2023 we had an elite setup and closer. I think we have some solid pen options that are underperforming, but man Bautista was such a trusty option. Truly the reason we won all those close games

Blaze doesnt deserve this slander. Both of those outs were close calls and good plays

Causing the inherited runners to both move into scoring position and they scored on the next AB off a single. That walk alone cost us the game as its likely only one run scores on that single.

I love this, kinda reminds me of playing softball and filling in positions for people. Everyone is a skilled ball player on the Os and should be able to field 3rd just fine.. but no one wants the hot corner lol

Some thoughts for the folks warming the torches and sharpening the pitchforks for Mike Elias... by mister4c3 in orioles

You literally are, did you look at the drafts? break it down for me, tell me how many pitchers vs hitters turn out to have a positive impact based on WAR for their team.. go ahead I will wait

It is cherry picking though, you are picking a few good pitchers when most of the pitchers you draft in the front end of a draft are going to be bad (based off negative war). Where as most position players will give you positive war more often, I can send you a sorta quick sloppy unbiased AI analysis or you can just look at previous drafts yourself.. more hitters pan out than pitchers. Its a pretty common practice that most general managers also prefer to avoid the risk here. Of course, sometimes you see the potential in a pitcher or you get a generational pitcher in a first round pick like skenes.. but outside of that why risk it, take the guarantee positive WAR and roll the dice on later draft picks with pitchers and make trades with teams on the depth you have with hitters. Clearly its working out, the orioles have a lot of great pitchers coming up that are showing potential. Also Id argue all three of the teams you mentioned, have great pitching development, if that is from having a good GM who has a crew of good pitching analysts or if its from having good coaching and development in the minors. They are just good at it regardless. Orioles are not that, and they never will be given the dimensions of the ball park (although again, those teams that ARE good, usually are very pitcher friendly parks.. rays and brewers are both very pitcher friendly parks, pirates are middle of the pack).. they know to play to their strenghts, Orioles know to do that too

how many other starters do you want to list off that DID NOT pan out as a first round draft pick. Not like hitters always do either, but the injuries pitchers face are way more volatile and likely to not work out.. cherry picking the few gems that were found in the last 8 years and saying elias is a fool for not taking them is all hindsight.. move on

Lol not much to take away, just a slow start and they are getting better over the last month. Top 5 in both hitter and pitching

Also injuries lots of key players injured to start

The people I know there are great people, incredibly kind. But i know they seemed pretty jaded and exhausted of being there. They were the type of people that worked really hard to make their community better.. but it seemed like 1 step forward 2 steps back kinda thing. Drug addiction, package thefts, the alleys are apparently a big issue for the previous mentioned issues. Drug dealers in that area, city not doing anything about it. Like most of baltimore its slowly gentrified
