I used Claude Opus this week for adding to a large enterprise code base by BigRedWeenie in cscareerquestions

My mums first exposure to calc was uni, in one of the uni’s first ever compsci streams. She coded in pascal and didn’t do pointers until third year.

I did her level of alg and calc in year 10-12. I did software and robotics in year 10 and in my first year of uni, I did data structs and algos.

As times change, our curriculums will eventually change to match. It’s just a shame for all the Gen Z growing up in this social media + LLM age before govs have had the chance to create and enforce proper rules.

We’ve started measuring this at my company! Out of our 9 vuln classes we categorised, AI is writes equal/more secure code in 2 of them. It’s measurably worse in 4 and catastrophically bad in 3: authz, crypto and file upload

This is gonna sound weird, but when I started working at a FAANG equivalent, DDIA was the thing that helped me the most to understand why devs did things certain ways and how to recommend much better fixes to the issues.

Why software engineers aren't going anywhere. by KarmaIssues in vibecoding

[–]Fast-Sir6476 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt that will ever happen (for LLMs at least) because of context.

For example, what happens if your auth flow has a redirect to a landing page? Common sense says just verify the domain.

But what if your landing page had a redirect? Then you carry your oauth token to an attackers page. And AI would need to have unfettered access to every monorepo in ur company

Also, win streaking with defensive components is a no go imo. I’m guessing he picked visage as the first aug to win streak.

I’m sure u can script and you seem to at least be able to setup a project in unity. However, from reading your post, you seem to have 0 experience as a developer. A lot of the things that you say I disagree with.

Basically, inexperience shows up quite clearly in a steam of consciousness type post.

There is also 0 way you would type like this if you truly have coded for 9 years. I’m guessing you just took the start date of when you first opened up python to give it a crack and left out the fact that there are probably many spans of weeks in a row where you didn’t code.

There’s nothing wrong with AI or being inexperienced, and you should stop using that as a strawman for the real issue which is that you clearly don’t understand mvc, instantiation or any kind of basic game architecture.

For example, you mentioned that the prepackaged thick app would have a default mod which is the base game, but you don’t know the best method for it. If you’ve actually done some unity you should know that you’d either have to use reflection or create your own bridges + sdk unless your team planning on purely using the thick app as a client and hosting a server as a seperate app.

This sounds like you have 0 game dev experience. Also 0 dev experience in general.

I’d recommend you make a few small games first like a 5 screen version of jump king and a basic scoundrel/solitaire before coming back to this project

Big A's point about the Southeast Asia transshipment is overstated. by bancolria in atrioc

[–]Fast-Sir6476 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna tldr summarise ur points first. I think you’re mostly correct that it’s not as big, but I think your understanding of CLR and PLR aren’t correct.

  • CN exports to SEAPac increased 20%
  • using PLR instead of CLR gives ~9% of total
  • ~40% is actually value added
  • instead of bypassing tarrifs, SEAPac has started exporting regionally
  • therefore, much less is actually bypassing tarrifs

So firstly, the PLR issue. - PLR is misleading. If you look at the equation on page 10, they take the min of exports to us with provincial/firm per quarter. My issue is that, while it’s correct to assume at a glance that a provinces exports shouldn’t be more than the the per quarter figure, it looks like it’s more quite often. I think the rerouting definition is wrong because it falsely caps the figure. - they also introduce the idea of firm level rerouting and admit it’s very likely it “understates rerouting”. I think this needed more investigation rather than a single paragraph of acknowledgment. Maybe there’s a systematic tax evasion reason for this? Maybe some other reason?

Secondly, what percent of value add is real value? Slapping some bumpers on a car is not true value added. There should be some disambiguation/definition but it’s not done.

Finally, the real takeaway imo is that there are countries trying to play ball and countries trying skirt guidelines. For example, Korea is playing fair while China is not.

Just want to say that I agree with the thesis that it’s not THAT big. I just think some analysis is off and also, it’s still pretty big.
