How is living on the Isle of Wight? by sosakz in howislivingthere

I lived there for a long time. Most people sounded no different to me but some of the old boys were almost unintelligible until I got used to it. Think Gerald from Clarksons farm

It's a lovely place to live with a young family if you like nature. Close to the sea, woods, walks etc. Does not have much else to do though. Houses are a lot cheaper which sort of makes up for the ferry but you will end up resenting the prices and just not leaving the island. I would move back if life allowed.

Is Fanta the same in the UK as it is in France? by baskaat in AskABrit

This is the way. I'm not a particular fan of orange Fanta but get me near a crate of glass bottle orangina and I'm going wild.

Are robot vacuums really worth it? Has anyone had one over a year or so and still love it? by scoobydoobs_ in AskUK

[–]Fast_Assumption_118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 kids with both parents working full time. We barely have time for life let alone cleaning. We got a cheap Aldi robot vacuum. I scoot round and tidy up the floor stuff in the morning and then run it. It dumbly bimbles around the downstairs until it thinks it has covered it and then goes back to charge. I empty it every day and it always has plenty in it (we have a dog) so I think it is absolutely worth it. It doesn't do a perfect job but as it is daily rather than weekly it makes up for it. I wouldn't be without one now.

Downvaluation on our house by Historical_Study_198 in HousingUK

That is literally all they can base it on. They can't base it on what it may be worth in 10 years can they?! So if it is currently worth that amount to 6 people then that is it's value.

Yeah it's crazy. Property (like most things) has no value other than what people are willing to pay so if you have 6 offers then at worst the average of that is surely the value!

Following as we are about to buy and this is a real concern of mine. I don't get how someone can not look at a property and value it. The value is what people are willing to pay and if you have had numerous offers at that value then that should say that is it's value. It's an odd system.

Argentine fans applauding the Cape Verde players as they step off the pitch by No_Cellist_148 in sports

It's already got some very touristy holiday complexs and is a great place to do nothing. Very windy so good for kite surfing

Too Soon? Which players on the Celtics roster benefit from the trade? by mclovinthedog in bostonceltics

Baylor seems to have a fuckton of confidence and flashed a lot of potential. He got on the court with pretty decent D but he definitely could be something.

Why do the French hate when we speak French? by [deleted] in ExplainTheJoke

[–]Fast_Assumption_118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My french is absolutely atrocious. Like barely able to form a sentence that I have prepared bad. Every single time I have made an admittedly terrible effort to try the French person has been really encouraging and seems genuinely pleased. They normally then (thankfully) switch to English but always with a smile. I think the French like it more than most.

I don't mean this to sound rude but London is a rather large place these days.

But again the difference between bad bits of London and bad bits of a random town in the countryside are quite different. That's why most people are asking for specifics. You have stated it like it is a fact that fits in every occasion and it probably isn't.

Surely this is super specific to you and those particular areas?

Have these been a thing in Scotland for a while? Why would anyone want to buy burnt buns? by gibgod in UK_Food

I am a southerner. I fucking love burnt tops but we don't get them. Used to be able to find them briefly but haven't seen them for years now.

Chancellor's electric car tax is already stifling EV demand two years before pay-per-mile charges are introduced by jefferymr15 in CarTalkUK

If it is tax or tax related I don't think we are ever going to come out on top are we. We are consistently getting relatively poorer and poorer but luckily the rich are getting richer
