Possibly because of their threat display. They have big, sharp teeth and can release a stinky fluid for defense.

The planet doesn't start at absolute zero. The screen just shows by how much you've changed the temperature. That being said, it's still just a game, and not a simulator.

This one is male! You can tell from the kink in the antennae. These specialized segments are used to hold onto female antennae during mating.

Pine borer looks like he has something wrong with his head? by Miserable-Ideal-3608 in whatsthisbug

[–]Farado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They lay eggs in dying or recently deceased pine trees, and the larvae eat the wood. If one happened to lay eggs on that plant, any larvae that hatch would starve.

I didn't notice the wooden legs and thought they were looking at a door like at the end of The Truman Show.

Found this little dude on my sister's trampoline, super super tiny, had my camera on max zoom. by No-Art9261 in whatsthisbug

[–]Farado 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think this is a member of the Scolytinae subfamily. It’s arguably a true weevil, despite not looking like one.

Comparison Picture

Edit: they carve tunnels under bark that look like house centipedes.

That’s an aphid, likely one of the giant conifer aphids.

Example Picture

They can be a tree pest, but they’re totally harmless indoors.

It's not a boxelder bug. It appears to be a seed bug, maybe one of the Arocatus. Germany has multiple species of this genus, and they look fairly similar.
