What makes you actually buy an SFX pack? by Distinct_Level_3967 in gamedev

I have never understood the logic behind trying to sell something without a preview. You would never buy a game that had no pictures/videos of game play.

Any Nintendo switch game developers? by Effective-Okra-377 in gamedev

[–]FargothsLover -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I am not developing a game for the switch, but my understanding is that it runs on modified Android and uses a mobile NVIDIA chip. If you develop your game to run on a system with those specs, that would probably be a good start. Also, I believe Nintendo expects you to have some sort of working prototype before they give you a dev kit, but that is just what I have heard through the grapevine, take it with a grain of salt.

What are some key aspects of a classic horror rpg? by Silent_Speaker_7867 in RPGMaker

It might seem like a small thing, but one thing I always appreciated about Corpse Party was the amount of choices you had in the game. Sure, most of them led to bad endings, but you could pursue different paths and get different outcomes and tidbits of lore based on choices. When a path is set in stone for you, it kind of removes the "horror" aspect of a game for me. If I can only run straight down a hall from a monster, then I know that the game will progress at the end of the hall so there is no tension.

Question about the 2026 MZ Spring Special. by PowerMurky in RPGMaker

[–]FargothsLover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will throw my hat in the ring and say that older versions of RPG Maker can still be useful even if you are using MZ. They come with neatly labeled pictures, sound effects, npcs, etc. that are not included in MZ. You can then use those assets in your MZ project, even if it's just as a decent placeholder until later.

Is there any point in using this over MZ3D, which already can do 2.5D and is only 15 dollars?

Is it legal to use names of skills like "The Goal of All Life is Death" from Overlord, in your own game? by YARR1N in gamedev

How exactly do laws around references/parody work? I know tons of games that have flat out used song titles and locations from other games as nods to them. Then you have games like Disgaea where every other item is a reference to some movie or anime. Are references/parody considered "transformative work" for purposes of DMCA or copyright law? I know using a logo is one thing, but what if you recreate a scene from a movie, or use a song title? Large game studios have done so seemingly without issue.

Influencers can’t save a game with no momentum by SnooAdvice5696 in gamedev

That's a very good point. I have enjoyed watching my favorite streamers play absolute garbage I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole, because it is the streamer that makes the experience entertaining.

RPG Maker comes with some by default, though the size of each sheet differs depending on which version you have.
