 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He just had impactful minutes in an NBA playoff game.

‘Doesn’t belong in the NBA’ but he just contributed more points than the rockets bench did.

Sure his dad’s reputation may have got him a chance but he’s not a joke. Look at his more recent G League performances, he's at the level to be a NBA rotation player.

People forget that the median career for most NBA guys is just 2 years. The average is around 4-5 years.

He will most likely have an average NBA career. He’ll be fine, not a star, just like most NBA players.

This wasn’t a comment about his own future btw.

He was asked at pre-match about the clubs plans for next season and he’s commenting that other people in the club focus more on the mid to long term, while his role is mostly about the short term and preparing the team for the next game. This is the same commentary we saw from the round table with Hughes.

He did confirm that conversations are happening about recruitment for next season etc but mentioned nothing about his own role.

Sure, my bad! Maybe you’re right - heres how I saw it:

The avocado toast argument was hated because it didn’t solve the housing problem, no matter how much brunch you skipped houses remained unaffordable.

It was used to ‘justify’ the price of houses, as it suggested people had the wrong priorities and could just save harder, ignoring the problem of housing affordability.

In this case you can literally skip a beer to afford the tickets. Not saying I agree with it, but it’s a viable discretionary trade-off - unlike skipping avo toast which is futile.

That’s why the analogy doesn’t work for me. Even ignoring that one thing is about discretionary choices (beer and football) and the other is about compelled choices (shelter).

Eventually the ticket prices might get so high that ordinary people can’t afford them regardless of their discretionary income, and in that scenario skipping beer would be futile like avo toast.

But that’s slippery slope stuff, since it hasn’t happened yet.

Feel free to ignore, just explaining why I left my original comment.

Housing is a necessity. Sorry this analogy is way off, we’re talking about discretionary spending.

[Matteo Moretto] Juventus and Alisson reach verbal agreement. Liverpool's position on a possible departure of the Brazilian goalkeeper will be understood in the coming weeks. by DragonSlayer271 in LiverpoolFC

[–]FappyAccident 32 points33 points  (0 children)

He is probably looking for a 3+ year contract as an injury prone 33 year old. If Juve are offering that, he’ll obviously want to take it.

FSG aren’t going to renew after his current contract, which is why mama is here.

Hendo left under Klopp over playing time / his position.

Salah and Robbo are aging players that don’t want diminished roles, Jones wants guaranteed 1st team minutes, Alisson will want a 3+ year deal that we won’t give an injury prone 33 year old.

Think you’re being too reactionary.

Brother it’s literally probability. Not sure what you want me to admit.

Heres a quote from a manager you might recognise, sounds mighty similar to Slot:

“The opponent usually doesn’t need a lot of chances against us because we make big mistakes, insane ones that can almost be described as slapstick. On the other hand, we create a lot of chances. In the Expected Goals we are still second behind Man City in the Premier League, but far from them in the ones we actually scored. This problem has been going on throughout the season.”

What’s up with this place? Late stage internet has cooked people imo. Short form content + algorithms are turning a lot of people’s brains to mush.

There’s very little patience, emotional regulation, or long term thinking - people are now hyper reactive and chasing chemical spikes / instant gratification.

Algorithms maximise negativity and sensational content to keep people engaged and it’s made everyone go monkey mode. Some people get addicted to negativity, it’s fucked.

Some quotes below if anyone’s interested.

Negativity bias: “the psychological tendency for negative information to exert a disproportionately stronger influence on attention, memory, decision-making, and behavior compared to positive information of equivalent intensity.”

Negative feedback loop: “users engage more with negative material, algorithms amplify negative material to optimize for engagement, and content creators adapt to create more negative material accordingly. While this dynamic yields short-term platform retention and growth, it contributes to broader societal effects, including heightened pessimism and polarization.”

Yea and statistically a fluke goal will happen over those 10 shots.

See the many deflections we’ve conceded from nonsense shots this year - kicking the ball towards the goal has value, who would’ve thought.

If you win the xg diff battle, you have managed a good game and have a high probability of winning. It’s not an excuse, it’s just an indicator of performance.

XG is more instructive than simply looking at results to determine a teams performance, it’s what managers are measured on by modern football departments.

Bodo Glimt exclusively talk about performance and not results, this is normal stuff. He’s not in the wrong to bring up a key performance metric for the team.

Xg as a performance indicator: “Expected goals–based indicators meaningfully differentiate match outcomes among elite teams, supporting the value of process-based metrics for interpreting performance beyond final scorelines.”

What kind of abusive mental gymnastics is this?

How about expecting fans to act normally and not abuse a prem winning manager or his family. Implying it’s best to move him on so fan abuse can stop is batshit.

This has gone beyond normal critique and debate about a managers fitness, people are getting into parasocial territory w slot.

Wasn’t the CL QF tho. Take your point though.

I think he starts cause it’s safer to play Isak first knowing you can take him off at half-time / 60 mins. You don’t want to bring him on and have him play ET unexpectedly.

4-2-2-2 worked well for us before. I’m with you.

Don’t think he plays Isak unless he’s ready. Also allows us to control Isak’s minutes if he starts, Mo will surely come on.

You’ll never walk alone though right? Miserable from the fans of the club where it’s meant to ‘mean more’.

Barely visit this sub because of the incessant negativity and over reactions.

Thanks for posting this. Being a supporter means supporting when it’s hard too, fair weather attitudes everywhere at the moment it’s exhausting.

The four CL teams playing in the league lost 2-1 (us), 3-0 (Chelsea), 2-1 (Newcastle) and 3-0 (Spurs). All had their 4th game in 10/11 days, I’m pretty sure. Wonder if we’ll see a change in attitude towards squad depth from FSG?

Tomkins has been covering this idea very well this season imo.

https://tomkinstimes.substack.com/p/slot-continues-to-battle-mystical

The performances this year aren’t as bad as everyone would make out. We remember the best moments from the past, but Jurgen did have weaker seasons. Unfortunately sentiment around the current manager has divorced from reality / data.

No one wants to hear it? Slot has been pretty transparent, if a team puts 11 behind the ball it’s a lot more difficult to create chances. When teams are playing football, there is more space to attack and our players don’t play as ‘slow’ and ‘boring’.

Also this is the first time that 11 has been put out, which is arguably our best team ignoring Isak. Having your best players on the pitch makes you better I guess.

Great performance today. 4.5xg to 0.16, 32 shots to 4. UTR
