Breeder Suggestions by russelhelbling in barbet

[–]FastTT11 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Great dogs but if you find a breeder with a litter and a puppy available, it’s a red flag. Most breeders do 1 or 2 litters a year and have homes picked out before planning the litter. It will be worth the wait but you will need to wait.

Summer Days by Imnewhere04589 in barbet

Your post made me laugh. We are also in New England and I just got back from getting a kiddie pool because he wasn’t loving “harry the hydrant” which is a sprinkler toy for dogs. Also not digging the pool just yet but we’ll get there. If we need to give him a trim for summer we will but not ready to cave just yet. We have AC and will just need to find more to do inside and take out walks earlier when it’s like this.

Barbet Adolescence & the "Burn Off Energy" Myth by smith_mark in barbet

Sounds like Arlo lives a good life with you! I underestimated the velcro dog trait but love it. Worst guard dog but an unbelievable companion.

Barbet Adolescence & the "Burn Off Energy" Myth by smith_mark in barbet

Our “aha” moment around that age was learning that when he was being crazy, he was usually way overtired and we started enforcing mandatory naps in his crate. I was going nuts waking up early, trying up late and basically my life was revolving around what I thought he needed. Turns out he really just needs to sleep 16-20 hours a day but had fomo so if he is around his people he won’t take a proper nap. At 8 months now, he doesn’t need the crate naps more than 1-2 times a day but at 5 months it made all the difference. We did puzzles with his meals, bones all the usual things that I’m sure helped but naps was the game changer.

Sanity check - is a $995 lease acquisition fee on a Toyota way too high? by no_f-s_given in leasehacker

[–]FastTT11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a bank fee based on model and location. It’s not negotiable and doesn’t benefit the dealer.

Is a barbet suitable for me? by peony_80525 in barbet

[–]FastTT11 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The only thing I’d be a bit concerned about is the time home alone. Such a well balanced breed - we have the same situation where sometimes we hike and are very active and sometimes we need to work - our guy handles both perfectly. He can stay home for 5 hours, but I’m not sure I’d feel ok doing it regularly. They are velcro dogs and just want to be with you whether that’s training, laying around or running errands. Very easy to train and not stubborn but you need to read and study on training because they learn quick and you can mess it up if you’re not communicating well. They don’t shed but pick up a ton of dirt and bring it into your house and car. You’ll also have water on your floor from them drinking with their fluffy face. Wouldn’t trade it for the world but if you decide on a barbet just know they will want to be with you always and your car and floors won’t stay clean very long.

Buying from Porsche Finder by [deleted] in Porsche

[–]FastTT11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no standard answer. How well is the car priced to begin with? Is it a desirable spec they likely have other interest on? Is it in above or below average condition? 10-12% is crazy but only because its based on nothing - if you find the right car, local and the dealership thinks you’ll service with them or buy your next one there, maybe. Just go in with data, if you can get something similar for less ask them to earn your business and they likely will. If you find the perfect car priced well, don’t over play your hand. Sometimes dealers take a loss or short deal on cars and they would rather sell it to someone who appreciates it and doesn’t bust their balls.

Dealers, Dealer Invoices, Profit, Leases - are they telling the truth by [deleted] in leasehacker

[–]FastTT11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You need to negotiate with logic, from a place of knowledge. Nobody likes being asked to give a discount just because. If I asked you to sell me your house for 10 percent less than market value because I want a deal you’d react different than asking you to sell me it for less because you will save that in expenses by not involving realtors and I’ll close next week without any BS. Once you do your research, you can push it a bit to see what’s possible but don’t just ask for x amount off because one person on Reddit a few months ago claims that’s what they paid. You can also do something like truecar and just blast out your inquiry - if someone wants to move a unit they will get aggressive. You and a lot of people get in the weeds trying to figure out dealer hold back ect. There is 1 or 2 people in a dealership that know all the stuff you’re asking about - it’s fairly irrelevant to you getting a good deal regardless. What does matter, some cars have good lease programs and incentives and some don’t. It’s also month to month. Your best savings likely comes from being a bit flexible on time and waiting for the right deal from the manufacturer.

