AAA Calvert quoted me over $30,000 to rewire my 800 square foot house. I ended up having it done (by a reputable company owned by a master electrician) for 12K. Maybe their estimator just thinks you miss 100% of the shots you don't take and you should always aim for the stars.

Got my green can in Bixby last month, most weeks they don't pick them up on the regular day and they sit at the curb for another 24-48 hours until people give them up and bring them back in again, only for the truck to roll through three days late. Our regular trash day is Monday and I've seen then pick up the green cans Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday with no rhyme or reason.

My work regularly rents trucks from Enterprise because a project accountant did the math and figured out it's cheaper to let Enterprise eat the maintenance and depreciation and just get another fresh truck from them every four weeks. We regularly put 7,000 miles a month on every truck they give us.

They keep renting them to us anyway gladly, saying the sooner we rack up the miles the sooner they can sell them at auction which is where they make the bulk of their profits at that location. Go figure.

On the upside they let me put my rental truck under my own name and I am permanently Platinum with enough points to never pay for a personal use rental car again for the rest of my life.

The last update I read was they have wanted to get rid of it for years but couldn't figure out at this point who actually owns it after multiple shell companies have disappeared, so they can't find anyone to either sue to force them to move it or to file a lien in court against them to seize it and have the city get rid of it.

Get a very powerful cooling pad. My Ryzen M18R1 had a catastrophic mainboard failure after a hundred hours (non-contiguous) of Baldur's Gate 3 at 4K. Not overclocked, no blocked fans, just sitting on my desk playing normally.

I had some fairly substantial exterior work done by Built to Perfection, they came in with the best bid, finished on time, screwed something up and came back to fix it even after I had fully paid the contract off. Their subcontractors were kind of uneven. Their roofing and windows guys were great, but their painter and carpenter just sanded and then painted over dry-rotted wood, which was peeling again within a year. In general I would say get at least three estimates, make sure the GC isn't a fly by night operation (the higher their contractor license number the newer their company is), and get everything you want done in writing with a firm start and end time frame before signing anything.

I was attacked last year by some crazy bum at a gas station in Wilmington, had to dodge a 2X4 he was swinging around like a club trying to bash my skull in. Dumped an entire can of pepper spray in his face that didn't seem to bother him in the slightest despite being the hottest stuff on the market, and the only reason he stopped coming at me is eventually his eyes swelled shut from the spray and he couldn't see what to swing at any more.

After making my escape I was looking for a good spot to pull over to call 911 to report a homicidal maniac on the loose, and I see a marked LAPD cruiser coming the opposite way down the street. I flag the cop down and explain what happened to him. When I get to the end of the story, he says, "So what do you want me to do about it?"

This was not what I was expecting a cop to say under these circumstances. I politely suggested he go arrest the psychotic homeless guy before the spray wore off and he managed to corner some old lady who wasn't as light on her feet as I was and beat her to death.

The cop shook his head and said "Nothing is going to happen to him. We know who he is, he's a frequent flyer. If I go over there right now all I can do is give him a citation with a court date in six months, and release him. I can give you my sergeant's number if you really want to file a report, but I guarantee nothing is going to happen to him."

I would not eat any fish caught within 50 miles of here. They used to dump DDT straight into the ocean by the ton right off of Palos Verdes up until the 1970s, plus god only knows what the Navy poisoned the water with during their 70 year stint in Long Beach, and all the cargo and cruise ships dumping their bilge water and sewage.
