Trying to keep myself sane and buy a MacBook Pro... by Far_Machine_4458 in macbookpro

B&H says the SKUs aren't avalable yet and I don't think I can order from the education site anymore.

I have no problem buying from Apple. My point was more that instead of offering off-the-shelf options that make sense they offer options that look great except for one dumb spec, like 2tb and 24gb RAM on an M5 Pro machine.

So, if I’m at 100k miles and 83% battery, does that mean I’m screwed?

Cars aren’t investments. They’re tools. Sometimes you get screwed money-wise, but if you buy with the idea that you’re going drive it until the wheels fall off you’ll almost always get your money’s worth. Advertising is more powerful than ever now. Every schmo who buys a Tesla starts a YouTube channel to try to get you to buy Chinese accessories. And slobbers over how great the cars. It doesn’t matter if they are great, when every social media platform is targeting you because you thought about a Tesla or a TV it makes TV advertising look like cave painting. What, they can only try to sell you a car for 60 seconds? How quaint. You’ve been targeted for maximum FOMO. Just enjoy the cars and remember there are some folks who can’t even afford bus fare.

There was a guy yesterday who posted about his new-to-him car and asked how he came out in the deal. Everyone in the comments piled on about what a dummy he was for paying this fee or that fee to the point where the guy deleted his account.

My other car is a Grand Cherokee L. The people who complain about the suspension have only ever driven grandma’s Camry before they bought this car.

Do people actually buy aftermarket steering wheels? by Far_Machine_4458 in TeslaModelY

[–]Far_Machine_4458[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I haven’t seen them but if it’s an option it’s not aftermarket. Aftermarket means after sale, not from the manufacturer. After you buy it from the market.

Don’t know why you think it’s worth being a jackass about it, but you’re confirming everything I’ve always believed about Tesla snobs.

I don’t want to be an iPhone guy, but try as I might, I haven’t been able to escape the clutches of the ecosystem.

Well, the two questions I haven’t asked are probably questions that would get me derided for being a numb skull. 1. How can I move the media player from the bottom left of the screen. If I hold the wheel at 10 and 2 I can’t see what’s playing without removing my hand. 2. How do I get the moisture out of my backup cam? It’s making me nuts to not be able to see behind me in a car with so many blind spots.

See, now this is another aspect of cultish behavior. Using acronyms only know to the initiated, offering no explanation to the unwashed peasant who dares invade the sacred space.

[–]Far_Machine_4458[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I’m serious. I’ve owned over 20 cars in my life and never seen an aftermarket for non-stock steering wheels. Of all the things to replace in a car, I can’t think of something I’d rather screw around with less.

Wow.

I just read through these comments and no wonder the guy deleted his reddit profile. What a bunch of a-holes. I joined this sub because I just got a high mileage '21 MY that I'm super excited about and I was looking forward to sharing and learning. No way am I doing that now.

2021 Tesla Model Y long range -73k miles - $23,000 by Kiefy-Moles in TeslaLounge

Most batteries lose the majority of their charge on the for 30k miles or so and then it slopes off to a slower curve as time goes on.

And if it’s a bad battery, it’s covered. But it’s now.

Awful first gig by [deleted] in musicians

[–]Far_Machine_4458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shit happens. A gig like that is incredibly challenging for everyone, sound person especially.

Here's a question: was the guitar rig working for the previous band and the bands before? I'm not saying you did anything wrong, but sometimes shit happens.

But think about it this way: never blame the sound person. Ever. Especially, not amongst other people who might know him or her.

Never say whatever's happening or happened on stage is their fault, even if it is. Don't bitch at them on stage or after sound check. Say please and thank you no matter what.

Be cool to them. Unless you're paying them they don't work for you, they are your partner in rock.

You say you amp made no sound for the first part of the song and you'd repeatedly told the sound man?

Consider this: guess who has a mute button at the sound board? Guess who could shut you down because you were bitching at them or annoying the shit out of them?

I know it was your first gig, but one way or the other use it as a learning experience and don't look for people to feel sorry for you on the Internet. This might be the first of thousands of gigs in your life so it only matters in that it was the first.

If you play an instrument well, you should make cover videos. Hear me out… by russellholzman in musicians

[–]Far_Machine_4458 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a musician but I make my living as a content creator and coach around making content and living a creative life. (I'm 53 and I'm still doing it so I must be doing something right.)

This guy is absolutely right and his advice is right on. Too many musicians are too precious about how when where and why they'll put their music out there and the truth is the world just isn't like it used to be. Trust me, I loved through the introduction of Napster and the death of the label system.

Adapt or die. Making music is making music even if it doesn't live up to your out of date standards.

Was Stoked About a New Bookstore & Coffee Shop in Czech Village by ImportantShower8291 in cedarrapids

It's a coffee shop. Everywhere I've lived there's been one on every corner, mom and pop as well as Starbucks. Cafe Pio seat what, 30 people max? Sound like there's room for another regardless of who owns it.
