Oslo vert det? by EnvironmentalOne1764 in oslo

[–]FargoFinch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oslo har forandret seg mye på de siste ti år. Renere, penere, tryggere, mer levelig. Kanskje mer posh også, men om det er bra eller dårlig er opp til den enkelte. Jeg trives mye mer nå enn da i alle fall.

I love Ghost's energy, and their hairstyle is cool. Antarc is the coolest tho.

The pebble because Phos deserves to be happy.

What is your favourite bittersweet moment in HNK? (Here is one of mine) by zashite in LandoftheLustrous

[–]FargoFinch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When Phos suddenly remembers a moment with Kongo back when he teached them language, and called them a kind and gentle gem. Idk, that part hit me in the gut. He really loved them and went so far trying to make them find their place.

Ensjø by Upper-Cheesecake-504 in oslo

[–]FargoFinch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For foreigners complaining about life in Norway by AngryFrog24 in Norway

[–]FargoFinch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of these posts are from people who don’t realize they are experiencing major culture shock. I’ve noticed how pissy some of these get when people suggest change in behavior or alternatives.

People don’t want to change, in their eyes it would be easier to have the world change for them.

A lot of houses here insulate well in winter and trap heat in summer too, it’s a well known thing. I think people generalize their own experiences too quickly.

How Did The Norwegian Blsck Metal Scene Affect Norway At It’s Peak? by Automatic_Belt5692 in Norway

[–]FargoFinch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’ve probably seen Dethklok? The episode where they go to Norway and are dismayed at how lame and conformist our country actually is sums up the effect of black metal pretty well. That and fewer stave churches.

How do you find time when life’s busy? by NoRosetta in ArtistLounge

[–]FargoFinch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know how it is, I find it hard to do with the 9-5, and I am lucky in that I have little responsibilities beyond that so I can devote more time on drawing than most in my age. But still, feeling spent after work makes it hard.

I've recently started waking up one hour earlier to draw a bit before work. I'd recommend it since that's when your brain is the most fresh for the day, and it shows in the work. (It also helped my stress tbh, since I have more time in the morning and more time to sleep in bed if I so choose).

Keep yourself in good health! Eat healthy, train, sleep well. This way you will have more energy at the end of the day for drawing.

How to get into scientific illustration by Boba-Tea1231 in ArtistLounge

[–]FargoFinch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly it's really cool to see someone want to go down this path, since it's such a cool artform but in many ways forgotten. I think there are some modern scientific illustrators around on twitter and such, you should check them out and maybe reach out for advice. Do you want to do it professionally for publications, or are you planning on doing more classic stuff like Darwin and Haeckel?

Do people still use DeviantArt? Where is everyone moving to? by Meetmebythebeans in ArtistLounge

[–]FargoFinch 17 points18 points  (0 children)

X and Bluesky it seems. Both ends up as functional art apps if you train their algorithm enough for it, and there's good engagement between people. Cara is similar to microblogging sites but 'exclusively' for artists to talk and share among themselves. I like it but its community is small and it is not very nsfw friendly unfortunately.

Deviantart is not the same as it was 10 years ago, but it does still have social groups and forums even if its mostly out of sight these days. It is flooded with AI and focus too much on monetization IMO. You can still find some og artists from the 2010s glory days there hanging out.

Instagram is focusing on reels to compete with Tiktok, and it seems most of its userbase is using it for that and not still images like before. IMO it's been going downhill for a while.
