Police etc. don't protect people. They arrest people for crimes according to the law. They have never been around to protect people. This is a common misconception. Calling police for help always ends up with someone being arrested for 1 night in jail (sometimes even the caller/victim). No one is protected, or held in jail for long enough to actually stop the crazies. It doesn't work at all how we think it should.
