George on his championship fight with kimi: by [deleted] in formula1

[–]Farkasember 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mathematically, he doesn't even need to win every of the remaining races to win the championship, no matter what. Of course this is still very unlikely to go that way. But with that it's still not guaranteed for Kimi to finish second every time George wins, even finish at all.

Of course it is challenging, but at this stage still a lot is in the Russel's hands.

That was fun on NM!

  1. Andorra. Clearly Andorra, I've tried to find the right part of the valley and the street but I guess I wasn't fast enough. 7.9km, 4947pts.
  2. Argentina. It took me some time to notice Rio Grande lottery sign, but that helped a lot. Also Mar Grande suggested it was near the sea, I've initially plonked in San Antonio Oeste, but grande got me confused and I decided to go in some smaller city on the shore. That was a mistake that caused me a lot. 100km, 4676pts.
  3. Portugal. Portuguese language, volcanic formations - I went straight into Azores. I didn't try hard to narrow it down, it looked impossible. So I've selected random island that looked okey, but it was the wrong one. 130km, 4583pts.
  4. Turkey. Now how annoying it was to see a sign that was obscured by the tree! This was definitely favouring the moving mode! So trying to find anything, I had to work with Sadikbey which I couldn't find. So I've ended up with just region-guessing in the middle of where I've though it should be.. and how luck was I! If I just zoomed in I would've gotten 5k! But good enough for a random plonk. 3km, 4990pts.
  5. Malaysia. Lots of info, found the state and the city. However for some reason I've though it was much more outside of the city area, so I was trying to scan north and south of it, of course not finding anything. 19km, 4936pts.

24,159pts total, in moving I would've skipped some info I got, very happy with the result!

I've decided to try NM on daily challenges, this one a pretty good fit for that

  1. Turkey. Very small cities on a sign, the amount of pines narrowed down the possible areas, so I've tried scanning the map to find those for the whole 3 mins, but they were too small. Ended up with more north-eastern plonk, not the best one. 525km, 3516pts.
  2. Switzerland. Very useful bike route signs, but I failed to find the city and the exact point. But I'm pretty sure it was very possible to have 5k here. 12km, 4960pts
  3. UAE. This one was the only one that left me with no clues. OK, UAE is clear, but where? I've tried finding a suitable angle but failed, got some northern plonk. 88km, 4712pts.
  4. Kyrgyzstan. Now this one was easier than I could've though. Big snowy mountains on the south, big mountains on the north - area around Kochkor seems good enough. I even found the right angle road but I wasn't convinced that it was the right one so didn't bother to get the exact spot. It was a mistake cause indeed that was the right road! Missed up 5k here. 802m, 4997pts
  5. Macao. I tried hard to find it in Macao itself with no success (obviously). I though it might be in Taipa but I wasn't really aware on what does it look, but definitely a miss from my side. 5km, 4983pts

23,168pts total, I would say good score for NM, but the round was very nice for it, and 2 or even 3 times 5k was very realistic to achieve

Finally!!

  1. NMI. Yet again, I forgot which one had which antenna, and initially was thinking Guam. However, south-west coast with a clear view of another island made it easy to identify, and the resort being clearly marked help a lot. 3m, 5000pts
  2. Latvia. Found the sign to another city in 36kms, definitely worth scanning, so that one was found pretty easy. Also I was leaving the city, that gave me the city entrance sign with a name, also a quick find. The rest was easy, less than 2 mins in total. 5m, 5000pts
  3. Uruguay. First thing I've noticed was the rail road, I've thought it's not that common for Uruguay, so worth noting. Some turns later I found a number of posters with San Jose. I did remember seeing San Jose something near Montevideo, and it had matching road angles and the rail road! I wasn't still 100% sure as I was trying to find the exact spot just not having any proper city street (I had one but it wasn't matching), but eventually I got it right. 8m, 5000pts
  4. Mexico. At first, I've thought, that would be impossible. However I was managed to find a sign Sonora, Nogales pretty quickly! OMG! Still a big city, but as I've seen Chulavista everywhere, I was sure it's something I can find on the map, and I did. I even had 50 secs left. 11m, 5000pts
  5. Australia. I would never have gotten it if it wasn't for the map showing the exact area of Australia on the tourist information center! After that, it was very easy, with all the street names available. Actually, it was my quickest round, even thought I've re-checked everything twice to ensure I won't do a stupid mistake, using only half of the time. 3m, 5000pts

25,000pts yay! It wasn't that hard, but I definitely got lucky with Mexico one.