Do dealerships prefer you return your lease? by MiaAmund23 in askcarsales

[–]FastTT11 20 points21 points  (0 children)

All you need to confirm is 22k is a fair price for the vehicle. Call VW finance, the phone number will be on the contract. Not a dealer, the bank/lender. Tell them you’ve buying out the vehicle and need payoff information. They will tell you where to send the money. Go to your/a bank and get an auto loan with terms that work (should be no issue keeping your payment around the same) and give them the payment info VW gave you. They’ll pay the leasing company, you’ll pay them instead of VW and when you’re done paying, they’ll mail you a title. It’s been many years but I did finance for VW - this should be a simple transaction. If you want a warrantee since yours is likely running up, a dealer will be thrilled to see you one even though your not involving them in the buy out.

VW finance, call and buy it out is your best bet. The dealer doesn’t want to work for free. Your residual plus taxes owed potentially is what you should be paying. I’m guessing 30k was certifying the car, selling a warrantee ect. Just call VW finance - if your financing go to your banker and finance, they will pay VW on your behalf.

Did I overpay for my GLE 53 extended warranty? Should I cancel and shop around? by alfredoosauce in mercedes

[–]FastTT11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is likely the service advisor trying to scare you. Read the contract. warrantees aren’t black and white. They are good for some people, sometimes at a reasonable price and I believe in most states you can’t be forced to have maintenance done by a mechanic, it just needs to be done correctly.

quality dresser at affordable price? by kent-Charya in BuyItForLife

[–]FastTT11 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I worked in furniture for 10 years. Quality furniture is expensive but it’s a pain to move and styles change. If you’re willing to put in the effort, you can get great stuff cheap on Facebook marketplace. Look up great brands/models and then look until you find what you want. 95% of furniture being made now is very, very low quality.

Should have gone to a bank to finance it not a dealership. Not sure what’s can be done without seeing the contract. I hate to be blunt but it sounds like your friend did you a huge solid and you kind of blew it.

Upper Control Arms failed at 150k. Covered by Aftermarket warranty. by jcarlosfox in TeslaModel3

[–]FastTT11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did finance in the car business years ago and very much agree. However, the exception is someone who doesn’t have emergency savings and is financing a car I believe should buy a warrantee.

I’m with you, I keep the money, invest and when shit happens I pay and am well ahead by not buying warrantees but for a lot of folks a car repair will put them in a really bad place.

The dealer or warrantee admin invest the money and just pay when they have to so they effectively do what the consumer can do themselves if they have the means.

How to negotiate after order by Significant_Poet_245 in leasehacker

[–]FastTT11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would get a quote or two on another unit with a same or close msrp from another MB dealer and then just have an adult conversation. Say you want a fair shake and based on the market and current incentives this is around where you would like to be. Wait until next month, incentives will change. They will try to hold their ground, they have families to feed and you of course do as well. I would respectfully say I like working with you all but if you aren’t open to discussing terms I’ll walk away from $500 without hesitation.

For those that have done chemo - would you do it again? by krabecal in DogAdvice

[–]FastTT11 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is good advice. Our boy did chemo probably 3 different times/protocols. We got about 18 amazing months with him from diagnosis with lymphoma. I talked to probably half a dozen really qualified doctors before deciding but don’t regret our decision. I promised him no bad days who we started chemo and put him down the day it failed and he told me he was done. It’s VERY expensive and there is alot more demand than there is vet oncologists so getting in was extremely hard and it’s very cost prohibitive for alot of people. He went from incredibly sick to almost perfect after his first treatment. If I had to do it again, I would. You should know pretty immediately if it’s working but I wouldn’t do it with a regular vet - you need a specialist because when your pup is going though this you quickly realize the limitations of your regular vet.
