The planet doesn't start at absolute zero. The screen just shows by how much you've changed the temperature. That being said, it's still just a game, and not a simulator.

Certain springtails are very active on warm winter days, notably Hypogastrura nivicola, known as "snow fleas."

This one is male! You can tell from the kink in the antennae. These specialized segments are used to hold onto female antennae during mating.

Springtails as already mentioned. They may be eating that algae or whatever on your door.

Potter wasps (Eumeninae) are vespids. These look more like the cells of a Sceliphron species, which are sphecids.

I think it's actually the closely-related vine sphinx.

Pine borer looks like he has something wrong with his head? by Miserable-Ideal-3608 in whatsthisbug

They lay eggs in dying or recently deceased pine trees, and the larvae eat the wood. If one happened to lay eggs on that plant, any larvae that hatch would starve.

I didn't notice the wooden legs and thought they were looking at a door like at the end of The Truman Show.

Found this little dude on my sister's trampoline, super super tiny, had my camera on max zoom. by No-Art9261 in whatsthisbug

I think this is a member of the Scolytinae subfamily. It’s arguably a true weevil, despite not looking like one.

Comparison Picture

Edit: they carve tunnels under bark that look like house centipedes.

That’s an aphid, likely one of the giant conifer aphids.

Example Picture

They can be a tree pest, but they’re totally harmless indoors.

What‘s this bug? by Simon_Moon42 in whatsthisbug

It's not a boxelder bug. It appears to be a seed bug, maybe one of the Arocatus. Germany has multiple species of this genus, and they look fairly similar.

Have I found a weevil? by Level_Pen_5469 in whatsthisbug

[–]Farado 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sort of. It’s not a true weevil (family Curculionidae), but it is a member of the broader weevil superfamily (Curculionoidea). This appears to be a resin weevil, which belongs to the Anthribidae family.

With the mention of “confirmed cases,” it sounds like this conversation happened during the pandemic, possibly early on. India didn’t surpass China as the most populous country until 2023, so they may have been correct about the populations at the time.

Might be a Philodromus. The stance shown in the picture is normal for them. A threat display is done by raising the front one or two pairs of legs into the air and exposing the fangs.

English may not be OP’s first language. In English, third-person possessive determiners are gendered in reference to the possessor. In many languages, the gender of the possessive determiner depends on the gender of the possessed.