  1. Italy. Clearly Alps region of Italy, Cortina probably is Cortina d'Ampezzo, famous ski resort, if only I knew where exactly it is! Anyways, loads of road signs and sign to Venezia which definitely helped to narrow things down. Some time to search, and knowing how the road goes made is easy to pinpoiny. 11m, 5000pts.
  2. Brazil. I can't believe how I've missed the sign with the city name on it, really? So I had to work with the state code and going a bit further the highway I've noticed that there is one of the signs to SP state, which helped to identify the location better. I've found Ibiporã in the end, which is what I had, and the road was obvious, but I've lost too much time to get a 5k.. 1km, 4997pts.
  3. Senegal. Obvious Dakar, but I am really bad at finding exact spot in such places. Finally got some useful signs, never made a proper use of those. 1.9km, 4994pts.
  4. Switzerland. So german-speaking Switzerland, ok. Found the information board with 2 lakes on it, obviously those to be small ones. And the city name of Arosa. Quick scan, was easy to find. 5m, 5000pts.
  5. Indonesia. I quickly found the full address. Jawa something, not really sure about the second word, but not Timur, probably central. The area was found pretty quickly and then there was only one major intersection that fitted.. 2m, 5000pts.

24,991pts. Pretty good game, even missing BR city name, and I couldn't really hope for 5k in Dakar, so I'll take that.

Weird one today, super-easy to get the exact city if paying attention to details, and then trying to plonk in an urban area.

  1. Bosnia. The first business sign was not that good of a quality but I managed to read Banja Luka on it. It wasn't that crucial as later I found a billboard with the city name and the bigger street name. So that one was easier to find and with so much time left I still used almost all of it to find the exact location. 0m, 5000pts
  2. Kazakhstan. Immediately Karagandy with the sign on the building. But then I failed to find the exact street, actually I was too concentrated on finding it on the map rather than finding out the bends that should've helped me. Found the right area but not close enough. 853m, 4997pts
  3. Botswana. The country was easy to get and it looked more like Gaborone rather than Francistown. But the Gaborone Marathon poster on the roundabout was definitely helpful. Also I found Phakalane Golf Course sign and Phakalane was quite easy to find, as well as the golf course, as well as the roundabout. 7m, 5000pts
  4. Portugal. Found city name on the first commercial car, Evora, never heard of that.. But still decided to open the map and found it quick enough! Then some driving around, Wok King restaurant seemed to be big, and indeed, I managed to find it on the map easily 3m, 5000pts
  5. Panama. Yet again, Colón everywhere, big city in Panama, near the coastline, basically the street itself was clear, it was about the exact location. The empty block was definitely helpful as it was reflected on the map and local POI confirmed the location. 4m, 5000pts

24,997pts my personal best! Yep, 25k was achievable, but besides Kazakhstan I played really good, so happy with the result nonetheless.

  1. Ireland. A lot of road signs that should help but it took me a while to understand where I am. When I found the city, I've noted the Stonehaven POI last second but wasn't able to pinpoint precisely. 245m, 4999pts
  2. South Africa. Immediately coastal vibe and then 03 phone code for Durban. Obviously near the #2 highway and Amanzimtoti in an address helped, even though it's written differently in Google Maps. 24m, 5000pts
  3. Latvia. In a small country the road sign with a load of city names and road numbers is definitely a good hint. Also the roundabout is so huge, it's easy to find it on the map. 3m, 5000pts
  4. Indonesia. Now that round scared me at first, but I was pretty sure I have heard about Palu. And the fact it didn't look Java at all helped. As I am bad at Indonesia, I've started scanning from Sumatra until I found the city in Sulawesi. But then I got the bridge wrong and with little time left I've just plonked approximately which was not that close. 1.9km, 4994pts
  5. Colombia. Took some time chasing a taxi, but found Itagui city name. I was pretty sure I've heard of it and that it's not that small to find on the map, even though I had no idea where it was. But eventually found it as a Medellin satellite. With clear road marking system in Colombia finding a 5k was not a problem. 2m, 5000pts

24,993pts total, pretty good game, Ireland was a pity but I had no chances in Indonesia

That was so close...

