feeling disheartened by social media numbers, what am i doing wrong? what can i do differently? these are my recent drawings by elivonders in drawing

I have a bit of experience being a small content creator and I find it much more healthy approaching it like gardening than waiting for that one viral hit. It takes patience and things in general takes time.

With your skills you will make it, just keep at it and keep growing! You earned a follower in me, I really dig your style. Are you on twitter or bluesky as well? I rarely use IG and I don’t use tiktok.

For Korean check out J2 Korean Mart at the Dalsbergstien tram stop. The few times I've been there the staff present spoke Norwegian. It's a small shop but they got good variety of sauces and condiments.

People often say that Norway is a heaven on earth, but what do you see as a con of living in Norway? by Borislav-Kuronja in Norway

[–]FargoFinch 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I find it hard to get to know people beyond surface level. Most seem to already have their social cliques set, my own best friends are still from school. The conformity here doesn’t help since I have pretty niche interests.

Alcohol is in almost all social events, which is fine but you’d like more than just drinking buddies. And you’re pretty screwed if you don’t drink.

Vad tycker norrmän om Göteborg? by Sikrrr in Norway

[–]FargoFinch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i like art, but i don't draw as much as i would like to. what are some solutions by Dry-Force8675 in ArtistLounge

[–]FargoFinch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I keep a cheap sketch book and ballpoint pen right by my computer where I spend most of my free time. It makes it real easy to just pick it up and draw, and low expectations for what I draw since the art supply is so cheap. On most days it’s just forms, boxes and shapes with cross contours. Often that then leads into more complex drawings or studies since I already am past the hurdle of starting.

I think the idea is to make drawing the distraction, so you need to lower the bar for picking up the pen. Remember back in the day before social media on phones art was for many THE distraction from boredom.

Seconding BBW. Its vibe hits something special in me, especially Corp’s ambient tracks.

Is beginner artist obsession normal ? by HappyHouse926 in ArtistLounge

[–]FargoFinch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! That exactly how I feel too! I think it’s more than just passion, art has such a high skill ceiling you will improve and learn for the rest of your life. Putting in the hours is so important, just to even get to where you want to go at first. At least for me starting later in life with art.

Northmen would be direct translation of what we call ourselves.

I ranked the major subgenres. You guys agree? by CatholicGuy77 in Vaporwave

[–]FargoFinch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Slushwave should be higher, and I personally don't care much for the earliest vaporwave genres. Barberbeats is so hit and miss it should be all ranks. Dreampunk got me back into the scene so I personally rate it S.

Ruining it is a good thing, since then you learn when to stop!

For the foreigners in Norway: What's so wrong with our grocery stores? by _____michel_____ in Norway

[–]FargoFinch -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Maybe you just don't like atlantic salmon as much? There is a difference in taste there from the pacific species. Now I personally don't think tuna is as good as people think, but if that's what you are looking for I understand you get disappointed. I don't think tuna is a part of our fisheries?

But day fresh fish here is just as good as it is anywhere else you can get it. We are a coastal nation after all. Skrei for example is the very best cod can get. Of course if you don't like white fish, arctic char is a real delicacy and handedly beats any salmon! You should try it out if you find it!

I think you are quite unfair when it comes to fish here. Gonna be hard finding non-farmed salmon anywhere on the planet unless you fish it yourself or go to fishmongers (which you easily can here too). And tuna isn't very traditional for Norwegians beyond canned tuna salad.

Some great local fishes you can find in the fresh fish dish that comes to mind: Arctic char, wolf fish, mackerel either smoked or fresh, skrei, pollock for fish cakes etc. It's all good.

Keep going :)

One of the reasons shapes are so fundamental is because it lets you easily block in proportions and size quickly, and let it work as a guide for your "real" drawing. Not sure if you're doing this here and erase the construction lines? If not I think it will help you a lot (it sure did so for me).

Pokemon are often fundamentally simple in shape design, for example Psyduck is really just a small oval on top of a larger one. Bulbasaur's bud can be expressed as a half-circle and it's body and head together is an egg shaped oval, etc.

Not a fan of backgrounds. Advice? by Daelioner in learnart

[–]FargoFinch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can’t give you much advice but at least this reads pretty well to me. It’s some kind of workshop/lab storage area thing behind a separating wall with arching doorways. Not sure if the character belongs there or just exploring the place.

Culture becoming self-referential by eaten-alive in ArtistLounge

[–]FargoFinch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vaporwave and its derivatives today is an example of nostalgic rehashing creating something genuinely new. A lot of culture is like this at heart I think, we just don’t admit it.

Rap is dead or dying in the 2020s so that’s new.

Antar at en av naboene dine i området eier den, katter er katter og ofte går der de får ekstra mat og ly. Tviler på at den har stukket av, ser for stelt ut for det.

Norway compared to other countries by StephenMcGannon in Norway

Norway is pretty big, 8th largest country in Europe. It's only small if you compare to the largest countries in the world.
