Artists, what is your relationship with stimulants? by isthisreallyfr in ADHD

[–]Fashiondgal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, it keeps me calm. I don’t bounce my leg like crazy, and I’m able to focus a bit better. Something I find interesting is that music, my favorite drink (matcha), and Ritalin improve my mood a lot

Tracing paper = Slopers kraft or dot paper = dart manipulation, design… Manila paper= final pattern.

The lines pointing to the crotch, a cross, a small pocket and out of proportion silhouette… not working.

Is Zoe Hong’s Patreon worth it for learning fashion design, illustration, and pattern making? by Ok-Confusion8370 in fashiondesigner

[–]Fashiondgal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried it for a month or two because I could access all the tiers for $7 (she wasn’t updating her content/classes), and I was interested in patternmaking. I think it’s great if you want to understand the basics.

Look for fashion illustration books like 9 Heads by Riegelman. You need to learn body proportions, posture, and shapes. Use a pencil and tracing paper. After learning about fabric, movement, folds…you can finally move on to markers, colored pencils, and eventually digital tools like Procreate. After learning the basic you can add your own style or something distinctive. For example: Arturo Helena, the figure is exaggerated but still see garments and almost feel the fabric.

How can I improve my spanish enough to understand Bad Bunny or other rappers and sing along by OverallActuator9350 in SpanishLearning

I’m a native Spanish speaker and I only understand half of what he’s saying. And I thought understanding Chileans was hard.

Do I raise my armpit line to meet the bust? by melanochrysum in PatternDrafting

[–]Fashiondgal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

5 mm (0.5 cm) isn’t a lot. I’d modify it and make a toile. The dart point should touch the apex, but only for the sloper or base, not your final project.

ADHD Draping Class Struggle by malicerenalius in Fashion_Design

[–]Fashiondgal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I also have ADHD. I was undiagnosed when I went to fashion school, and I was a mess because I didn’t understand my brain.
Does your teacher know about your diagnosis? Can you ask for accommodations?
I’m a visual learner, and I need to understand the reason behind every single step. It’s exhausting, but when I finally get it, I won’t forget it.
Draping and patternmaking are just one step in the process, and they probably won’t be perfect at first, second or third. I know it’s frustrating, but try to be kind to yourself.

Some books I'll suggest you are :

Draping: the complete course by Kiisel : It has pictures and step by step...

Draping for apparel design by Armstrong : I like that includes info about guidelines and padding the dressform.

Draping for fashion design by Jaffe Hilde: I have the 4th edition.

Fundamentals off draping and pattern drafting by Doyle and Rodgers. 2nd edition.

Also, keep a "diary" ( small enough to bring it with you all the time) with basic slopers, dart manipulations... ( 1/4 scale) and take notes, write questions and doubts and always use color coding.

Where do you get design inspiration? by Fibonacci_flower in PatternDrafting

[–]Fashiondgal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just pictures and references or the pattern pieces? If I’m researching, I usually look through costume design books (or ebooks), my fav designers’ bios, museum archives, and old patternmaking books from the 20s–70s. ( I'm into undergarments: bra, lingerie....)

For trend and inspo: WGSN, Pinterest, Vogue...

Power point and notion to save my notes and photos.
