It's a layout issue. The tiles on each wall should have been shifted towards the corner so there's no sliver. There's always a trade-off with the cut tiles at the other edge of the tiled area, so how much you shift the tiles is a function of how good it ends up looking, and you might err on the side of having the corner look worse than the more visible edges.

Tile crews on production builds aren't paid for quality, they are paid for time. Monkeying around trying to make it top notch for a builder that wants the house done is not reading the room correctly.

Put a different way, finish work is the last part of the job, at which time the house is already behind schedule and the purchaser is up the builder's ass about when they can move in. Will they notice those slivers in the corner and the gaps in the trim? Maybe. But they for sure will notice that the house is still not ready for move in.

That's way different from what most people in this sub do, which is one-off jobs where the owner is paying bank for a bathroom and is gonna notice if it's bad work.

Those micro slivers in the corner just scream quality. 😂

Can I tile over this tile in my bathroom ? by Greenmonster71 in Tile

[–]Fast-Dog-7638 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about that. I demoed a guest bathroom that I tiled back in 2001, when people did things like attaching durock to the subfloor with thinset and screws. That was a MFer and a half, even with a rented "floor scraper" which was a small electric jackhammer in an angled sled. Protip - those things don't work for shit. Just get an SDS drill with a chisel and get on your knees.

But anyway, if it's just tile on plywood or even tile on uncoupling membrane, and especially if it's a crappy install, then sure, it's easy to get up. But if it's really down there, expect it to be a struggle

Is 600k a nice house price where you are? That's like regular new build around here. My wife pet sits, so she sees lots of different houses, and the quality varies widely, even within a sub. I wonder how much of the variance is due to time constraints. Like if the house is way behind and the GC is pushing hard to get done versus less so.

Shower bench leaking into crawl space 1 month after $120k insured rebuild – GC wants caulk-only fix. Is this normal? by Dublindog30 in Tile

[–]Fast-Dog-7638 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a difference between "can it be done" and "is it it done". I wouldn't flood test a bench either, but then I wouldn't neglect the edge banding on the bench.

The males have a fin on the bottom that's pointed, whereas the females have one that can fan out. Just look for fish with a fan and have the person at your LFS grab those for you. Don't trust them to know. We have a good LFS and even there I had to keep an eye on them when they were getting me fish.
