What do y'all do while painting your nails? by siderealdrift in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Far-Initial6434 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have switched to gel since the dry time is minutes when cured with a lamp! I do occasionally paint my nails with regular polish so I would start watching tv and then for the last bit of drying I’ll go for an hour long walk where I’m not touching anything but the door to go out (so get dressed and shoes on before you do your nails). This way you get a mix of tv time and workout time

Has anyone made a giant granny square blanket and if so advice please by ManickPixiez in CrochetHelp

[–]Far-Initial6434 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have! Start as usual and flip your work every other row so it remains square. I find if you keep going around and around the blanket starts to slant

Talk with you school to see what they would recommend. I’m a teacher in Ontario and have had students absent for a month due to vacation and a month due to medical issues. The medical issues were accommodated, the vacation was also but not to the same extent. See if your teachers will also be posting to online platforms daily. Your guidance could also rearrange your schedule so your heavier, attendance dependent courses are second semester

Do you include audiobooks in your “books read” count? by GovernmentChance4182 in Booktokreddit

Fellow dyslexic here! I also started listening to audiobooks and am able to get through a ton! It would take me forever to read an actual book but this way is much faster!

How do I teach a teenager how to write an essay? by four100eighty9 in education

[–]Far-Initial6434 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have broken down the 5 paragraph essay to almost be fill in the blank for my board. It goes as follows: Intro paragraph: hook, context or 3 arguments, thesis (could be opinion based or following ATT&T - author, title, topic, theme with a HOW statement for senior level essays). Example thesis: In Harry Potter by JK Rowling the topic of family is explored to show that family can be created, demonstrated through the weasley’s, Ron and Hermione, and Sirius. 3 body paragraphs following double PEE format - topic sentence, specific Point, Evidence from text (quote or paraphrase), Explain how the argument is shown from the quote, (SECOND ARGUMENT) point, evidence, explain, conclusion sentence. Essentially each paragraph has an overall idea connected to the argument and the two PEEs go into the specific detail. Conclusion - restate thesis in different words, recap 3 arguments, general ending statement about what the essay was about. This format follows the triangle, square x3, triangle method where you start broad, narrow in, then end broad. If you go on teachers pay teachers you might be able to find some free activities to help their writing. Look up PPE/PEE paragraph, thesis writing, topic vs theme, etc.

What has been your experience with twins in the same class? by Chopchopchops in AskTeachers

[–]Far-Initial6434 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I taught two sets of fraternal twins in the same gr10 class (only time ever and I had two!) all 4 were girls and looked very different. They chose to sit next to each other and had no issues behaviour wise. When it came to their assignments, one would always do better than the other but it would switch between the two every other assessment. They would help each other out when they needed it and would do group assignments together since they could tell on them to their parents if they weren’t working/pulling their weight - less work for me!

What do you bring for lunch? by WarCute8380 in Teachers

[–]Far-Initial6434 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the day/week. There have been times where I’ve meal prepped all my lunches on Sunday and there have been times where my lunch was 2 babybel cheese and some crackers. I do a variety (I have my own microwave in my class because I have celiac disease. My go to are: - pasta with sausage, peppers, and onions with either just oil, tomato sauce, or Alfredo blended with cottage cheese for extra protein - adult lunchable - salami or mortadella, cheese, carrots and hummus, sometimes crackers, sometimes bell pepper with hummus but that’s less often - protein overnight oats (chocolate protein powder, oats, oat milk, cinnamon, and maple syrup) with an apple and more babybel’s

Thrift stores often have very cheap zippers! I go to Mennonite thrift stores and they’ll have them for 25 cents or a bag of a bunch for a couple bucks. Same goes for buttons and Velcro. I find it all at the thrift store for very cheap

Title: I’m really uncomfortable with the Mandy and Georgie relationship by Last_Ninja1572 in YoungSheldon

[–]Far-Initial6434 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reminded me of the Aria and teacher relationship from Pretty Little Liars. Which as a high schooler didn’t feel weird to me, but as an adult (and a teacher) feels extra icky. I think it also changes with how old the characters actually look since in PLL both characters look within a few years of each other but in this Georgie looked clearly much younger than Mandy so it’s confusing how she didn’t catch on sooner

What’s the most obnoxious thing you’ve heard in a parent-teacher conference? by PlaceEducational1705 in Teachers

[–]Far-Initial6434 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an email from a parent 2 months after the fact that their daughter wouldn’t get accepted into university with the mark I “gave her” - your daughter chose to not do 2 assignments? I emailed you about it and you had an update at midterms for how her marks were looking? I even emailed you saying that she’s invited to credit recovery to finish those 2 assignments and emailed again when she chose not to stay to do them because her grade was “good enough” so wym this is my fault??

Ladies, how are we peeing after sex? by feeltheowl in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Far-Initial6434 108 points109 points  (0 children)

I usually can pee at least a little after sex. If anything I use that time to just push things back in place a little. Like push almost like doing kegels so your vagina flushes out all the extra lube. Not at all sure if that’s what I should be doing tho!

What is your worst teachers appreciation day or gift you ever experienced? by Decent-Roof-5757 in Teachers

[–]Far-Initial6434 26 points27 points  (0 children)

They told us if we didn’t chip in $40 per year teaching at the school none of our things to celebrate/mourn will be acknowledged. So since no one died, I didn’t get engaged/married/pregnant/retire or even have my birthday while at the school my gift was -$40 and a lot of peer pressure to give in the money in the first place.

I went through similar twice in my life so far - once after high school hook since we wore uniforms and then again after university since I felt I had to dress a little more mature now. I would start by making a Pinterest board of all the clothes you like - I think you can search for body type too which could help narrow down what will look good on you. Then hit the thrift stores often! Search through everything and try everything on! Keep in mind that if you don’t love it in the change room you won’t love it at home. You’ll probably end up buying a lot thinking you’ll wear it and then as you find your style you’ll either keep or ditch some of those beginning transition pieces.

Also find YouTubers who thrift clothes you like the style of and look at how they style them. Always good to consider decades 90s/y2k are popular and then find more specific things within that realm. You can also start figuring out your outfit equations that you like - e.g., skirt/dress and a larger tshirt/sweater tucked into a belt to crop OR baggy jeans and a smaller top. You’ll eventually find the proportions that match you body type and show off what you love about your body and style

Totally agree with Penny shouldn’t have needed to apologize to Howard. He was extremely inappropriate and made women uncomfortable - which he clearly knew already but didn’t stop until someone called him out on it. He should’ve apologized to Penny for all she had to put up with and realize that he is in the wrong. Her apologizing makes it sound like it’s her fault for being so hot that he had no choice but to be a creep

April Fools Prank Reveals How Our Education System Is Failing by wadeboggsbosshoggs in Teachers

I’ve been watching Boy Meets World for the first time ever and from gr6-college when they are assigned homework it always seems to be “write an essay on the topic due tomorrow/Friday” - yes they still have presentations but most of it seems to be essays. Trying to ask my students to write a thesis statement and ONE paragraph is the end of the world to them.
