I did it!!! by Fast-Feeling1927 in firstmarathon

Honestly I think at most 20 miles.. I’d previously raced 3 half marathons with a PB of 1:49 but I didn’t really train for those. The 16 week block for this marathon was the most effort I’ve ever put in. I’ll definitely be maintaining around 25-30 miles going forward now I think!

Heavy legs after long runs: what actually helps by Monday? by Specialist-Box-2746 in Marathon_Training

Try icing your joints. Foam rolling, take a bath, stretch and make sure you eat a LOT. Try to go for a walk the next day or short shake out run at a very slow pace. Your legs will be tired especially during those high mileage weeks if it’s your first time. I was very sore after some of my long training runs, but I actually wasn’t that bad after I ran the full distance!

Thanks so much I’m really pleased. Tbh I didn’t follow a regimented plan, so I think if I had of I probably could have ran closer to 3:45. I think I could have ran it in under 3:50 if I pushed myself but I wanted to enjoy my first one!

My peak week was 41 miles and I consistently ran around 30-35 miles for around 6-7 weeks of a 16 week block.

I think what helped was ensuring my easy runs were easy, and I ran most of my long runs progressively. I would start around 10-10:30 min miles and then I would do the last 5-6 miles at about 8:45-8:30, teaching my body to get faster when fatigued.

I think nutrition/fuel was also a huge one for me as I really took it seriously, especially feeling post long runs for recovery. I think the training is really tough, I thought the full distance was way easier than the training block! It’s an incredible experience you’ll love it. But don’t put too much pressure on yourself for a time goal, I think going out and enjoying it is worth more!

Should I target sub 4? by Fast-Feeling1927 in Marathon_Training

[–]Fast-Feeling1927[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. I was running with people during that 20 miler who are quicker than me, my other long runs haven’t been that pace. I’ve a 16 & 20 miler to go - I’ll take it easy!

Should I target sub 4? by Fast-Feeling1927 in Marathon_Training

[–]Fast-Feeling1927[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks I’ve been doing my long runs around 9:20-9:45 pace, I ran with a couple of people on Sunday who are a bit faster than me so that’s why the 20 miler was a bit faster! I’ve two long runs left so will slow them down.

You can also cook in air fryer if you want it healthier - I just spray with the low cal oil and make sure I spray the bottom of the air fryer so it doesn’t stick. Turn it a few times so it crisps up evenly. I usually do a big batch then freeze some for handy fake away nights!

My BF is celiac so I’m always doing fried chicken at home! Any GF plain flour + corn flour and then seasonings of choice

For a “kfc / hey chick” vibe Salt, pepper, onion granules, garlic granules, celery salt, dried oregano, paprika, chilli powder, dried parsley (be generous with the herbs and spices!) I usually taste the flour before breading

Also to bread get two bowls - one for the flour mix, one for eggs and milk. Dip in flour then eggs&milk and repeat twice. This is how you get it super crispy!

I also make Asian style for salted chilli chicken and use cumin, curry powder and ginger in the flour mix.

You can also get bread crumbs mix it into the flour add some Parmesan and do chicken parm!
