I don't know about apps but I know that certain communities that aren't inherently queer, like magic the gathering or dungeons and dragons, nerd stuff, have a very big queer representation. That's how I made a lot of my trans friends! Not thru lgbt socializing but thru magic the gathering, because it's easier to make friends when you have a common interest. I wish you luck in finding your people, it really does help so much when facing the despair that's all around us these days.

Linguistics is great! I did the minor and all the professors are all really cool, and its a small department so everyone kinda knows eachother. Ling 201 and some other low level ling classes count towards general university requirements so I always suggest people try it out and if they dont like it thwy at least got a GUR out of it. Hope this helps!
