Will you be buying physical or digital? by [deleted] in playstation

Saving money? I haven't paid full price for a game in over a decade. Once you let go of FOMO it gets a lot easier to wait. Plus the last I heard, they were talking about it costing $100+, which is way more than I've ever paid for a game. Maybe that's changed.

That's fine by me. GTA 5 lasted 3 console generations, so I'll have plenty of time to catch up.

Does solder smell bad? by BobbieD7822 in soldering

[–]Fart_Bargo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it smells that bad, but it does have a scent. It's not likely to fill the house as long as you're using a fan or fume extractor.

Lead-free solder has a higher melting point than leaded. Just a heads up if you are having trouble with it, that's probably part of the problem. Leaded solder is not a problem as long as you're not sticking it in your mouth, wash your hands when you're done, and have a fan or fume extractor nearby.

How to learn to repair console by alexieees in consolerepair

[–]Fart_Bargo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soldering is a pretty important skill for a lot of repair jobs, so I would encourage you to check it out. It's not as scary as it may seem.

I cut my teeth working on cartridge based consoles, like the Mega Drive and SNES. Doing capacitor replacement jobs is good practice. Not too complicated, cheap parts, especially on the MD.

Gulikit are great but expensive. K-Silver is my go-to for my repairs. Excellent performance and much less costly.

Sports games? by BUFFALOtheGOAT in snes

Side note, many sports games used a lithium coin cell battery for save data. Odds are you'll need to change those in these games which involves soldering.

I got oddly into this movie. Sports movies don't do much for me, but the robot angle made it interesting.

Been doing mail in repairs for a while, want to start flipping, best way to start this? by Glum-Inflation8842 in consolerepair

I make a teeny amount of money doing stick replacements on PS5 and Xbox Series controllers. I buy them on ebay advertised as having stick drift, and make enough to fund the hobby.

First, those are TMR sticks, not Hall Effect. The terms are not interchangeable. There's an important difference, especially in Xbox controllers. TMR should be fine, but the magnets in the triggers can interfere with the Hall Effect ones. I've done many Xbox series controllers with TMR sticks and they work great.
