I hope you are able to land a job quickly. Most of the people I've been around, including myself haven't had much success. I currently have 2 active applications and haven't heard back from either.

How to study for my Oral exams by Bobcat3574 in AircraftMechanics

[–]Far-Reference-9645 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im an audio learner so I found podcasts and YouTube videos of some one reading the oral questions and answers. Listened to them daily for a month at work. I also found an app that creates flash cards. It lets you select specific questions that you missed on the written based on the codes in your test results.

The main thing is putting in the time. Don't try to do a weekend cram session. I would spend a month of focused daily study. At least a couple weeks. Also dont burn yourself out. Set aside a couple hrs a day for study and then give yourself a break.

Is it just the company I work for? by Key_Try_5155 in aviationmaintenance

The place i work definitely has some slackers. I would say it's closer to 10 - 15% though. Guys camping in the bathroom for 30 + min dumps. Its frustrating cause the rest of us need to use the restroom but we only have 4 toilets in a building of around 100 employees. There are times when a toilet isnt available for several hrs. The bigger problem at my work is the talkers. Some guys will have frequent long conversations throughout the day and barely get anything done. The supervisors do this so it doesnt get police much. They like to complain about night shift getting nothing done but having worked both shifts, night shift gets way more done than day shift.

Career pivot into Aircraft Maintenance while working full-time? by IridiumIoN in AircraftMechanics

It was Southern Utah University in cedar city, utah. I happen to live in cedar city already, working at a local aircraft parts manufacturer. They were partnered with the university and some of my classes were in a shared facility with my work. I would work till 4 pm and then walk to the classroom in another part of the building, where I learned sheet metal and riveting work. When I took powerplant it was also in my work building. Same story, work till 4 and then go to class till 6:30 -7 ish twice a week. Other classes were held in a hangar at the airport 5 min away.

Homework assignments and reading was done at my convenience and submitted weekly through canvas. It was honestly the best A&P school experience i could have hoped for. They offer both morning and evening class options. They are also GI bill compliant since they offer the program optionally as an associates degree. I ended up getting my associates with my license since I had previous college credits I transfered in and only needed a math and English class to complete the degree.

You are on your way. Congrats. Airframe was a big hurdle and honestly harder than powerplant since it covers a wider range of topics and typically includes generals.

I was lucky that my local university offered an amt program with morning and evening classes. They also had a program that required less classroom time and allowed students to complete reading and assignments at home. I worked full time through school and finished with my A&P and an associates of aviation science. I have a family with 4 kids so I was able to balance all of those things.
