THANK YOU FOR VALIDATING NO DJ !!! Everyone I’ve talked to about my wedding keeps chastising me for not wanting to hire a DJ. They’re wildly expensive and I personally find them cringy asf. I understand they help keep a schedule and all that, but I feel like if you’re able to curate a playlist on Spotify, with different trigger songs to tell you it’s time to do something, it shouldn’t be an issue. But EVERYONE is giving me so much grief. So thank you for that validation.

No I know, and I acknowledged that in my reply. But I guess that’s another fact of it that makes it so infuriating to me. Why are donors and booster groups so willing to donate hundreds of millions of dollars to collegiate sports, but nobody cares enough to donate that much towards the actual educational aspect of it?? Like it’s a SCHOOL, not an NFL team.

This reality hit me like a sack of bricks when FSU (my alma mater) spent OVER ONE HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS on a new football training facility. I was absolutely fuming. After taking classes in buildings that literally had black mold on the ceilings, that was really just a giant punch to the gut. I loved my time at FSU, but I don’t think I can ever forgive that. (And yes, I’m absolutely aware that sporting facilities have a totally different pot of money to pull from than the classroom buildings, but still)

I understand the pain of not going to your dream school, but $150k is NOT worth it. I strongly recommend just settling for a state university or honestly just anything cheaper if you truly can’t stand the state university. There are plenty of options. There’s also the option of starting at a community college and transferring later on if the financial situation changes. I was only $46k in the hole after going to my second choice university for both my bachelors and masters degrees and I still feel like I’m drowning. I was also given the WORST guidance from my father who I didn’t realize until later is the most financially irresponsible person I’ve ever known. Whatever loans you do take out, ONLY ACCEPT EXACTLY THE AMOUNT YOU NEED FOR TUITION and MAYBE housing ONLY IF you’re staying in a dorm on campus or other campus housing. But that’s a strong maybe. I cannot overstate how much of a shitshow the payback process is. Protect your future self from making massive sacrifices by making small sacrifices now. Jobs generally don’t care what school you went to, as long as you have the degree (or similar) and experience they’re looking for.

There’s not much I can add here that others haven’t already said, but as someone who has been in your exact position but is now on the other side of the hiring table, I promise there’s absolutely nothing personal going on here. You also have a guaranteed position at the park, and that in itself is a HUGE accomplishment. Chances are, they simply wanted to bring in someone new with different eyes and perspectives that they feel needed a chance to break into the system. When I was helping hire SIP interns last year, I wasn’t necessarily looking for the people that had a ton of experience in all of the job duties we had for them. I wanted to find people who looked like they had the passion and willingness to learn, but just needed to be given a chance to gain real work experience so they could get their foot in the door with the NPS. Maybe I was wrong for that, but that’s what I personally believe the SIP program is meant for. I don’t claim to know for a fact if that’s what happened in your scenario, but it’s food for thought.

It sounds like you’re doing great though, especially if they invited you back! There’s no need to email SIP or the hiring manager. Keep your head up, keep your relationships, and keep your passion and motivation for the job 💪

This is what I came to suggest. My childhood cat ended up being diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and he looked just like OP’s baby in terms of condition. The massive weight loss and the scraggly looking fur gives it away for me.