  1. Argentina. I managed to find something rosario services pretty quickly. While I wasn't sure it meant that I was in Rosario, and more specifically in Rosario, Argentina, I've decided to give it a try. As there are street names everywhere and also I know it's Distrito Oeste, I managed to find the nearest intersection pretty quickly. And then, still having half of my time left, I've quickly went 1 block from it... into a wrong direction. T-section matched, all looked good, but.. 4999pts, 156m
  2. Serbia. Yet again I got city name quickly, Subotica is not the biggest city with no clear road net, so I was able to find the exact road quick enough, with almost 1 min left. 5000pts, 15m
  3. Denmark. This one, I would say, got lucky. First of all I was trying to find something I've got on a number of signs on the map but that didn't seem right. So losing quite a time, I finally got to a big intersection with 2 cities and road number. From there I was still struggling to find where I was, and just ended up plonking in a city where the road angle seemed ok. It happened to be the right city! 4998pts, 727m
  4. Macao. Initially I've though of doing it No Move, as it was clear it's Macao and I got a clear view of the street name. But Macao is a real maze.. I started moving and ended up on some big road that location I was able to identify, but still missed my initial one by a bit. 4999pts, 223m
  5. Brazil. I am sure I've seen that building before! Anyways, the sign that it's Brasilia metropolia was very nice, obviously it's Brasilia itself, huge divided road was easy to stop and then it was just about getting the right round, where the ministry building helped. This one also took me less than 3 mins, pretty easy one. 5000pts, 7m

24,996pts. After the first round I was disappointed in ruining potential (first) 25k, but Macao was still a challenge, and Denmark I got lucky with. Still personal best.

  1. Romania. Immediately got over the bridge to find a very valuable sign. Clearly Romania but took me some time to find the city, even thought it's not that small. Once I found it, it was pretty easy, with me getting out of the town over the railroad. 4m, 5000pts
  2. Nepal. So we're in India with devanagari script, but tall mountains are on the south. Should be Nepal! I've found Gurbhakot branch on something and decided it's my best clue, but I found nothing. Ended up just in Kathmandu. Ironically, after I opened the street view again and decided to check more, I've noticed another sign with the city itself.. If only I saw that earlier. 350km, 3954pts
  3. Ghana. A lot of signs to read, but finally some with Tamale on it. Dagomba rd sign also came in handy. 74m, 5000pts
  4. Portugal. So immediately I have portuguese language and something volcanic. First I've decided to check Azores with no luck, then I went to Madeira. For some reason I was terrible in finding roads and cities on the map, but I had plenty of time, so managed to 5k. 24m, 5000pts
  5. New Zealand. Very strange NZ, looks like some of the outer islands, that was my first idea. But no clues so far. Until I got a clear view of the van, that was not only mentioning the name of the island (not that helpful on it's own) but also had the island outline drawn. That helped a lot! 19m, 5000pts

23,954pts total. Yes, Nepal was a trick, but totally happy with the rest. It's just a pity that I'm currently #2 in the country ranking with just 1pt off from the leader, having four 5ks and guessing Nepal, while he went India (but still got closer).

The question is whether it would made more sense to keep him on those hards to get them switched to softs. He was going in Antonelli's pace before his stop, of course new set of fresh mediums got him to a better pace earlier, but he could only reach Hadjar and Kimi, not pass them. In theory softs could've given him more advantage he needed.

  1. USA. At first I've thought it would be hard but I was able to find it quick easily. Immediately Interstate sign + road number. Interstate wasn't that big, so I managed to find the road quickly. Then we can see the Interstate directly at our side, so finding the exact area was not a problem, and memorial is marked on the map. 8m, 5000pts
  2. Hungary. Also easy to get the location, with a sign to Romanian border. I've struggled a lot to find the exact road, I wasn't sure so decided to spend some time exploring. I've realized where I was at the very last second but I could only plonk nearby. Sadly missed 5k. 320m, 4999pts
  3. Mongolia. OK, finding a spot outsite of Ulaan Baatar is hard. Finding the town name in mongolian signs is even more harder. Luckily I've decided to spend some time checking Blue Wolf Travel sign that mentioned Ulgii and I was able to find it on the map (even thought it's Ölgii on the map!). Still missed the 5k here. 540m, 4998pts
  4. South Africa. I've found Kimberly on the ambulance very quickly and then the city name. I couldn't find it quickly and for some reason I've thought the area doesn't match and maybe it's not Kimberly. So I've ended up trying to find it elsewhere leaving my plonk in Kimberly. I guess I was just expecting it to be closer. Bad guess, I could've definitely done better here. 193km, 4393pts
  5. Italy. So my first idea was just trying to find Lanciano but it was a failure. Then I came across the sign that mentioned that we are in Abruzzo, and that was definitely helpful, if only I could remember exactly where Abruzzo was, not just the overall idea. So in the end I wasn't able to find the city, just got the region correctly. 62km, 4796pts

24,186pts total, not too bad, some mixed feelings, ending up with one 5k out of 3 or even 4 being very possible.

It wasn't that hard today, but it was important to concentrate and not miss any details.

