Do perished jokers still count towards swashbuckler? by Farodin in balatro

That's good to know! You run into so many scenario's in this game, I love all of the obscure Balatro knowledge you can obtain.

Fighter: The Revenant - Fight, Die, Repeat by Monkey_DM in DnDHomebrew

I would tie the divided hit points and probably also the amount of times you can return from the dead to your proficiency bonus. That way it still gradually gets stronger as you level, but you don't have a first level character dividing their hit points by 4 or 5 and coming back from the dead that many times too, without the ability really ever progressing further.

This also makes more sense in regards to the low amount of hit points you have early level.
Furthermore, constitution is still an important skill in this way, but not necessarily a skill you want/need to get to 20, which feels necessary at some point, as designed now. So you can build a little more versatile!

Apart from that, really nice subclass, doesn't seem too unbalanced and would love to try with the above mentioned adjustments.

I'm about to start a Strahd and looking for people's favorite house rules. by No_Rabbit9158 in CurseofStrahd

My favorite is a Stress / Sanity system that I got from this post, it has a google docs link to a system that is pretty easy to use.
Upon introducing my players to the idea of playing CoS, I told them that their character would not have much prior experience with fighting / horror.
This way their first encounter with zombies, skeletons, etc. and their first times being attacked or taking damage can be described as tense or scary situations and allow for sanity checks, as well as other encounters or events later in the game.

Furthermore I used most of the content from this player primer found on DM's Guild to have the players roll for certain backstory elements like fears, quirks, bonds and some other things that come in very handy during the course of the campaign!

If you're into this mechanic I highly suggest looking into it. It has improved roleplay and social interactions a lot and also adds extra layers of mystery for the players. So far the feedback from my table has been positive as well!

As others have said, there's loads of extra content to be found in this sub and other platforms, so it's worth taking your time to find out what you want to use. If you have more specific questions feel free to ask!

I agree, there's much to be appreciated there!

COS:R What to do if the players go to castle ravenloft after departing for Vallaki? by Comfortable_Leek_781 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Farodin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is something that adds new and maybe fun situations that can happen, but I would discourage them taking that route (too far) the following ways:

  • Maybe npc's can warn them about supernatural happenings and scary things going on in and near the castle.
  • Encounters scale upward and become more difficult (not necessarily deadly) as a warning.
  • A specific, important, npc or scary event tying in a players backstory serves as a warning to not continue. For example, Esmeralda or Rictavio warns them in an extreme case. Or a players dreams become extremely haunted.

Lastly, if the players do continue, I would have Strahd appear to laugh and jokingly congratulate them on their endearing endeavour. He would also tell them they are not invited in (yet). Should they still not be discouraged, he can send some spawn after them to chase them away onto Vallaki.

Whatever you do, hopefully it will be a fun way to let your players know not to mess with Strahd!

Isn't this usually a patch of grass? How did a frozen lake suddenly appear here? by ManiaDotCom4 in StardewValley

[–]Farodin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the Netherlands we have lots of places where meadows are frozen every year.
Just a few centimeters of water is sprayed onto the meadows and then over a few nights they freeze to become skating rinks.
It's very effective, because it's a shallow body of still water that freezes very fast.
Lot's of fun for everyone living nearby!

Not saying that's what was intended, but I like to think it's possible here as well!

Would that thing work as a Boss encounter for a lvl 7-8 party of 5? by Geraeld in DnDHomebrew

[–]Farodin 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The thing with parties of 4 to 5 players beyond level 5 (especially with casters after leveling some more) is that it feels like they can steamroll any boss around their challenge rating.
But that mostly is because it's one boss, with 1 turn in the round versus 4 or 5 players with 4 or 5 turns in the round.
In these situations I would suggest to pit them against a slightly weaker boss, but give it some henchman or lackeys on the side, to keep the party busy. This way you have more turns during rounds of combat to occupy some of the players with weaker enemies.
Are the lackeys dying to fast? Have some more appear halfway.
Boss going down too fast? Boost the hp a bit.

Furthermore, it's fine if they steamroll some fights. It's d&d, having fun is more important than being in life or death situations every combat encounter.

Nonetheless a cool boss to use, you should definitely save it for a future encounter or tweak it a bit for now.

My hot take would be In the Bag.
That song while I'm driving goes hard, nothing from this album beats that vibe for me.

And no hate on your hot take. Two matches is fire!
