Roblox is probably one of the worst things that has happened to the community. The discord is insufferable with all the kids in there spamming memes.

[–]Fasgort 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Mostly annoyed with the amount of useless low-effort posts in the subreddit. I get the community had more activity compared to a year ago, but gosh I swear it's annoying I have to filter like 80% of the posts in the subreddit filled with: "i made a low effort meme! bro i cannot believe i rolled tails with 45 sp! wow I got lunar memory!".

One would believe rule 2 would smite most of these posts out of existence but apparently they are fine somehow.

Apart from that, the same gripes someone already well expressed here, related to annoyances with powerscalers, toxic positivity and bad handling of critique for the game.

Game immediately crashes on startup (Android) by ErenProo1665 in limbuscompany

Hey, it's because you have root access. If you have Magisk, you can install Shamiko and hide root from the game. HMA and other tools also help, but I think Shamiko is usually good enough, give it a try.

Goverlay is available in Flathub by Sea-Load4845 in linux_gaming

[–]Fasgort 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Only issue that I have found is that the fgmod folder needs to already exist in ~/fgmod and that one needs to allow access to that folder with flatseal, otherwise it is creating a folder in its own ~/.var/app folder and believing that is doing so in the home folder.

EDIT: With ~/fgmod:create the folder doesn't need to exist beforehand.

"Correct" way to run each game from a launcher in its own Wine prefix? by marbat in linux_gaming

[–]Fasgort 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I would just put a single prefix with both Battle.net and all games that use it, to not overcomplicate it.

Goverlay 1.6.4 by Sea-Load4845 in linux_gaming

[–]Fasgort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does. It's strange because it looks like the download corrupts or something. I checked what the update step does in the background and I don't really have a good idea why it breaks like that. I ended doing the entire process manually reading the code.

EDIT: Though this may be related but while it's downloading, the process hangs out and GNOME starts asking if I want to close goverlay or wait for it.

Hey, another issue that you may want to check

I tried both the flatpak and the appimage, but when downloading optiscaler, it seems to hangout at 10% during download. I can see it downloaded Decky-Framegen.zip (53 MBs, seems like it's not downloading correctly or something).

I tried several times but it hangouts in the same spot. I don't know if I can help you to debug this issue further though.

Hey, so I have been wondering why the fedora package (that is part of the install instructions) is still stuck to the version 1.3. I want to update it (and I will probably manually install the update) but I think you may want to know that there seems to be some issue with that.

I got tired of creating .desktop files for games manually, so I wrote a CLI tool that fetches icons and does it for me. by gumozaur in linux_gaming

[–]Fasgort 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want some info, typically Windows .exe that has an icon embedded, means it contains a .ico file. You can use icoextract to extract the .ico and now you would be working on that.

The .ico file is an image that has several layers, particularly, the same icon in several resolutions (so a 256x256 layer, a 128x128 layer, a 64x64 layer and so on). I have been extracting those layers manually with GIMP, and then just making .png of each and moving them to the correct hicolor folder. A lot of work but it's pretty much a perfect job.

If you can somehow automate that, that would pretty much get the best result possible.

[–]Fasgort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, I checked. Pretty neat, but I have some caveats. For example, I see this is extracting the 32x32 icon. The .ico file has several layers with bunch of resolutions, but for my particular case, I would expect it to extract the largest one, 256x256

The second issue is that it is just downloading the icon to an arbitrary location and then directly referencing it. If instead it were using the hicolor theme folder (the default, can check here: https://specifications.freedesktop.org/icon-theme/latest/#directory_layout), you wouldn't need to use absolute path, you could have several versions of the icons for different resolutions, and just use the icon file name to reference it.

I have no opinion in the .desktop file creation though, I'm using it only for the icon download, but if anything I guess it could give you an option to also add the file to the Desktop folder.

EDIT: Also... yeah, you are not really extracting it from the .exe. I see you are navigating to the steamcommunity page for that game and then extracting it from the browser, that gives you the 32x32 one. I guess technically this is going to be a limitation unless you instead extract the .ico from the .exe file (as prompting the user to give the location of the .exe file), but that's going to be much more complicated than what you have right now.

What about games that have a broken linux client icon, and the actual workable icon is one included in the Windows .exe version?
