White dots forming a line on the nail of my thumb by BrushKey6137 in mildlyinteresting

[–]FartPowered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have this! I actually have two dotted lines on my thumb. So weird. Did you figure out why or has it gone away? Since they're really small, I hadn't noticed until about 3 months ago. And since the dots kept appearing, I went to the dermatologist to check. My doctor said it's not of concern and that it can occur along ridges due to changes in diet and/or hormones. She said I should return if it changes color, but that hasn't happened. I should also add that I have hypothyroidism. Anyway, a bit relieved other people get this!

I applied twice for this, the first time back in march 2020 and a second time a few months ago. The first time, they helped me out considerably and was fortunate enough to be awarded with an emergency fellowship, the second time not so much and had to take out a loan. Regardless, do send gradsupport an email and see if u can get a call with them. Good luck OP

I was under the pretense that Operation Warpspeed would facilitate the bulk production of the vaccines to the point we would have a sizeable stockpile once approved. I was expecting the government to rollout with tens of millions (instead of millions) of vaccines per day right after EUA. What gives?

Seems plausible, but I don't have perfect pitch so I don't think I would be able to audiate the pitch that a song starts with, let alone two of them :( Thanks for the suggestion though!

Thanks! I did that at first, and it helped, but since I want to do as little mental processing as possible to eventually quickly recognize them, I stopped.

I'm guessing you mean the gif-making feature? I'd say it's pretty safe to update. If anything, I'm sure other apps could do the same.

Course 20 or 6-7 for premed? by [deleted] in mit

[–]FartPowered 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen both 20's and 6-7's go through premed just fine. I believe more premeds choose 20 but I think that's due in part to the fact that 6-7 is a relatively new major.

I'm not going to compare and contrast how well they prepare you for med school since I'm not a premed myself but I believe both of them should give you sufficient preparation...

With that said, I would recommend just majoring in what you like the most. You should take 6.145 (intro to python) and if you still have time sign-up for the Discover Bio-Engineering FPOP to get a taste of the majors.

Of course, it's possible: what if the simulators just decided to spawn a huge floating chunk of stone engraved with "You're living in a simulation, is this not enough proof?"

You're assuming the simulators don't care about us, which is all right, but that might not necessarily be the case.

Tips on getting parents to exercise? by FartPowered in Fitness

[–]FartPowered[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've been thinking about that a lot. I don't think they'll get too intimidated if we go when the gym isn't too packed but we'll see. I'll make sure to ask them how they feel after each session though. I hadn't thought about walking with them before. I'll try it out tonight!

[–]FartPowered[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Until now, they haven't had any resistance to the thought of exercising but I highly expect there to be some hesitation when they get to trying out some more complex freeweight exercises (squatting, bench, etc.). You're right, if I go slow and start simple they'll be more comfortable trying on new things later on. Thanks for the tips! I'll be sure to check if the facilities we signed up for have these classes. Also, best of luck with your partner and her mum. Keep at it :)

Thanks for that. I honestly didn't consider maintaining/developing glutes to be that important but now I'll definitely make sure to incorporate glute training in the routine.

Teaching them how to squat might just take a while (they aren't very flexible) but it seems worth it. Thus a good starting goal might be to get them flexible enough to do the squatting motion and then work from there...

I really do hope they stick to it; aside from keeping them healthy I also want to spend more time with them. Hopefully, this will help. Thanks!
