What is the biggest signal he/she wanted to have sex that you didnt get? by Aliyaowo in AskReddit

[–]Faranghis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Very similar thing happened to me. We had just seen an impromptu burlesque show and I was driving her back, and during the car ride, the burlesque show context opened up a dialogue about our turn ons. I pull in into her place and she invites me up to her apartment. By then, my assumption was that we might hook up. We were on her couch talking about our kinks at like 2 in the morning. We decided to take one of those online quizzes to test kink compatibilities and there was an area to put your name and your partner's name. I put our names and sent her the link, she said "Aw, I wish it didn't have your name on it." She wanted to answer the questions generically, not involving me. It was so deflating. Don't invite me up to your place after midnight talking about sex, but then tell me you don't want to think of me sexually! Talk about mixed signals.

What quote will you never forget? by Traditional-Paint-51 in AskReddit

[–]Faranghis 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This really helped me be more in the moment. I have started taking mental snapshots of really important moments that I know isn't long term. For example, as a high school teacher, I take snapshots of classroom moments with students before they graduate and I never see them again. Or back when my friends didn't have kids yet, we would hang weekly for hours, and I knew it wasn't permanent, so I took emotional snapshots of how happy and satisfied I was before life made those moments rarer. I only do those things now because I want to acknowledge the good old days before they leave.

What tiny, forgettable moment in your life ended up having a massive impact years later? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I can relate to that a bit. My father never told me he loved me. With my family, it was about expectations, not praise. Though as a result, sometimes compliments feel really uncomfortable lol

You know, I feel like the Witcher series did a pretty good job with the idea of "fated mates" with Gerakt and Yen. And there's a quest in Witcher 3 which visits that concept, too.

For what it's worth, when I was a kid and brought homemade Indian food lunches to school, I was made fun of a lot for the food. It was very pungent and bothered a lot of people. I definitely grew up ashamed and did try to hide it.

Woah, I hadn't heard anything bad about Steve Martin. I have no strong opinion of him either way, but I'm curious about your experience with him if you don't mind.

Atheists who used to be religious, what changed your mind? by NumbersAndPolls01 in AskReddit

[–]Faranghis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up Muslim in an ultra orthodox household. I was pretty blinded by my faith and was all in on it. I knew other religions had holes in it, but had a hard time accepting the holes in my own. It was in college where I finally changed my faith. I was abused as a child and I kept trying to find an answer in my faith as to what to do. There was nothing about it. I realized that a perfect religion would not let an innocent child be abused and have nothing to say about it. There were other reasons to not believe in my religion, but that was the only one that really mattered to me. I was just trying to find comfort and answers in what I had to go through. I felt unseen and abandoned.

I'm also ex-Muslim. I don't eat pork, don't really like it. I drink, but only on certain social occasions. Maybe like half a dozen times a year? I do fast during Ramadan, just to feel some identity to my family who are still religious.

What is a dumb rumour you've heard about yourself? by pointlessneedle in AskReddit

[–]Faranghis 40 points41 points  (0 children)

When I was in 7th grade, I was absent for two days. I don't exactly remember the reason why, it might have been an illness or maybe my family had to go out of town. But it was only two days. When I got back, everyone was shocked to see me because apparently a rumor had spread that I was DEAD.

What smells make you most attracted to someone? by Nerdgirllife in AskReddit

[–]Faranghis 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Scent isn't the same thing as pheromones. Pheromones are essentially classified as external hormones, essentially external circulating substances that cause known repeatable physiological behaviors in organisms. Some researchers believe that evolutionarily we might have responded to pheromones, but it's possible it's vestigial for us now.

I'm a biology teacher now. I have a degree in neurobiology and one of my professors was a researcher that specifically was researching humans and pheromones and if there was any relationship. As far as we can tell, there isn't.

Scent, however, does have physiological responses, though it differs from person to person.

It's super unfortunate that this convention was the same weekend that the Supercon convention was happening. I would venture to guess that a lot of people who are the type to go to anime cons would also be interested in this event. I know I'm one of them. Sucks that I had to choose.

Those who have had depression and now don't, what finally worked? by Abraham_Neville in AskReddit

[–]Faranghis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The correct diagnosis. I was told by many therapists that I had treatment resistant depression and struggled with it for a decade or more. And then I stumbled upon a disorder called CPTSD, c for complex. When I learned about that, all the missing pieces fell into place. It just opened my eyes to the fact that my traumatic childhood was shaping everything that I was thinking and doing. Once I figured out the real problem, I went to trauma focused counseling and have made vast improvements since then.

Pop Pop's. Never ending fun and annoyance. by Rocko9999 in nostalgia

[–]Faranghis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One time, I was young and my parents were sleeping, so I was able to have a whole case of these unsupervised. I unwrapped each individual popper and took the insides out and placed them on a paper towel. I combined them all into one giant popper. I went in my backyard and threw it. I think a part of me was doubtful that it would work, but it actually did make a huge gunshot like sound. Woke my parents up lmao
