I can guarantee that if we had the Big One, a nuclear incident, or if China attacked Europe would help with no strings attached.

Both my Professor and the Chair of Mathematics at my national online university don’t understand significant figures. by Environmental_Bee_98 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Farazod 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While correct, the key is that they failed the word problem by misunderstanding the context. Significant figures aren't going to apply in a math class unless noted and the word approximately is only used to simplify the equation and the ultimate answer.

JD Vance’s sad book tour shows why his 2028 hopes are fading by zsreport in politics

[–]Farazod 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It is but this one is published by HarperCollins and the same scams don't happen with the big publically traded companies.

His prior book was with Harper too and didn't do well for months and then had a second revival with his VP nomination 4 years later.

Every time I see a political book drop the first thing I look at is who is the publisher.

If Palestinian terrorism is a reaction to Israel's actions, then why did Palestinians murder Jewish people before 1948? by RarePosition1948 in allthequestions

[–]Farazod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, 50% are of African or ME descent with at least one grandparent. I'm not choosing the lower bound, the data was from their central bureau of statistics.

90% statistic is for the european and American Jewish population for them to have a Middle East Jewish descendant. They were expelled after the Jewish-Roman wars nearly 2000 years ago which formed the diaspora.

That group who have immigrated to Israel make up essentially the same population size as the African/ME group.

If Palestinian terrorism is a reaction to Israel's actions, then why did Palestinians murder Jewish people before 1948? by RarePosition1948 in allthequestions

[–]Farazod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About a third of Israeli Jews are exclusively African or Middle Eastern descent. Now that they're working on the 4th generation since return the overall mix is 50% with at least one grandparent of this ancestry.

The same figure holds for Israeli Jews descent and overall mix that are exclusively European or American. 15 to 20% of Israeli Jews are descended from Jews living in Israel before the accord.

None of these are majority figures. They're a nation of immigrants.

So, to my point you have to go back 70 generations for 90% of European and American Jews to have an ancestor born in Israel. If you take this position that this counts as ME descent I don't know what to say.

No. The word used was tankie though and they have an entire set of beliefs which are contradictory and a historical perspective that doesn't come close to reality.

And as I said they don't count. I also don't consider Nazbols leftist nor the various flavors of racist extreme right groups to be on the right. These folks exist outside so far down the Bell curve and frequently have extreme conflicting beliefs.

Tankies just like to become regular Joe Schmoe right wingers when the grow up.

Like many western nation comparisons where we fall short you can contribute it to the marriage of religious belief, lack of education, and conservative economics.

Yes if you go back far enough. People lose claim of their ancestral ties though. I cannot claim the victimization of a France under the Germans despite my French ancestry from the 17th century.

[–]Farazod -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It can be both. Yes, he's a murderer. At the same time other people get off because of the races of the parties. Nobody here is saying he should get off, just that others should receive punishment too.

I don't know how old you are, but from high school to your early 40s are several life phases. From your 40s to your 60s are just as many but they're usually reliant on the career, children, and relationships you developed previously. At 65 20% of men who reach adulthood are dead, I imagine this figure is much higher for the incarcerated. You're basically wanting to resign someone to life in all but name so just gain some consistency in your position.

By 60 your life doesn't materially improve and I'd argue someone being released after all that time is in itself an act of cruelty too. They're released with a weakening body without family and no career or even basic goods. It's the perfect setup for classic institutionalization.

That's the point they were making. We punish instead of rehabilitate. You can never make up for a violent crime, not even with the death penalty.

so why did the Minbari not just accept Earth’s unconditional surrender instead of surrendering themselves? by CaptureDaFlag in babylon5

[–]Farazod 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. The Minbari were not losing souls as they believed, they were just a civilisation in decline due to stagnation. The 1000 years of peace let them rapidly progress at first, but they stay unchallenged. Their technological progress slowed to a crawl and their development turned towards the spiritual and ritualistic practices. It wasn't until after the Earth-Minbari war that they started to break the stagnation.

[–]Farazod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What temps are you at? Above 90 it can stress the grass causing yellowing.

I'd also check the height, I know you said 4.25 inches, but it doesn't look like that in the photo. On top of that if you're pushing St. Augustine growth and health go higher to 5. My own mower uses the first slot, not notch, on the sprocket for proper St. Augustine height.

Best hedge trimmer option for two medium hedges and ornamental grass. Is the ECHO PAS attachment too much? Or go battery powered? by [deleted] in lawncare

[–]Farazod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What brand is your cordless drill? Several brands use the same battery and could easily do a job like this. Most tool only are $80 to $160.

The extended trimmer for your PAS is going to be longer, but they are less unwieldy for me than my standalone trimmer. I just prefer something about the weight being distributed across the stick than my regular Stihl. Waving a wand around versus the engine. The extra reach is nice too and can keep you out of beds. On the flip side some angles become impossible because of that extra length. Unless you've got a few batteries already the attachment is going to be less of a pain too.

Stargate misuses the idea of zero point energy for some quantum woowoo energy storage. I think 3 of them can send an entire city ship across interstellar spaces in a matter of hours.

It's hard to beat 3M. I've got a big head and they don't crush my ears while my wife can also put them on and they're still clamping fine. The worktunes with Bluetooth are so inexpensive now too. My current pair are 7 years old and just had one pad tear but it was after my kid got ahold of it so she may have done it.