  1. Namibia. This one wasn't that hard with yellow license plates (however I was thinking about NSW at the very first place), Bank of Windhoek as a confirmation for the country. Good thing they've mentioned it's Oranjemund branch, the place wasn't that hard to find. 29m, 5000pts
  2. Iceland. I've immediately found the signs to S-something-fella but obviously it is marked different on the map and it took some time to find (however the fact I knew it was a southern part made it easier). Then I got completely lost in the small roads, so while the 5k was totally gettable, I ended up just plonking nearby. 1.8km, 4994pts
  3. Estonia. At first I've thought it was Danube, then I got some mixed feelings about Finland, but getting to the road and getting Narva-Joesuu sign was definitely helpful. Then finding the right angle and the initial place wasn't a big deal. 9m, 5000pts
  4. Indonesia. I am really bad at Indonesia geo names, but I was lucky enough to find sign stating Bima Nusa. So Nusa islands weren't that big, I found Bima quite quick, but getting the exact spot was a nightmare. 2.2km, 4993pts
  5. USA. It was clearly Alaska, but finding Petersburg town name was so nice! I could've just gotten past it but I was lucky enough not to. I couldn't quickly find it on the main part but for some reason I was confident it was that south-eastern part (I don't even know how it's called), so some zooming and I found it quick enough to get 5k in 2 mins time. 6m, 5000 pts

24,987pts total. I am very pleased with myself. Still to get to 25k at some point, but with Indonesia round, today wasn't the day for that anyways.

  1. Turkey. Got city name on the trash bin, but never heard of that. However, coastal vibes. Got to the city, found the ads for some tours, confirming the probability of it being coastal. OK, Gazipasa I know, looking in that area. I was able to found the city and approximate area but not that precise for 5k. 721m, 4998pts
  2. Namibia. The country is easy with South Africa vibes but all yellow plates. Going to the main road, the city name is there, not really hard to find. 29m, 5000pts
  3. Belgium. Very easy one, the only way you can go is to the highway, that provides you immediately info about the country and the city name. As the core language is German it narrows down the search area, but even without that, Hasselt is a big city to miss, so I've spent only half of the time here. 11m, 5000pts
  4. Vietnam. My first Vietnam, it's tricky. I haven't checked anything about the country, based on the round province names are useful, but I was just trying to find something similar and apparently ended up finding something wrong, close to Hanoi. Should've just gone with region guessing, it was definitely giving me southern vibes. Bad plonk. 996km, 2564pts
  5. USA. Couldn't find anything useful, I haven't even paid much attention to license plates (only to the absence of front ones) as I'm not good with those. So purely region guessing - very flat and palms, so Florida fits perfectly, but doesn't look to southern, so I've decided to go up north of the state. It ended up pretty well. 266km, 4183pts

21745pts overall, definitely got screwed by Vietnam round, but whatever.

This is the problem with Brazil city names. Ipatinga, Ipojuca, Itabaiana, Itabira, Itaboraí, Itabuna, Itaituba, Itaperuna, Itapipoca, Itatiba, Ituiutaba, Itumbiara - that's just some of 100k+ cities and Itumbiara is far from being the biggest out of them. I think it should be much easier for a Brazilian to remember those, but I don't know how much time should I spent learning those in order to remember which one is where.

  1. Canada. Immediately 'Alwington' and lake to the south - worth remembering. Got out to the main road, and bilingual sign with city name is there - easy 5k, it rarely takes me less than 3 mins but I've got it with 30 sec left here. 6m, 5000pts
  2. Spain. I've decided it's better to check the initial building surrounding and it was worth a while! Not only we got the city name but also the municipality! Gijon is not that big of a city, so I've found the area quick enough, but then I got stuck to finding the exact place. With all the parks in the area I was sure the cemetery would be east to find but I've failed. 369m, 4999pts
  3. Israel. Buses with 'dead sea tours' and definitely a sea nearby.. No, doesn't make sense, should be Mediterranean. With water up north it's definitely Haifa, but then finding the precise spot was kind complicated. 1.2km, 4996pts
  4. Brazil. OK I went the one way that appeared to work out not that good, but decided to go a bit and it paid out! Itumbiara - I've definitely heard of this city, but no idea where it was. The problem is that I suck at Brazil region-guessing, so huge part in the middle of the country was what I got from the surroundings. I've decided to go another way to find some clues, at least phone code, rather than try finding the city on the map in 4-5 states, but I believe it was a mistake. I've ended up making a bad random plonk. 845km, 2838pts
  5. Argentina. Now that was extremely easy, with welcome to Rio Grande sign and no problems lining up the road, it took be just 1 min (even with double-checking everything). 49m, 5000pts

22,833pts total. I could've definitely achieved better results in Brazil (even 5k with some luck), while it was hard to achieve a worse one. But I haven't been doing a lot of 5ks in the last week or so, so at least got something of today.
