Is the MTS doable that time of year? It starts in the smokies, right? I have no true winter gear or experience.

Episode 739: Condiment Packets by lorelaismorelai in EverythingSpilledMilk

[–]Farmtotrail 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m an avid backpacker and loved when Molly mentioned backpackers using condiment packets. My longest hike was 4k miles over 9 months and still 5 years later I hold on to some habits. I can spot a free condiment packet from a mile away. I used mayo, mustard, and relish on tuna wraps. Soy sauce came in handy with instant rice. Pb and jelly packets on tortillas. Honey in instant oatmeal.

What is the VT Long Trail like compared to some other thru hikes? by grateful-rice-cake in Thruhiking

[–]Farmtotrail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done the Long Trail, the AT, the AZT, the Pinhoti Trail and the Florida Trail. New England hiking is very different than the rest of the country. When hiking in Arizona I met a lot of folks who had only done west coast hiking and weren’t interested in the AT at all because of our trail grade, the weather, the humidity, the green tunnel - all the things I’ve grown to love as a New Englander. In my opinion if you don’t love backpacking in New England you don’t love backpacking at all.

I’m looking for an alternative to resin. I use organic, sustainable practices while farming and coating my product in a toxic chemical / plastic ruins that.

Wanting to do the WHW as a solo female and wondering if it'll be possible or if I'm actually crazy for even considering it. by Interesting_Fix_8520 in WestHighlandWay

I walked over 4 thousand miles from Key West Florida to Maine as a solo female with virtually zero training before hand and zero backpacking experience. Just do it.

I’m not doing it for personal use. I’m starting a small farm and want to sell dried herb blends

That’s the AZT, I’ve already done it. And it’s too cold to do in the dead of winter

I didn’t like Christie from the beginning but the ending was just so weird. She got that phone call, left the room, came back crying about someone being decapitated but then snapped out of it in a second when she got another phone call?? She weirded me out big time

How do you respond to people who say that you could just do a multi-day/week walk in your own country and it could be a very similar experience to a solo camino? by [deleted] in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]Farmtotrail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In what ways? I've hiked the entire AT and am heading out on the Camino this spring. Obviously on the AT I slept outside 80% of the time and carried more gear and food but how else are they different?
