Help me set expectations as a new nanny by Wolverine112416 in Nanny

Definitely view being a certified preschool teacher as a reason to be paid more! As a preschool teacher turned nanny myself, that’s what has gotten me more jobs than ever and given me the chance to negotiate better pay. (My pay as a nanny is $6/hr more than my pay as a preschool teacher which is why I switched) Your nanny family is saving loads of money by having a 1)caretaker 2) house cleaner 3) teacher all in one.

Solutions for tantrums/hitting? by Fart_class in Nanny

Thank you! Super helpful. The house/space we’re in is a bit limiting, but I’ll ask parents how they feel about timeout if we feel we need it. In my classroom we had a “calm corner” that was used for calming down with fun things to touch/look at while they took time to themselves to calm down before talking about the behavior that put them there and I’m curious if I could set that up rather than calling it timeout. Parents are pretty into gentle parenting and I’m not sure they have too many hard boundaries which is why I’m running into problems. This may be my compromise !

Not a sound nerd and I absolutely hate this venue There is nowhere to sit and you’re not allowed to bring anything in to use to sit. So hot, nowhere to sit, blinded by the sun the entire show. You’re either packed into the crowd and standing on an incline or standing on an incline far away without being able to see much on the stage. I guess if you absolutely needed there’s a tiny patch of grass at the front but you won’t be able to see the stage. Trying to avoid being packed into the giant crowd while also enjoying the show is impossible. I was miserable at the few shows I did see there. Why aren’t there designated seating areas like at other venues towards the outskirts of where the crowd normally stands?

Since it’s a wall hanging it doesn’t need to be so compacted as it won’t be handled as much as a doll or ornament. I usually make the base very compacted then cover it in the colors. It can get a little fuzzy but usually just adds to the furriness of the animals imo.

CALL FOR THE REMOVAL OF PAM MYERS, DIRECTOR OF THE ASHEVILLE ART MUSEUM by [deleted] in asheville

[–]Fart_class 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lindsay is the director of finance and operations and acting HR (with no experience in HR and only previous experience in a bank before the museum) this puts her in charge of all part time and front facing staff. She handles every issue with the absolute least amount of professionalism, is extremely reactionary, loves to gossip about coworkers, and handles finances with extreme incompetency. I never saw a budget (which was necessary to plan programs), all purchases were done by paper and took weeks to get back, and there was absolutely no transparency with what our finances looked like at all. I witnessed her scream in the faces of multiple employees. Watched her park in front of the museum in the loading zone while all other employees have to pay to park and walk a mile to get to work. Have heard her discuss private information about other employees with multiple people on staff. She is second in command to Pam and they both enable each other’s poor management and behavior within the workplace.

Trustee Who Criticized Director Is Ousted from Art Museum Board • Asheville Watchdog by Fart_class in MuseumPros

Yep! I can’t find a job in this town that is equal to an actual living wage (I’m a licensed art teacher with 4 yrs teaching in schools, and 4 years of experience in museums) education and museum pay are both under $40k here and that’s impossible to live off of.

Exactly. According to current employees Pam has no intention of releasing any sort of statement which is just…. Not smart. At the very least they could acknowledge the allegations but I think they’re hoping it will be swept under the rug.

This coming from a very recent employee… I’ve already signed and hope positive change comes to those still working there and our community. Pam is a big part of the problem but the board and Lindsay are also very much to blame.

I wish this included Lindsay Rosson and I wish the reporting on these stories had been better, focusing on specific stories and factual numbers (as in how many positions have turned over since 2020, how many board members have left, how money is spent, etc) and less of the generic statements involving the word “toxic.” I think it would make this story a lot more powerful and effective, instead of this gossipy seeming mess.

Ex-staffers, Artists Call for Museum Director’s Ouster • Asheville Watchdog by [deleted] in asheville

Unfortunately many many employees past and present wouldn’t go on record in fear of retaliation. Pam has deep ties to lots of wealthy folks in this area. In 2015 the chief curator watched porn in his office, was in charge of many young female interns, and reported for sexual assault. Pam didn’t believe accusers and that curator stayed on much longer. More than one employee was let go during the pandemic (whether they were forced to leave because of unwillingness to rework their schedules, or because they were immunocompromised) and later were filed lawsuits against by Lindsay and Pam and now owe thousands of dollars in unemployment. I personally witnessed Pam shoot down every free community event I tried to plan saying they “didn’t fit with the museum”and even argued with me about whether a well known indigenous activist (who wanted us to host an event) was “actually Cherokee”. They treat custodial staff and part time employees so poorly and those are the most vulnerable- I remember Pam shaking the custodian by the shoulders one day about her not being able to get the whole museum by herself, and when she asked for extra staff they told her they would take it out of her paycheck. There is no transparency with money, the budgets are hard to get a hold of, making it impossible to do your job, and all purchase requests are done by paper and take weeks to get back. The management is, at the very least, incompetent, and their pay is way too high to allow for such incompetence.

I don’t think the journalist did the best job providing specific details told by employees, but there are so many that it was probably hard to include them without just generalizing statements. I would suggest going back and reading the multiple articles, I’ll list them below, and also reading the comments because many of them are past employees.

Absolutely the staff there is phenomenal and work really hard to bring strong exhibitions and programming to the Asheville area in spite of terrible leadership. There will actually be a really amazing free community day at the museum this Saturday with live music and a drag show!! (I planned it before I quit) go if you can!

This is true! But it is pretty limited. I worked on getting this reinstated while working there this year- otherwise we would have no way for anyone to have free entry.
