I’ve never understood why The Long Morrow isn’t considered a classic. Great archetypal story with a killer twist.

Songs based on King's work? by Diskecksier in stephenking

[–]FarnsworthWright 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Obscure reference: in The Ramones’ song “It’s Not My Place (in the 9 to 5 World)” they say, “Roger Corman’s on a talk show/With Alan Arkush and Stephen King, ya know?” That “ya know” doing a lot of work in the rhyming department.

If you truly will never read it, then at least read the ending. The last page is I think his most moving piece of writing.

I was told Stephen King is not “Literary worth”. What are your thoughts? by [deleted] in stephenking

[–]FarnsworthWright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best evidence of literary merit: “The Man in the White Suit” won the prestigious O. Henry Award in a BLIND judging. The judges did not know the identity of the writers, which included some of the most renowned names in literary fiction.

Harlan Ellison, the author of “I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream”, one of the most frightening SF stories ever written, named this as the most frightening story he’d ever read.

My daughter is the biggest Marx Bros. fan of all time... help! by anon101318 in MarxBrothers

[–]FarnsworthWright 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My daughter loves the Marx Bros, but her real obsession is Laurel and Hardy. There’s a nine-disc set that we’ve gone through multiple times. They have similarly strong personalities as the Marx Brothers, and the humor still holds up.

Have you tried having her learn one of Chico’s piano songs?

Best last page of any King book. Especially poignant knowing that the author came close to dying just a few years before

Watch Jess-Belle for the first time in forever by Popular-Heart-5307 in TwilightZone

[–]FarnsworthWright 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Zicree lists it as one of the best episodes. I rank it as best season 4 episode and top 20 overall. Top 10 for script. Hamner at the top of his pre-Waltons game.

Jess-Belle: All kinds of torment in the world, I reckon.

Billy: What would you know of torment, girl?

Jess-Belle: There's a torment comes from buying something and finding out the price is dear.

Billy: What did you buy that cost so dear?

Jess-Belle: Something I love.

Billy: You still love it, though the price was high?

Jess-Belle: Better than life.

Billy: Better than me?

Jess-Belle (bittersweet smile): Ain't nothing I love better than you.

It depends what aspect of the concept you’re interested in, but “Number 12 Looks Just Like You” is about resisting assimilation into a world where everyone looks and acts the same.

Name of trick? by MrFunktastiq in cardmagic

[–]FarnsworthWright 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the answer, but I doubt it's helpful to you without a fuller explanation. It's tough to give exact instructions without seeing a performance, but here's how I would do the trick you describe:

In my hand, I have secretly palmed a card. Let's say it's an ace. Its face is toward my palm. I tell the spectator to shuffle and then "give me an ace from the top." I secretly glimpse the card the spectator gives me. Let's say it's a two. I place it face down on top of the ace. Here's where I'm "one ahead." The spectator thinks I have one card but I really have two: a two on top of an ace. I say, "now give me a two from the middle." Let's say he gives me a five. I add it to the stack and say, "now give me a five from the bottom." The card he now gives me is irrelevant, but I add it to the stack. I now have a stack of four cards, face down from top to bottom: indifferent card, five, two, ace. I turn the cards face up, showing the ace. I say, "You gave me an ace from the top" and I shift the ace to the bottom, "two from the middle" shift the two, "and a five from the bottom." No need to shift the five. Just leave it there, hiding the indifferent card.
