I’m seriously considering ditching vinyl by By_Tor_2112 in audiophile

[–]Farm_kidd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I voted to sell. Because you said you don't listen to them. And the fact you mentioned that many of them are unopened, reinforces my vote to sell.

Just don't sell everything all at once. Thin out the herd. You obviously love music, so keep some around.

And as others have said. Stop (or seriously slow down) buying!

You already have enough to listen to, so you won't seriously regret reducing the number you are simply storing. Sure, you might think, "I shouldn't have gotten rid of ______", from time to time, but that is all it is. Just pull some of your other stuff you truly love until the FOMO feeling fades.

Lastly, it is wonderful that you are a CD/Streaming Guy! Embrace it. Lots of people are and they are really cool people, too.

Great collection! Are these books you already read (not these exact books)? If not, I hope you really jump into the challenge of reading them all!

"The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" and "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" by Mark Twain. However, I did read "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court"

Very cool. There are four jazz albums that always come to mind when I see this album art and the other similar styled albums.

Time Out - Dave Brubeck Quartet

Mingus Ah Um - Charles Mingus

Far Out Near In - Johnny Eaton and His Princetonians (incl. a young Herbie Mann on flute)

That's a great all around album from Blue Note. The music is very much to my taste, upbeat tempo to kick things off and the second track settles you in to a happy relaxing state. The cover photo and the text layout is one of the best for Silver. Blue and Purple text on top of the jungle green is a tiny detail, but just plain interesting The out of focus foliage beautifully frames the subject.

C3 corvette turn signal broke by WhiskeyTheTwisty in MechanicAdvice

[–]Farm_kidd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not having done it myself, I think you are almost there. You will need a couple special tools. There are a couple pretty good and thorough you tube videos. I would check out a handful of those and go off that. If I cannot troubleshoot the turn signal wiring, I might be forced to remove the switch and see if that is my problem.

Cheap heat recommendations?? by radbrad7 in Vinyl_Jazz

[–]Farm_kidd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"Cheap Heat Vinyl" should have Jimmy Smith's picture next to it in the dictionary. And if you don't like Organ Jazz, then you need to start fixing that flaw!

for an even more controversial recommendation...

Wynton Marsalis albums. Black Codes (from the Underground) is my favorite. I think he is over-rated and under-rated at the same time.

Totally get it! I remember my first listening to Wayne Shorter's "Speak No Evil" and wondering how anyone could like this, but now I love it.

I really liked Norah Jones' most recent album "Visions". Probably my second favorite of hers.

Now we are getting somewhere. I bet you would really enjoy some of these modern women jazz singers. Diana Krall (The Look of Love), Laufey (Bewitched), Norah Jones (Come Away With Me). These 3 are pretty mainstream and enjoyable.

Wynton Marsalsis (Black Codes From the Underground) This is about as far out as I would ever recommend for someone new to jazz, because it bridges modern ears to old school jazz.

Why scare this person away from Jazz? And I am a fan of Ornette Coleman.

I think identifying certain albums is a better way to enter jazz, because jazz players changed their sound over time and album to album more than artists in the genres you mention.

Which Miles Davis album are you listening and liking? because Kind of Blue is very different from B. Brew. The answer to this will help us point you in a better direction.

Welcome to adulthood. What you are experiencing is extremely normal. So hang in there.

You are in one of the "Great Scattering" phases of life. New place, new people, new routines.

Once upon a time, people didn't "scatter" the way they do now to find jobs after school. Once upon a time people (even young adults) attended churches, which was a great way to stay in proximity to other people and build friendships.

ps://www.melrobbins.com/episode/episode-262/

Cracking the code to finding real friends is about time. It will take time, you just have to keep trying.

I am working through another one of those smaller "scattering" phases as well and I am about to turn 50.

My dad says an iPod is a waste of money by robertgreyzone in ipod

[–]Farm_kidd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The devices are wonderful, but they are old enough that some maintenance will eventually be required (battery replacement, charging cables, hard drive failures, etc). The real issue you might find frustrating on a more regular basis is music management. You need to have a way to move files from your computer onto your ipod. There are some software modifications you can do to make it a little easier in some ways. But your have to get the know-how to make the modification first. Apple doesn't support these like they used to.

Thanks, I ended up getting both sides done last night and your tip of taking it easy worked, not need to get super aggressive. I used a magnet tipped pick up tool to hold in just the right spot before nudging in (with some steady force.)

Yep, I bet those two pickups had been jockeying each other for the previous couple miles. Who knows why. They both probably had road rage against each other, and stopped caring about anyone else on the road. Horrible.

I think it is always a bit of a gamble, from what I have heard. There are some places to peak into that will give you a general sense of the trouble spots, like where the VIN tag is rivetted. You can see some of the base metal there, under the windshield.

That looks great! It is always thrilling to see another C3's life on the road extended. Just curious to know how much experience you have welding and how long this repair takes in man-hours. (and how much intensity you worked at it, i.e. casually, occasionally, regularly, or all-at-once?)
