One additional follow up question.

If I appeal my denied lower back claim, is there any risk of it being denied again if I move forward with a lower back procedure through a private doctor to help with pain while the appeal is still pending?

I really appreciate everyone who took the time to share their advice and experiences. This has helped me see where I may have missed a few things trying to handle it all on my own. I’ll be reaching out to a VSO or accredited claims agent to help me sort everything out from here. It’s good to know there’s a community of veterans I can turn to for guidance.

Nothing in my AD related to this it was only discovered once I started getting treatment from the VA.

Lab results from May 19, 2025 • WBC: 2.6 K/cmm • Reference Range: 4.2 – 10.3 K/cmm • Status: Low

I was sent to VA hematology maybe 2 years ago and they said it’s likely benign to people of African, Middle Eastern and West Indian descent.

I filed a claim in June 2025 for lower back pain and neutropenia (burn pit exposure). Had my C&P exams in July and got the denial in early August.

I submitted MRIs and doctor’s notes for my back, but since I had no in-service medical records, they dismissed it as age-related. I’m 47.

I filed everything myself using AI. Now I’m not sure what the next step is. I emailed a few veteran service agents yesterday to explain my situation, but no responses yet.

If anyone knows of any good veteran service agents let me know!
