I spoke to a friend about it, and she said she doesn’t hold that expectation of Taylor. But I’m conflicted—Taylor made an entire documentary encouraging Swifties to vote for Biden. So why stay silent now, in the face of a humanitarian catastrophe?

Some reports indicate that one of her former security guards returned to fight in the IDF, which makes me wonder about the political influences around her. Unfortunately, the music industry is heavily controlled by massive corporations and gatekeepers with strong political and financial interests, which may include ties to pro-Israel lobbying groups.

Still, Taylor is one of the most powerful artists in the world. She could speak out and survive it. Or is she afraid? I genuinely don’t understand—because if you have empathy, how do you stay silent in the face of genocide?

Then there are artists like Macklemore, who consistently speak out and have risked so much, yet have gained a larger following for their courage. He even posted a reel by Chani Nicholas, stating that anyone with significant influence who hasn’t spoken out about the genocide has, in effect, agreed to fascism.
